: LS-XH1.0TL NAS will not accept password after firmware update
: jcsmith1000 October 17, 2011, 10:14:23 PM

My NAS went into EM mode. I followed instructions to upgrade firmware to 1.54 and now the password will not be accepted and the default will not work either.  I can see the HDD in the NASNavigator. All the data appears to still be intact, however I cannot get past this password problem.  When I try to map the drive I get the error: Failed mapping. Remote default share is missing.  I saw where a few others had this issue and were sent a file to fix their issue.  I would appreciate the fix... Thank you.

Davo,

Your recovery file worked. Why won't Buffalo post the fix in the support section? Just doesn't make sense to me.  So many people have had this problem with this product. (Spent most of the weekend and this week banging my head against the desk trying to figure it out.) Shame on you Buffalo!!!

Thank you so much Davo. You are a life saver...

Dave you are a genius!!

This worked a treat on my LS-WVL104.

Followed the intructions and it reset the password after 1 min

I was then able to login using the default user and p/w via the web admin.  When I logged in I was then able to run the firmware update to installed 1.54 on the NAS.

Thanks again

Hi Dave,

Are you the man with the answers?  I have a LS-WXLF17 that was accidentally powered down and went into EM.  I updated the firmware to v1.54 and have since not been able to map to the share.

Failed mapping.

Remote default share is missing.

But the HDD and data look like they are still there using the NasNavigator and I can see the share by logging on with the defaults via IE, I am just not able to browse.  I have also tried a direct connection and adjacent IP addresses to no avail;  I'm stumped.

Can you help me, please.  Thanks,

Nigel

Dear Davo,

I have exactly the same problem with jcsmith1000?, but on LS-CH1.0TL.

Everything looks OK except it doesn't remember default password.

I wonder if the solution you provided to him will also work for me.

Could you please tell me how it can be fixed?

Thank you,

I had a crash on my LS-CHL hard drive and I've finished updating the firmware to 1.54 i believe.  It's now asking me for the admin password.  I never changed it from admin/password, and that's not working.  Is there some new password i need to use.  Can you tell me what to do.  Thank you.  Fraser Street, fraserstreet@yahoo.com

would everyone list the firmware revision you were starting from, and the FW revision you are trying to upgrade to, when this password issue happens (and your product part number)

I've passed this to the engineers, but they need to know which FW revision to examine.

Thanks for your time spent.

: Re: LS-XH1.0TL NAS will not accept password after firmware update
: anup January 09, 2012, 05:48:21 AM

Find the Solution below for LS-WXL

Firstly: please download firmware version 1.40 and a utility called ACP Commander from the below link (both in the same folder)

http://109.104.88.61/support/getfile/?LS-series-fw140-acp.zip

Extract the downloaded folder to your Desktop.

Ensure the Windows PC we are using for this procedure is connected via Ethernet cable to the same router as the LinkStation.

Turn off any wireless adaptor you may have running on your PC and deactivate all antivirus and firewall software (including the Windows firewall)

Open up the NAS Navigator program and make a note of what IP address is showing for the LinkStation.

In the extracted downloaded folder, right click on the file called acp-commander.bat and select EDIT.

In the window that opens you will see the following:

Java -jar acp-commander.java –t “NAS IP” -emmode –reboot

pause

We need to delete “NAS IP” and instead enter the IP address you took from NAS Navigator. For example if NAS Navigator showed an IP of 192.168.11.100, then the contents of the acp-commander.bat file will look as follows:

Java -jar acp-commander.java –t 192.168.11.100 -emmode –reboot

pause

Go to File and Save, and then run the acp-commander.bat file. The LinkStation will automatically restart and when it has rebooted it will show as being in EM Mode on the NAS Navigator software.

Go back to the extracted folder for firmware 1.40 and run the LSupdater.exe file.

When the updater window opens and displays the information for the LinkStation, right click the title bar of this window and select “Debug”. A new window will open. Refer to the image below for what options to select under the “Config Section”

There is no need to change any of the other settings, leave them at the defaults.

