Hi,
my product is LinkStation Duo LS-WX2.0 TL/R1 and after and energy problem it entered into EM mode. Following the FAQ section I updated the firmware (via LSUpdater.exe 1.33) with version 1.42- 2.63.
After the update, I can see it into NAS Navigator 2 correctly but I can't see the share nor the mapped drive unit. I'm trying to access into web configuration but every user/password data I use doesn't work. I tried admin/password but nothing. I followed the faq and forum articles about the reset password process to back to factory default values but doesn't work (the information about the Linkstation seems the same).
I don't what can I do to fix the problem. Anyone could help me, please?
Thank you very much
This is an issue that has been reported to Buffalo Corperate. Basically if a unit goes into EM mode randomly and you update to 1.41 or 1.42 then the default username/password will not work and you cannot access your files or interface. There is no resolution right now and I am waiting to hear from Buffalo.
wow :mansad: that's incredible.
Does exist any way to access via telnet or ssh with root user or something similar to try to create a new admin user?
What can I do? Does exist a official support channel to contatc Buffalo? Can I access via USB?
Jotin, thank you very much for your reply and your effort, you are a very kind man.

I assume you keep some sort of backup?! I've been looking into this issue, you should be able to recover the unit but the data will be erased.
Hi davo,
no, I didn't any backup :( but I's very hard for me to believe there isn't any solution because I can see (via NAS Navigator) that the amount of file (% used) is there but I can't access due to a user doesn't work properly after a procedure described for this case.
Of course, you are right and backup is very important: I learned the lesson... I'll buy a second unit.
Do you think that it could be useful to mount the HDs into a linux system to try to save the data?
Thank you for your support.

Yeah definately, if you have any understanding of linux you should be fine, or use UFS explorer in Windows.
ok, after that how can I reset the linkstation?
ok Davo, I'll wait your feedback.
Many thanks
I am also working on this with another tech here so hopefully between all of us we can get a fix.
thank you very much Jotin
Hi,
have you any news?
thanks
HELLO! I am also waiting for a solution. It's been almost 2 weeks since my NAS decided not to allow me to log in to the web utility, even with the default admin/password combination.
What's going on???!!!!!???
Hi,
it's a bad situation. I hope in this forum help...
Still waiting.. Any resolution to that problem with the EM mode firmware update corrupting the login credentials?
Many thanks to this forum and the guys involved, but the Buffalo point of view is incredible.
We are several users with the same problem and we want a solution (a new firmware to unblock the admin credentials) now!
I'm very angry.
Check this:

thank you very much Escher.
I'll let you know if this solution works fine
Hi,
this is like the "Never ending story"! :(
Now I received 2 emails from my Linkstation:
-------------------------------
RAID Error Notification
HDD error occurred
Target array:RAID Array 1 (md2)
RAID array can not be mounted.
?--------------------------------
DISK Error Notification
HDD error occurred
Disk(s) the error occurred:"Disk 1"
(sda) READ sector:1999978 count:28
Disk writing error
Continuous backup is recommended.
?----------------------------------------------------
Please, give me a procedure to recover my datas (and if it's not possible) to recover my device.
Never more Buffalo products :-(
There is now a "solution" to reset web interface password:
http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Linkstation-LS-CH1-password-issue/td-p/70386
If you are able to recover a access to the linkstation, hopefully you can check/rebuild the RAID array.
Another solution would be to attach one drive (if you have RAID 1) to a Linux PC or a Windows PC using recovery software.
If not able to recover the data with the first drive try the second (one only at the same time).
If RAID 0, you have to mount both drives in order to recover.
To recover the unit, you need to check the drives you have, wipe the partitions or if damaged new ones as recommended in this list
http://www.buffalocloudstor.com/specs/hdd-list/
and follow the procedure in my former post.
Hi Escher,
I tried to follow your hint but the problem remains. If I try to upgrade (now I have 1.42-2.63 and I downloaded the version 1.43-8.87) the updater asks me the password and it doesn't accept anyone (defalut 'password' nor my old password. So, I would like to follow the procedure descripted in the post but I'm not able to find the 1.40 firmware version. Have you some link to dowload it?
Do you think the FAQ (3 of 5): TFTP boot procedure? could be a good solution? If yes, following the link what is the version I have to download? please, keep in mind that my product is LinkStation Duo LS-WX2.0 TL/R1?.
Thank you very much for your help
PS: now, triyng to reset the password procedure, after the boot I have 2 solid lights: power and info/error.
It is a good question. I don't find the FW 1.40.
If you have a solid blue light, in normal mode or EM mode. Can you see it in the navigator?
Are you sure the solid "red" light is red. I have never seen a solid red light. Some people report a red light and it is an amber light which means the " new firmware is available".
If you do a TFTP boot you will get stuck in the same situation, because even in EM mode, you will be asked for a password.
If you have a backup and don´t need to recover your information follow exactly this instructions:
http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/help-please/td-p/69446/page/2
You can delete partitiona 1 and 2 in Windows in both disks. I think the data will not survive.
As they were written current FW was 1.42, but FW 1.43 is OK.
The link in the post points to an "universal" TFTP boot for "Kirkwood" (the ARM processor).
Hi Escher,
I'm sorry, the red light is blinking (3 blinks and pause, etc.). It's solid amber when I tried to restore the default values, of course it doesn't succeed.
I see the device in NAS Navigator but it reports "not formatted". I'm receiving email with:
DISK Error Notification
HDD error occurred
Disk(s) the error occurred:"Disk 2"
?What is happened?
Why we can't find FW 1.40? Do you think we can ask it to Buffalo tech support?
In Linux (CentOs) I can see the HDDs but the partions appears some in ext3 and some Unkown.. Do you know which steps I have to follow in Windows UFS Explorer to try to receovery the data?
Thanks
E3 is not good. The description is Problems in RTC Chip. RTC stands for Real Time Clock.
This could be just misleading.
It is hard to know if the problem with disks is just the filesystem or a hardware failure.
Yes maybe tech support can help in getting the 1.40 FW.
The disks are formatted with 6 partitions.
Try as superuser. Partitions 1 and 2 are EXT3, 3 and 4 are dummys EST3, part 5 is swap, and part 6 is the data partition XFS
parted -l
You will have a report of all disks an partitions in the PC.
