Hey Guys,
after a lot of Problems with my Router with:
- Wireless drops
- Speed of Intel 6000 Seria drops to 130Mbits
- crash of the wireless
- etc.
I found finally a Version which I would share with you. Its DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/10/11) std - build 17461, which is based on ath9k Driver for wireless. I have it now since some days installed and didn't have to reboot the router even 1 time ! Wireless is stable and get a good performance like the User friendly Firmware.
I can confirm:
- 3G Modem is working, even the reconnect with DHCP works
- Wireless works for Intel 6000 Series without a drop to 130Mbits -> full N-Speed
- no crashes from wireless anymore
- Wireless Mixed N/G working perfect
- Guest Network working
- Mac filter working
So the standard I tested and no issues, even my HP printer is working now on wireless without issue (the first time)
The removed this build but if you want to dry you can download it here: ?http://runwire.com/ddwrt-17461/
?Source: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=142862&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90?
Its working beter and more stable then the Buffalo brandes Aplpha version. And it has finally the ath9k driver :-) Hope Buffalo will build on this build !!!
PS. Transfer with filezilla (ftp) over WLAN get 17.5 MB/sec :-)
Have fun and good luck !
There are 2 files at that link. Which one?
There are 2 different:
and wzr-hp-g300nh?2
Install first a different Version f.e. the Buffalo DD-WRT and later run the Upgrade from the DD-WRT Page. Administratiron -> Firware Upgrade !
Do you have the option to block a specific MAC address in ddwrt? Because in the standard firmware there is no way to do it.
And I am not sure if my 3G modem is compatible with the ddwrt, could you please advise? And can I revert back to the standard firmware in case it did not work? And how to revert back?
You can revert to the User friendly wirmware like its written in WIKI
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Buffalo_WZR-HP-G300NH#DD-WRT_on_Buffalo_WZR-HP-G300NH? there is a file to revert back tu user firendly firmware.
Not sure if you can block Mac but you can allow them. So only the listed Mac adresse can connect to the Wireless. For sure you can also Block specific Mac, but you have to google it. Its just a linux :-)
You 3G Modem I dont know which you have. But normaly they are working fine Huawei (I have 3 of them). The software for it is in the build included.
I will give it a try and see.
My 3G modem is listed in my sig.
I never heard this modem. You have to try if it will work. Maybe it will work...
OMG, I don't know what happened. After I flashed the router with the official Buffalo's ddwrt firmware
http://www.buffalotech.com/support/getfile/wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-alpha-16783_us_eu_ap.zip
I can not log in into the router page, I am getting an exclamation mark on the connection icon and the Wireless led on the router is keeping blinking without getting connection. I tried with cable the same thing. What went wrong? Please help.
I tried also resetting the router from the bottom but with no hope.
Mhh good question. Do you see any wireless networks ? It should be called I guess the Mac of you Router. Anyway you have to take the key from the Router (should be somewhere on the side). When you connect with cable you get an IP ? Clear the cache from your browser or take another f.e. IE ...Not sure which IP it was but it should be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.11.1?....
I am connected to the router wirelessly and entered the key successfully. But I can not access http://192.168.11.1 or even http://192.168.1.1 the wireless LED on the router is blinking continuously.
The LED is blinking by me as well. Try to add the IP 192.168.11.3 subnet 255.255.255.0 and dns and gateway to 192.168.11.1 (your client) and try to open again. And you are sure you took the correct firmware ? Otherwise you have to tftp the User friendly again....
And use a different browser....
No Problem.. Hope for you it will work that you can enjoy this version... But I guess when its supported with the Buffalo Firmware it should also work with the DD-WRT :-)
It seems that ddwrt is not supproting my 3G modem, I reverted back to the standard firmware and I will wait for ddwrt to support the modem or I have to change the modem to a compatible one. I have to go for ddwrt firmware because the feature I am looking for (blocking specific MAC address) is available in ddwrt. Anyhow, many thanks.
Anyone have luck with samba share? Disk mount's ok (ext3) but share won't show up in windows7 clients.
Hey,
I have just a small fat32 there and enabled the Samba and ftp (NAS Page under Servises) and its working fine for me. Did you enter the path and user for it ?
Can i use this directly from the buffallo dd-wrt firmware or do i have to install another "special" Version before?
Can i switch back to the Buffalo dd-wrt directly or do i have to use a "special" revert-image?
Is there somewhere an official download source of this build?
I had the latest alpha installed from Bufallo. Than I used the file to upgrade and it worked. Just has to be DD-WRT installed.
