LS-WTGL/R1-V3 - Shared Folder Character Limit
« on: September 23, 2009, 11:30:28 AM »

I am having trouble setting up two LinkStation Pro Duo (LS-WTGL/R1-V3).

Firmware: 3.10 (newest on the website)

Active Directory is being used to externally authenticate users.

I am trying to create share folder names that are the same as the username (ex. jpaztello5587)

The web admin seems to only allow 12 characters. Is there a way around this?

I have to set it up this way because of an active directory policy that will map the network drive to whatever computer they log in to. (net use L: \\NASDrive\%username%

Unfortunately changing the username is not an option.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

John Barrett

Well then what if I create one shared drive and sub folders in that shared drive. Is there a way to change permissions on the sub folders once you map the drive? Like you would with a normal folder on a server.

You cant set permissions on sub level folders on the root level.

So basically due to shotty firmware this drive is inevitably useless for anything more than a basic backup.

I cant believe you cant have a share over 12 characters or set sub folder persmissions....

I wouldnt say shotty.  But yes this is ideally used for a backup, and you should back that up etc.... This should never be your only source of backup for your data.
