Storage / Re: Write Access to root Directory on ts-htgl/r5

Those guides for hacking smb2 support into the stock firmware typically target newer models, I don’t know if that can work or not with this model.

You can always try installing debian on it to get a modern version of samba, though you’d need to configure it yourself manually

The units are nearly 20 years old. Stop being cheap and just buy a new one that supports modern protocols.

Storage / Write Access to root Directory on ts-htgl/r5

Hello, I have a couple of older ts-htgl/r5 units, which I've been using for several years.
They only come with SMB-1 enabled, so need that setting in Windows 10, which isn't ideal for security reasons.
I've come across a possible fix to upgrade to SMB-2, using ACP Commander to enable SSH & set a temporary root password on the box.
When I try and log on to root using WinSCP, the password I've apparently successfully set with ACP Commander v1.5.6 (GUI) doesn't work.
I can use WinSCP to read the root directories using admin access & password fine, so it's talking to the box; I can't modify and save the files unless logged on as root, but the password is rejected.

Anyone any thoughts please, as I'd like to dispense with SMB-1 and also access these boxes via Windows 11

Thanks
Bill

Thanks, That showed that the password for access needed to be reset. If you were around the corner I'd by you a drink :)

Can you manually map the shares?

in Windows search type:

\\IP_Of_Terastation

and press enter.

Storage / NAS Drive not showing up on Windows 10
« Last post by EricGriffiths on November 21, 2023, 05:13:27 PM »
I have a computer that cannot be upgraded to windows 11, but I need it to have access to files on the NAS storage array.
It used to have access to the folders, but that stopped working about a month ago.
It appears to have started around the time that I updated the BIOS on the NAS Device.
It is a TS3410D Series NAS

when I connect to the storage device though the settings, It shows shows that I have 13 shared folders available to link to.

When I double click on the NAS drive in the NAS NAvigator2 application, it only shows three shares, and they are all "[Offline Share]"

The SMB in the NAS is set up to: Lower = SMB1; Upper = SMB3

SMB 1.0 is fully enabled on the client computer,

On my windows 11 laptop, I have no problem in seeing and reconnecting to any of the shares.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Linkstation uses an old TLS version that Buffalo refuse to do anything about. Options are to ignore the message or just use HTTP (wouldn't recommend this for web access).

Yesterday I had access to the NAS internal settings, shares etc by entering it's IP address 129.168.1.208 in my chrome browser. Today, I get the message "Unsafe Site" and Chrome or Firefox wont connect. I got the same message trying to log in using "Buffalonas.com." I spent the day browsing the internet and the closest thing I got was maybe a bad ssl socket. I know my credentials are ok, because I can connect via cell phone app. Any one know whats going on. I get the same response when I try and open set

that NAS doesn't have SMB2 which Windows 11 needs to map a network drive.
