Getting laptop on my encrypted network
« on: January 09, 2009, 08:13:52 AM »
Hi.  I apologize in advance for this dumb question, but wireless connections are not my forte. I have a WHR G545 and I'm trying to encrypt my network.  I went through this process via Buffalo's software on my desktop.  All good with a WEP 128 13-digit key I created.  Yes, I know WEP is crap.  I don't know how to know if my PC can handle AES... Anyway, then I got to my laptop, and I don't know what I'm doing.  It didn't work, so I un-encrypted the desktop and am starting over.  My desktop is a Dell, about 5 years old, running Windows XP.  My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad R61, 18 months old, also running Windows XP.  Any help you can give me is appreciated.  Thanks!

Try logging into the web interface of the router at 192.168.11.1 and manually setting the encryption from there.

Thanks.  Once I do that on my desktop and get the encryption set up, I lose my internet access on my laptop, so I don't know how to get my laptop to recognize the network now that it's encrypted.  Can you help me with that part?

You can reset the router, (red init button) or you can hardwire a pc into the router via Ethernet
