Title: S L O W Terastation Live
Post by: MDallmann on January 24, 2009, 04:55:20 PM

I have had a Terastation for awhile now:

TeraStation Description - TeraStation

Model Name - HS-DHTGL/R5

Firmware Version - 2.14

and have always been frustrated by how slow it is, but lately it is becoming a problem.  I use it mostly for backing up important data directories/files and storing pictures.  Lately I have been trying to use a picture database to try and organize the files and am having a hard time getting anything done because of its slowness and XP timing out with disk errors.  Even loading thumbnails in Explorer takes can 5 seconds each.  Copying a picture can take minutes and playing a simple video recorded from my camera is impossible without first copying locally. I have the Terastation & my Dell Xeon 3.2G Workstation connected via a 1G network.  Things should be this slow.

Any ideas?

Slowness on the network path to the device can indicate a problem with the controller on the terastation. If the device has been getting worse, is the firmware up to date on the device?
