Password problem
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:15:33 AM »

What I should do becouse I don't get into my WebAcces.

I used username: admin and password: password, and I haven't change them never!

My Buffalo was in EM -mode and I installed a new firmware,  even twice, but nothing happened.

Model is linkstation LS-CH1.0TL-EU

The username admin and guest are default user names used by buffalo and will not validate for the Web access. You will need to create a new user for the web access feature to use.

hello

same problem for me with the linkstation duo WXL

after an update : impossible to enter into the admin interface with admin and 'password' . I never changed it !!!!

I tried all the solution :

- format the disk

- start in EM MODE

- update with mode debug= 1 and all parameters checked ( delete user_config and others)

- all is correct : installation, reboot

- I can see the nas into the Nasnavi

almost perfect except the admin password is not good !!!!!

the user-config is not deleted !!!

in the nasnavi my nas always have the name I choose befor all my problem !!

solution with power off, function button, etc. No factory reset :(

Please buffalo, give us a simple hotfix to reinitialize the admin password !!

If you navigate in the forum

many people have the same symptom with no result

many people with a very protected NAS : even the owner can't access : smileymad:

Have these all problems come with the new firmware? I had been connection with Buffalo support center, but I got the same advice that I have already tried before.

Here's new message from Buffalo:

Thank you for contacting the Buffalo Helpdesk regarding your unit.

Thank you for your reply regarding LinkStation.

At the moment, you cannot take your data off, and opening the case will void your warranty.

Please see below for details on how to bring the unit to EM mode.

EM Boot:

LS-CHL-V2              *65/**55 seconds

- Power the unit down (disconnect the power by pulling out the power cable while the unit is ON).

- Reboot it, if the power led is still flashing more than * second's from the start, disconnect the power and retry.

- Do this until the unit's power led is constant ** second's after the start and the unit is on EM.

Please note it can take a number of attempts to bring the unit to EM mode (approx 15-20). Once the unit is in EM mode it will be displayed as such in the NAS Navigator software (firmware will show as “---“) and we can then install the firmware on the unit.

Firmware Update:

Please get the latest firmware v 1.41 from our website:

http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads

Extract the downloaded folder to your desktop.

Disable any kind of Firewall and Antivirus software.

Setup a cable network connection with PC and Buffalo-NAS to your router, with a DHCP Server, DHCP is required for to update for newer units.

Disable all other network connections on your PC (such as wireless connection).

Check that the PC and the unit are in the same IP-Address range.

Within the extracted firmware folder start the *updater.exe file and select Update.

How I can check that the PC and the unit are in the same IP-Adress?

just a research on the forum

http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Linkstation-Duo-LS-WXL-media-server-issue/td-p/39714/page/2

the step (for a wxl linkstation duo)

1- extract the HD

2- -format the hd directly on a pc (with a usb dock) in ntfs

3- put the disk into the nas

4- Directly connect your NAS to your computer via an Ethernet cable (crossover isn't necessary).

5- Set your computer's NIC (Network Interface Card) to a static IP address of 192.168.11.1  (255.255.0.0)

6- power on the nas and wait for the EM mode

7- unzip the old firmware and open tne lsupdate.ini. Change like this

[Flags]

versioncheck=0

noformatting=0

[SpecialFlags]

Debug=1

and save

8- run lsupdater.exe

9-  find the nas

10- Right click on the title bar of the firmware update window and choose Debug (D). The resulting window will pop up:

11- check all (very important )

12- begin the update

at this moment, the update fail because the nas modify its ip adress (don't know why) : the ip is a bit like this : 169.254.xxx.yyy (255.255.0.0)

13-  Set again your computer's NIC (Network Interface Card) to a static IP address of 169.254.xxx.1   (255.255.0.0)

14- close lsupdater

15- open lsupdater and pray :)

16- right click again to check all and update again

17- pray again :)

18- writing, formatting, writting, rebooting...... waiting : do nothing until the succes box

For my part : the update crashes. the second one is the good one :)

open the web interface : http:\\169.254.xxx.yyy

the interface is in japanese but admin password works !!!

to modify language

1) Forth option along top = System.

2) First option below this = Settings.

3) Third Red Bar = Language

4) Click button to 'Modify Settings'

5) First Drop down is 'Display Language'

I could restore the defaul admin password too:)

But for me the Debug (D) command wasn't working, it kept giving an error and restart the process for 10 or more times before I aborted it. Then I tried a normal Update and it worked properly resetting the password too:)

I had the exact same problems after upgrading firmware to 1.54 with LS-VL (LS-V1.0TL)

I have tried everything I could find -- from the simplest (reset NAS) to the most complicated.  But no matter what I do I cannot get the admin password to reset (and I know I did not select the option to not allow it to be reset on a reset).

I forced EM Boot and then forced the Firmware "Downgrade" to 1.41 again, and the NASNav2 won't let me do anything because there is a Firmware Update available (and the LED is amber).

But when I go to install the 1.54 Firmware I need the admin password (which it will never accept -- whether I use 'password' or my password I changed it to).  Even when I add the debug/delete user config options I still need the admin password.  And so now I can't access any of my files.

My next step is going to attempt to force into EM again and run the force firmware upgrade with 1.54 -- but I anticipate that the password problem will not go away...

This is very annoying that the update is mandatory, but then doesn't work properly.  Any further suggestions out there?
