Recycle option set, but no .trash file
« on: October 05, 2008, 11:30:20 PM »

Hi,

I thought that I had enabled the recycle bin on each of the 'shared folders' on my Linkstation HD HLAN 160GB (The web interface shows the 'recycle bin enabled' for each of the five 'shared folders' that I set up), however there is only a '.trash' file one 'shared folder' that has no 'access restriction', but no '.trash' file in any of the other four 'shared folders' which I put 'access restrictions' on.

Of course I did not notice this until I deleted some valuable information on an account without a '.trash' file (trusting in the web interface).  Not too bright I know!

What did I do wrong?

Is there any way to recover the deleted data?

Is there a Linux tool that I can run to recover the data (I am using XP on my PC)?

thanks for any help.

I would flash the firmware on your unit and check out

here is a good one for data recovery

XFS-repair-rev2.pdf

as far as software to recover the data goes you can try this, then there is always data recovery.