First install the Alpha version from Buffalo website, then upgrade it to version 17461 if you wish.
To revert back to Buffalo standard firmware visit the pages below:
http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Wireless/Buffalo-WZR-HP-G300NH-Factory-Firmware-Revert/td-p/29717
http://g300nh.blogspot.com/2010/06/flash-between-dd-wrt-and-official.html
I noticed this FW build in the dd-wrt forum this morning and installed it. It has been running well, so I headed over here and it appears that you have already posted on this fw. I am running wzr-hp-g300nh2.
The Loopback is still not functioning, so if you require it add this script to your firewall script in adminstration tab in commands.
insmod ipt_mark
insmod xt_mark
iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -i ! `get_wanface` -d `nvram get wan_ipaddr` -j MARK --set-mark 0xd001
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -m mark --mark 0xd001 -j MASQUERADE
Other than that, it looks like this fw was bricking a certain router due to its flash size being larger than the router flash. This should not be an issue with the Buffalo router, it has a large flash ram.
DDNS appears to be working again.
I currently reverted to the v34-sp2 build 14998 (professional) and don't see Samba Server under NAS settings.
The build you mentioned does not exist on Buffalo's firmware upgrade page for the router anymore.
Was setting the samba server up as easy as flashing with the build 17461 and then enabling the samba server?
Where can I actually find this firmware build as the only newer one posted is an alpha version.
Many thanks.
That's what I did. Couldn't downgrade the firmware so flashed with friendly firmware first and then put back 14998.
17798-alpha is the latest firmware available from buffalo, i just checked it now on thier website and its still there. if you cant find it then i guess you shoudl just give up on this since your going to have non stop problems due to your lack of knowledge.
Thank you so much for this thread + DD-WRT image!
It is most definitely the best one available that I've came across so far - and I've tried quite a lot of the (DD-WRT, Buffalo's user friendly & DD-WRT) image.
The DD-WRT images by Buffalo and the ones found on the WZR HP G300NH DD-WRT wiki page are all prone to give wireless disconnection issues, since they don't use the atheros 9k WiFi driver (like found in this image).
This DD-WRT image is just so much easier to configure than the silly "user friendly" one from Buffalo + I got slightly better throughput with it too.
Unfortunately for me, it seems like my Intel 4965AGN WiFi card that I have in my Dell 9400 is limited to only 130Mbps connectivity. The fastest that I got so far was an average upload speed of 80Mbps via my WZR HP G300NH v1 to my HP Proliant Microserver via SAMBA shares.
I'm definitely going to recommend this image & thread to my friends.
Did someone tried Open VPN client with this version and confirm that it works?
That's good! Try to flash it!
I'm currently running FW DD-WRT 17798, which is the latest alpha Buffalo build.
Can anyone recommend moving to a non Buffalo DD-WRT firmware? For instance r18777?
ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/03-19-12-r18777/buffalo_wzr-hp-g300nh/
Well I've installed r18777 and all appears to be working OK. Signal strength to my network enabled radio in the kitchen is stronger and my laptop is showing 300Mbps mode and channel extension in inSSIDer.
Copying a ~3Gb file from my desktop (wired to router) to my laptop (wireless to router) via simple copy and paste yields 8.7 megabytes a second in the Windows 7 dialogue box. Does this sound OK?
with user friendly firmware in 40mhz mode i get 14.2 megabytes per second copying from my server to my wifi laptop that uses tp-link atheros based wifi card.
Hello what successfully moved from buffalo branded ddwrt to brainslayer ddwrt? Now i use buffalo ddwrt 16783 build. But i remember formerly i try old brainslayer ddwr build on this router. And router stopped working after flashing from buffalo ddwrt to brainslayer ddwrt.I try tftp but did not help.Tftp not found router.Only warranty service change router to new.But now warranty service is expired.I now fear to take risks. Can not happen now again?
Hello all i successfully installed brainslayer ddwrt latest build. But i have problems sometimes lost connectivity.I set client mode on this router firmware.Need help.Tx power give only 17dbm.I set 30dbm but give only 17dbm.
where did you get your router from? as in which country?
I am from Lihuania. And from Lithuania buy router.
Lithuania is a country in the european union. hence routers sold in Lithuania have to abide by the EIRP limits.
the EIRP limits for 2.4ghz routers is set to max 20dbm.
so your max power of 17dbm + the 3dbi antenna gain should give you the 20dbm total effective irradiated power.
so no issues for you since 17dbm will be the max your allowed and the router is restricted to it.
The thread opener that suggested this dd-wrt firmware build:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/10/11) std - build 17461
is not stable at all.
