Can FW 1.74 be used in LS-CHL V1 version?
« on: February 18, 2019, 06:27:46 AM »
Hi

I have a LS-CHL V1 version in my home and I noticed that it has switched to EM mode (flashign red lights). I have been reading through  all related posts but was not sure that FW 1.74 can be installed after the tftp process?

Can somebody help to clear my concern?

thanks

ah, okay I see that now. They're both listed on the LS-CHL downloads page.

Yeah, make absolutely sure you've got the right one. I know the LS-WTGL R1/R3 will flash the wrong boot loader and brick the device if you use the wrong firmware updater. I don't know if the LS-CHL V1/2 is the same or not but be careful.

fortunately the newer devices/firmware do a better job of protecting you from that kind of thing.

Chrome's translate usually works ok for me.

The main point of the post is to point out if your web interface has a blue style it's an older Orion-based device, if it has the newer red style it's the newer Kirkwood-based device.

Yes it has blue web interface but othe point is, there is a sentence in fW section which is saying

Thank you for using the LinkStation Series.

This software updates LS-XHL, LS-CHL, LS-WXL, LS-WSXL, LS-SL, LS-AVL, LS-VL, LS-WVL, LS-QVL, LS-XL, LS-YL, LS-WXBL series firmware to version 1.74. If your firmware is already version 1.74 or later and the LinkStation is not in EM mode, you do not need this update.
UNQUOTE

Considering my LS-CHL's current status (which is in EM mode) I thought that this could be an opportunity to upgrade that devide to 1.74. It is just a food for thought

Otherwise I will try to re-install 1.12 again

it might work, it might not, it might ruin your device forever. If someone ever tried it there might be an old post about it on this forum. There are a few old threads about people bricking their ls-wtgl by accident back in the day.
