I recently had a raid failure I replaced the drive and I now need to restart the raid but the utility will only allow me to erase all drives. Is there any way to restripe including the new drive and retain the data?
Depends on your RAID level. In a RAID 0 failure all data is lost. A failure of one disk RAID 1,10 or 5 it is supposed to preserve your data.
It is in a raid 5 but the tool just says raid failure.. I replaced the bad drive and now need to stripe the new drive but the tool will not allow me to do anything other then format it....
I am not an expert in RAID, but I think the drive must be formatted first and then the RAID rebuilt. These are two different steps. Formatting should take minutes, but rebuilding of the RAID takes at least 8 hours if not a lot more.
