With 1.06 the permission problem has been solved.

However port settings are still lost once you switch off or restart, and there is no support for private trackers.

It would also be nice to add BitTorrent protocol encryption.

Thanks for your answer and for your activity on this forum.

I'm really very disappointed by the poor support available for these products (I bought the LS-CHL because they were advertising its Mac compatibility).

The Time Machine function is particularly poorly documented.

The bit torrent is only a beta (a feature as simple as keeping the settings does not work) and the mac version of the rare firmware updates is released several weeks after the windows one.

Of course I will not recommand this product anymore for the next 6 months, until the present customer beta test period is over

I think you forgot the price of your Linkstation compared to TimeCapsule and the possibilities that it can offer to you.

I don't say that the lower price is an excuse for everything, but you could be more patient about the minor problems with Mac. There isn't lot of NAS that supports natively Mac, TimeCapsule and iPhone.

The TimeMachine doesn't need a big documentation.. With the last firmware (it's a shame that we can only install it under Windows) and this forum you should be able to configure it easily.

I think/hope that it will be better and more easily to use for all of us soonly. :)

When you say the permissions problem has been solved with fw 1.06 what do you mean?

I still cannot delete folders in my bittorrent folder.

Hi SilverFoX,

I'd also like to bring up some of the bugs I've found in 1.06.

1. On the home screen, "HDD Space Used" is not populated.

2. Shared Folders Setup-> Add, Volume drop down is empty.

3. Shared Folders, Unable to check Folders created without a volume populated (therefore cannot delete)

4. Shared Folders, Renaming the share that is used by the bittorrent client forces the recreation of the share but with a description of "recovered" (expected behaviour? I would have thought renames should affect the bittorrent prefs)

5. Torrent client, no ability to select "do not download" on particular files. Must always download entire torrent.

6. Maintenance->Power Management, usage window seems to have no affect whatsoever. NAS doesn't turn on or off at the given times.

7. Direct Copy-> No ability to modify the extensions that are copied.

8. Disk Management->USB settings. Cannot share a USB disk connected to the NAS.

9. Network speed, why is that I can't only manage 12.5Mbps sustained transfer rates to the NAS when directly connected and negotiating at gigabit? I get 24Mbps to my 2.5" USB Disk.

I personally am not very happy with this device. I could have bought a 1TB with USB interface for half the price and doubled my transfer rates not to mention avoided all these bugs!

I hope the peoply at Buffalo get their act together soon and fix up the numerous issues with this device.

Kind regards,

Joshua

9. A NAS will "always" be slower then a external hdd. The data has to go thru the CPU, which often is quite slow, on a NAS. If I remember correctly I get around 18Mbps, but I will check this the next time I get the chance.

Hi again,

a short overview regarding the problems:

  1. not compatible to private trackers (which need a registration or/and use a passkey)
  2. settings (BitTorrent) will reset to defaults if Linkstation is reseted, rebooted or switched off or if the network connection is lost!!!
  3. no rights to delete or cut downloaded torrent files - if the files are located in a subfolder only the files are deletable or movable (the folder/files located directly in the "bittorrent" directory are write-protected)
  4. no security regarding the webaccess of the bittorrent download page - everybody is able to delete ongoing torrents if there is a remote access configured
  5. no individual torrent options regarding seed/download speed etc (thanks to "simonklinga" for reminding me)
  6. And is there a way to make the bittorrent download manager secure, by adding a code? (thanks to "zeecue" )
  7. Problem with seeding finished downloads - the client stops the upload even if set to seed/upload until removed in the options (thanks to "Topolaccio" )
  8. some folders located in the bittorrent folder canīt be deleted even with the webaccess workaround
  9. buggy drive erease (sometimes the drive has to be brought back to life with tftp because itīll never completly boot up again - slow erease is some kind of normal cos it irreversely deletes all data on the linkstation or at least should do it)
  10. sometimes the configuration of webaccess ignores the port and still uses port 9000
  11. checkboxes to select more than just a single file or folder with webaccess (to download or delete etc)
  12. after or while disk erase allow at least a change of the language of the unit (mine was japanese or chinese all of sudden)
  13. a folder to put torrent files which is polled by the bittorrent client (no need to enter every torrent files located on the HDD or psate the link) O/AND a windows/linux/mac addon/application which links torrent filesdirectly with the Linkstation torrent client
  14. no logout option when exiting webaccess - which i would need...

in the forums Paul mentioned several times that a firmware update is on its way - first it was early december then it got delayed to mid december.....

we now have end december  january and there is still no firmware update and the problems mentioned in the forumsstill persist!

also there is no information which issues are resolved and which are going to be ignored for the time being.

some more details would be appriciated!

well, there is still no changelog available -_-

nothing mentioned if private trackers will ever be supported.....

regards,

SilverFoX

-> everything seems okay at my end....perjaps corrupted firmware? had something similar with 1.02

2. Shared Folders Setup-> Add, Volume drop down is empty.

-> will check it soon when being home again....

-> no problems here - listing Disk 1 - seems to bee a faulty firware update

3. Shared Folders, Unable to check Folders created without a volume populated (therefore cannot delete)

-> will check it soon when being home again....

->-> no problems here - check boxes can be ticked and folders be deleted - seems to be a faulty firware update

-> will check it soon when being home again....

-> havenīt got enough space to test it now....sorry

5. Torrent client, no ability to select "do not download" on particular files. Must always download entire torrent.

-> very annoying! some options would be nice :)

6. Maintenance->Power Management, usage window seems to have no affect whatsoever. NAS doesn't turn on or off at the given times.

7. Direct Copy-> No ability to modify the extensions that are copied.

-> havenīt tried it until now - will look at it in about 2-3 days....

   -> same here -.-

8. Disk Management->USB settings. Cannot share a USB disk connected to the NAS.

-> havenīt tried it until now - will look at it in about 2-3 days....

-> no problems at all - reading and writing - seems to be a faulty firware upda

9. Network speed, why is that I can't only manage 12.5Mbps sustained transfer rates to the NAS when directly connected and negotiating at gigabit? I get 24Mbps to my 2.5" USB Disk.

-> as Jocke72 and Colin137 said - speed isnīt the best with the Linkstation....only way to tweak it would be overclocking the ARM9 CPU >500MHz which could damage it and void the warranty -.-

I personally am not very happy with this device. I could have bought a 1TB with USB interface for half the price and doubled my transfer rates not to mention avoided all these bugs!

the thing which makes me wonder is that most other threads caught the attention of some mods - but this is just left out.....only Paul posted one message with a promise he didnīt keep......why is that???

still no official comment on these matters?

could anybody of the support members/mods please provide information about chances of fixing these things or if they are passed to your so-called "office"?

SilverFoX

I was able to delete files on my LS-CHL after firmware update to 1.06.  It didn't seem to take effect immediately for some reason which threw me off.  But I tried again later and was able to delete files/folder in my bittorrent directory.

Yay!

Chaps,

Just bought this Linkstation and on the whole it does all I need. Just got one issue, after a torrent has been added and then finished downloading I don't see the file in the media server selected folder. In my case /share/bittorrent, until I reboot the device. I am running the new firmware 1.06.

I could set power options to restart in the middle of the night, but would much prefer them to just appear. Is it me just not waiting long enough? Or something I'm doing wrong?

Silver Fox - when submitting bug reports, please verify your exact model number (I know you are submitting in a LS-CH*L post, but some people submit mixed product issues) and firmware revision. Are you submitting for the LS-CH*L and which firmware revision. Our products have evolved through several hardware/firmware revisions of the same product and our Japanese engineers require clarification for each request. Yes, we forwarded previous requests.