I flashed both 17461 and 17201 and found 17201 to be more stable.
The network connections is more consistent even by 1 router hop. (via wireless).
This is my 5 cents.
ZenLight:
I recently flashed DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/10/11) std - build 17461 on mine and I haven't had any issues yet.
Previously (with the prioprietary DD-WRT from Buffalo) my WiFi would drop every few hours and stay offline until I reboot the router.
Now with the build that the original poster suggested, I'm getting better speeds and it is 100% stable so far (for the past 5 weeks).
Hi, I got a problem , i got a router g300nh but i wrongly flash g300nh2, now it cant startup and it keep reboot and reboot.
what i can do now? any resolution for this? thanks.
you can probably still tftp to the router its original firmware. follow the unbricking guide on dd-wrt forum.
I wouldn't follow the guide on the dd-wrt forum, there are to many different ones by different users to count, follow the guide in the dd-wrt wiki that i wrote, it has a high success rate of recovery when used step by step.
Running BrainSlayer r19519 as per today.
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/07-20-12-r19519/buffalo_wzr-hp-g300nh/
What is the wifi strength like using r19519? Any improvement?
phoned buffalo support asking about dd-wrt firmware updates on the v1 version of this router. they informed me that the v1 is end of line and no longer supported.
looks like i wont be getting any more buffalo devices again. shoddy support and they end of line the hardware before they even got it working properly.
I use the latest DD WRT releases here:
ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/
Everything seems to work OK on my WZR-HP-G300NH.
Hello again Everyone,
I'am now using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/20/12) std - build 19519, for my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH here is the link: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F2012%2F07-20-12-r19519%2Fbuffalo_wzr-hp-g300nh/
I will continue to use BrainSlayer DD-WRT firmware over Buffalo Firmware.
Take Care
Let me know how or if this firmware works for you?

Thank you davo for the simple breakdown of the update. I'll get my translator and work it out :)
When will it hit all regions,,,,,,?
v24SP2-MULTI (07/15/12) std - build 19484
Anyone using this?
Any chance the tx power can be increased?
Thanks.
Just flashed 19484 for the wzr-hp-g300nh this morning - about 2 hrs ago, and from what i see, txpower adjusting does nothing to increase or decrease the txpower - it always stays @ TX Power 24.0 dBm (EIRP av.) / 29.3 dBm (Peak) in the status - no matter what you change to it, which according to inSSIDer isn't correct values, its not transmitting at 24 average or 29dBm. Not that the signal is bad or anything, but when you change the txpower value to something reasonable (17 thru 21dBm is reasonable for a consumer router), it should adjust accordingly.
Couple of other issues i am seeing as well, WPS is still included in these firmware releases (its not in community dd-wrt builds), WPS is insecure and very hackable, and simply turning it off in the firmware doesn't stop the hack according to some websites i have read on this subject.
Also, using a client mode + vap setup (Atheros repeater) the virtual interface is still reporting incorrect channel values within the webgui. The dmesg log still ends with the following errors:
<6>[ 1170.080000] br0: port 3(ath0.1) entered forwarding state
<6>[ 1170.080000] br0: port 3(ath0.1) entered forwarding state
<6>[ 1170.720000] br0: port 3(ath0.1) entered disabled state
Then ath0 tries to associate with the host AP, this is where the channel value for the VAP gets buggered, upon ath0's association with the host AP, it looses what channel it should be reporting for the virtual interface.
Atleast this build has a functional VAP, with the community 19519 dd-wrt build, any VAP setups appear to be non-functional, and this seem to be affecting not only client mode + vap configs, but WDS configs as well. This is affecting multiple Atheros units (tested on G300NH and AG300H) - if not all atheros units using dd-wrt. Bug ticket has already been filed to the community dd-wrt trac svn, but it would appear this is a low priority matter - and according to one of the devs, most likely will not get fixed this year. Time to roll back to 18024, atleast for me, most everything in it works minus the vap reporting incorrect channel values within the webgui. meh!
for WPS to be successfully hacked someone needs to physically press the WPS button on the router to make the association.
so if your saying its been hacked then the method used is: someone breaks into your house and presses the button to do the pairing.
not a very sophisticated hack if u ask me.
also i was told by tech support that development and support for the v1 router had been end of lined.
