Cat5e with Drivestation?
« on: January 18, 2009, 12:35:56 PM »

I have a 500GB Gigabit Buffalo Drive Station acting as Network Attached Storage. This drive came with a very long (20' or so) ribbon style cable for ethernet.

Couldn't I use a Cat6 ethernet cable for this drive? I ask because I remember reading somewhere in the instructions (which I can't find) not to use ethernet cables with it because it could damage the drive. I'm going by memory here... but is that really correct? How would a Cat6 cable hurt the drive? Do I have to used the supplied ribbon cable?

Hi,

Connecting to Linkstation by CAT6 cable is not problem. It can be used on the Linkstation as long as your internal network is all connected by CAT6 cables.
