Flashing Japanese WHR-300HP with US firmware?
« on: February 01, 2013, 02:24:01 AM »

I just moved to Tokyo and bought the WHR-300HP in Akihabara.

I'd like to be able to read the interface (my Japanese level is 'very basic'), and I see that there's firmware available for this model on the Buffalotech (USA) site.

Are the units sold in Japan the same, hardware-wise, as the US units?

Can I safely flash the firmware without bricking my unit?

Thanks,

Frode

Hello,

same trouble for me for a WHR-300 ?

there it is not possible to find a firmware named exactly WHR-300 ? are they so much different than the 300HP or the other 300 serie?

a dd-wrt would be fine too..

Is anyone from Buffalo actually reading these forums?

Surely this is not a hard question to answer? O_o

seems as though this unit is sold in the US also.

This being the case you should be able to flash it with US firmware.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Thanks for your reply.

I would still like confirmation from Buffalo that the hardware is the same, so I don't brick my unit.

OK, so it's only about $30 to replace it if I do break it, but the inconvenience is what matters.

How long must a post be on this board before anyone from Buffalo cares enough about customer service to actually read/respond?

OK, I took a chance, and flashed it. I got it to work, so now I have English language in the interface!

To do so successfully, I followed the Ubuntu steps in this guide

Next step, find the DD-WRT firmware (aka "Pro" firmware) and upgrade to that!