Like most times slybunda, you haven't a clue what you are talking about... good thing nobody asked you, they wouldn't be getting correct info. As i stated, WPS can be hacked even if it is turned off within the firmware, meaning you don't have to push any button or use it at all, you can even have it off and it still be hackable.
http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/01/hands-on-hacking-wifi-protected-setup-with-reaver/
Also, on the subject of the G300NH being end of line - if its end of line, why did a new dd-wrt build just get released on Aug 3, 2012 for this unit? You have claimed to have spoken with buffalo support before about matters regarding this unit, and each and every time you seem to make a claim, it doesn't come to life. Buffalo's user friendly firmware for this unit may be end of line, but dd-wrt is not - obviously. No offense, but you really need to get your facts straight on certain matters before you post infos, because thus far, the infos you post have been consistantly incorrect everytime.
well buddee if you read into the cake posted by random blogs made by cluless people then you will just be as stupid as you look.
back on topic, new firmware is proper fast for navigation through the gui.
this is within topic, i am reporting what i see in the beta build i am testing. why you can't answer end of life questions i pose for you speaks for itself, like usual. also why you seemed fit to pipe in with your 'opinion' on whether WPS is secure or not - nobody will ever know, we have already acknowledged that it is not secure in the dd-wrt community, as its not supported in the community builds...
whether you want to accept that WPS is insecure is up to you, but as usual, with as clueless on matters as you are - you always provide me with a good laugh, thanks for that. LOL
i do believe wps is insecure, however if you turn it off, PROPERLY, not like with those cisco/linksys crappy router which say its off but its actually still on. then you do have a secure setup. need to make sure you dont use crappy router to begin with.
and always remember nothing is totally secure, even wpa2 can be cracked given enough time and skill.
so buddee what you fail to understand is that with wps properly disabled, it doesnt present a security risk.... if its disabled properly.
back on topic: anyone else notice a massive speed increase with the web gui on this new build? im not getting any failed to load gui pages or slow loading of the gui pages. its instant and proper fast for me.
in response to buddee and the reaver link.
in researching this I also discovered the following site: http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/723755 . I did notice and disabled "External Registrar" which was deafulted to enabled. Thanks for the link, sorry for the hijack
What you fail to understand is that there is no solution found, it can be hacked regardless of if you turn it 'off' or not, disabling the external registar doesn't prevent this attack, security experts know this, so does the US-CERT site, but they still give you advice to turn off the external registar so as to not cause a big security panic, which as i said, turning off the external registar does nothing - their solution to the problem is "We are currently unaware of a practical solution to this problem." and rightly so, because there is no solution if WPS is already in the firmware, the known solution is not to have WPS in the firmware to begin with, that is the solution, but its not 'practical'.
So slybunda, at first its they need to go into your house and push the WPS button (which was utterly wrong to begin with), now its that you have to properly disable it? Like i said, you don't know what you are talking about...
Hi,
I have been using DD-WRT build # 18024 and recently tried upgrading to more recent builds but I keep getting connectivity problems between devices that are connected directly to the router via wire. If I switch my laptop from wired to wireless then I can access other resource, however on cable I can't. I have a cable going from my WZR-HP-G300NH to a switch and the devices on it seem to work fine. It's just the wired devices connected directly to the WZR-HP-G300NH don't seem to see each other on network.
I tried resetting using the 30/30/30 and NVRAM via telnet methods but these didn't help me either. I also cleared my browser cache after resetting and this didn't help either.
Can other WZR-HP-G300NH owners please share some pointers on how you made the recent builds work?
Thanks!
I used the IP's for my machines to find them within windows networking (and linux as well), another thing you may try is assigning static DHCP's to the machines in question, this will atleast make them show up in dd-wrt's DHCP pool which helps some with being able to see them via LAN as well.
Hi. My problem is the same like famaus with WZR-HP-G300NH and Buffalo PRO DDWRT 19484. The problem with the wired connection between Devices gone with Buffalo PRO DDWRT 17798. Does anyone know how to solve the problem with wired connections in Buffalo PRO DDWRT 19484? Thanks in advance!
19484 hasn't been released in all regions yet, anyone have any ideas why?
After trying several different ways of installing firmware, I am starting to believe that something is wrong within this device and whatever it is, has been fixed in the firmwares > r18024. I even tried the Buffalo's latest PRO firmware for this device and that gives the same problem too.
Will Buffalo consider replacement after using it for almost a year??
i have problems with 19484. wireless doesn't work for me. have a lock symbol light on the router and no wireless icon lights up. i went back to older wrt 14998 and it's working again..
You have to make sure that after the flash, you are resetting to defaults either with a 30-30-30 reset or from within telnet.
19484 doesnt save the settings config after rebooting router. my ssid always changed back into the "myroutermacaddress". tried it couple of times. anyone having the same issue ?