Click OK, and then Update and allow 10 – 15 minutes for the update to complete, and the LinkStation to automatically restart.

Once it has restarted, the LinkStation will show in NAS Navigator as using firmware 1.40, and you will have access to the unit again

When you log onto the web configuration page of the unit (using admin and password), the language will have changed to Japanese. To change back to English please refer to the link below:

 http://buffalo-helpdesk.dyndns.org/jp-en.htm

These instructions show an example using a TeraStation instead of a LinkStation but the process is the same.

Please backup your data to a different device before running the update for firmware version 154 (no need to enable the debug options for the 1.54 update).

Firmware 1.54 can be downloaded from our website at

 http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/

Once the update for 1.54 has completed, the unit will be accessible on your network as before.

Regards,

Anup

Well...

I have the Nas LS-CHL with 1.56 fw at a remote location and only an iMac on the same LAN.

I just started "practicing" with iMac a couple of days ago.

So if someone can explain how to do the same with OSX Lion, I would really appreciate.

I read that equivalent to .bat file would be a .sh script.

I expect to find java already installed on the iMac.

Update: I brought the Nas and I have access with admin/password from a WindowsVista/IE8 PC...

It's a LS-CH1.0TL-V2 with firmware 1.56

I will try again from the iMac OSX Lion/Safari.

after loss of password, have you tried to initialize the unit? Please include FW and part number of unit., and whether you were in EM mode, or just updating the firmware.

Well, same here.  Power went out, went into EM mode, had to update firmware to 1.60.  Now cannot access admin due to password.  Tried all the resets, with the funciton button, no luck.  My model is LS- CH1.0TL.  Would appreicate the help and am pm'ing you Davo with my email.

Getting no response, would appreciate any help.  Again, what happened is that there was a power outage and my LS-CH1.0 came up in EM mode.  I went to the Buffalo Technology website dowloaded and reinstalled vs 1.60 of the firmware.  The drive comes up but I cannot log into it with the admin password.  I have gone through the default password reset feature by holding down the function button on power on and then pressing function a second time.  This will not reset the admin password like it is supposed to.  I would appreicate any help.  I have read that there is a fix for this, but do not know what the procedure is.

Hi Davo,

I'm facing the same issue with Buffalo CloudStation CS-X2,  I tried the LSRecovery.exe, it was able to detect my NAS but it was unable to reset the password. Please advice?

: Re: LS-XH1.0TL NAS will accept password after firmware update
: oalkhalili March 29, 2013, 11:31:18 AM

This is an update, finally I got it works and solve my problem:

the reset procuder as follow: (This I used for CloudStation CS-X2)

Bring the unit to EM mode which will put the NAS in a state where it is detectable on the network and allow us to reset the password/settings to allow access to the unit again.

-  Power the unit down (disconnect the power by pulling out the power cable while the unit is ON).

-  Reboot the unit, if the power led is still flashing more than 60 second's from the start, disconnect the power immediately and retry.

-  Do this until the unit's power led is constant 50 second's after the start and the unit is in EM.

Please note it can take a number of attempts to bring the unit to EM mode.

Once the unit is in EM mode run the file shared by Davo (LSRecovery.exe) and it will do the rest, Plz note: this file is not working one windows 8 better to use compatabilty mode and select Windows Xp SP3)

I would like to first to thank my God then thank Customer support for the EM procedure they sent me by mail as well as thank Davo for his support and share.

This procedure helped me reset the NAS password and saved my data.

I have an LS-VL-EME69 that went into EM Mode - Do you have an idea for me to try to recover my lost data?

I also have a usb drive backup that was attached to this drive mentioned above, and I cannot get into this either.

So I have yet another Buffalo drive laying around - a LS-XHL162, so I tried to plug my usb backup into that one and access it, but it asks me for a user name & password that I apparently don't know.  Help please - jason@mortbrothers.com