Hello , Having the same problem as famaus and Todd above. WZR-HP-G300NH,ver 1, build 19484. I have two wired hosts, which cannot ping or otherwise reach each other through router.
I *can* ping that wired host from other hosts connected wirelessly. I also can ping both wired hosts when I have ssh'ed into the router itself. My previous firmware was 14998 with the same settings, and this was not an issue. Thanks for any advice, Fred
was anyone able to fix the issue so that wired clients can ping and see each other?
TODD wrote:Hi.
I must also say that 19484beta is the best firmware for both WZR-HP-G300NH and WZR-HP-G301NH in terms of wireless connection stability. It's very solid. But on other hand, to resolve the issue with LAN-to-LAN connectivity problem introduced after DD-WRT v18024, I have added gigabit switch after the router and every wired host would then connect to the gigabit switch instead of the router itself. Problem solved. Though this problem solving method may not be suitable for everyone but for me I happen to have the gigabit switch. Hope it helps
Just curious, aside from Buddee, anyone able to get the wired to wired pc connecting to each other with the beta build? What revision of the router, A2A0?
Since upgrading to DD-WRT v24SP2-MULTI (07/15/12) std (SVN revision 19484) I don't encounter any issues with connectivity for both Wired and Wireless except for the bandwidth graph of wireless.
My Buffalo code is B0 C0...
I had this problem on A2 A0.
See http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Wireless/WZR-HP-G300NH-build-19484-and-ARP-issue/m-p/113606#M15199 for a solution
I upgraded my G300NH to the newer 19484 build earlier this week. While it resolved some of the poor wifi issues, it introduced some weird behavior. First being , my wife's Atheros based wifi card stopped getting authenticated to the router (worked fine on the older build). I dug around and discovered the "wireless' mode is broken in the new build. Since I had the setting set to 'N Only', it caused the Atherors based wifi cards not to get authenticated. I changed the mode to "NGMixed" and it connected fine.
Signal was good, especially for 3 of my laptops downstairs in the house. But everytime I'd turn on my Xbox and start playing BLOPS2 online, the router will hiccup momentarily and drop all connections...even wired (I'd get kicked out of Xbox Live). With no intervention, the router would fix itself in 20 secs or so and everything is connected again.
Then I found another yet newer build from the DD-WRT community (not Buffalo). Flashed that yesterday morning and so far, ALL my issues have been resolved. Haven't rebooted the router since yesterday. Have gamed on Xbox last night with 2 hours (while my wife was surfing on my laptop, kids streaming Netflix on Wii U)....zero issues so far.
Ironically that the 'best' firmware that worked for me is from the great DD-WRT community and not Buffalo.
If I have any issues with this firmware, I'm throwing the Buffalo router out the window and going to Linksys (my older routers were all Linksys and I had the need to tweak them..they just worked).
Hmmm. Maybe after ~3 years of trying there's a usable DDWRT for this thing? My experience has been that the best wifi reliability is on the Buffalo 1.74 / 1.76 firmwares.
OpenWRT uses ATH9K too. The only way I've gotten reliable wifi there is by disabling WMM mode which forces you to G rates.
1.74 is the best now
Fragster, any change you could post the version number which you had sucess with or the download link even ? Thanks...
To answer my own question of sorts from dd-wrt forums 21286 has been used by some owners of this router for a few weeks with out issues. I've just upgraded from Buffalo DD-WRT to it and everything works so far. The main thing I've notices is wifi seems a lot stronger. I'll post updates....
How nice! Is the Wifi signal also stronger then Buffalo stock firmware 1,74/1.76?
I've never used the stock Buffalo firmware, only ever used the 'Pro' DD-WRT build provided by Buffalo.
Day 2 still no problems, range and signal strength is better than Buffalo DD-WRT.
I've had 7 devices connected at once (max we have) no problem including streaming HD to a media setup. I've done some heavy upload and downloading as well. It's all good so far on 21286 for me (I have the v1 fyi)
That sounds nice!
Maybee somebody else can make a comparison between stock en this version of DD-Wrt?
I tried DD-WRT 21286. The wifi seems more stable than with OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment but I still had it drop out. I'm back on Buffalo 1.74.
No drop outs for me, all running perfectly
WIth me the problem is my notebook with a Broadcom 802.11n board. Only the 1.74 firmware seems to let it stay connected reliably. It may also be related to radio frequency congestion in my apartment area. On the other hand, my tablet that uses a TI chip doesn't have connectivity problems.
We've got a mix of HTC devices, Nexus, PS3, iOS devices, intel and realtek wifi cards. No broadcom...
