: DLNA support for Linkstation & Samsung TV
: jamesjparker December 24, 2009, 01:41:12 PM

The Linkstation is available to the TV as one of the connections when I press the Source button on the remote, but am unable to view or browse any of the files on the NAS.

Why am I unable to access any of the files from the NAS?

Buffalo Linkstation, firmware#: 2.06

Samsung 40" LED TV, model#: UN40B7000, firmware#: 2009/11/10_001016

I wish I could give you some information, but this is a question for samsung.  If you have the media server option enabled for that folder you wish to view then configuring for a samsung would be on there side.

Sorry.

It's not a Samsung problem, have the same results using the PS3 as the client, that is I can "see" the LS, but unable to scroll through any of the folders.

Am considering ditching the LS, has anyone had success using DLNA on iomega or other NAS?

How are you getting the TV to see the Linkstation?

Over the network or plugged in via USB?

Am interested because I bought one specifically for this purpose and I cant get my samsung to see it either, but it picks up other DLNA devices on the network :-(

I have also a problem with my Samsung and my LInkstation LS-CHL-V2. In my case, the problem is not the TV, it is the installed media server on the linkstation.

I had the same problem.  I updated my NAS to firmware 2.11. That solved the problem.

Hi Support Team,

I found another issue with the Buffalo Linkstation DLNA 2TB and Samsung TV.

All setup is very easy and works from box. It meaning that, I can copy and paste any movies from PC to share folder on the Buffalo storage and is corectly indexed and showed on the Samsung TV in the Media Play Folder.

Problem:

I can not REWIND or FORWARD any streaming. It doesn't matter which movie format is: avi , mkv or any other.

Details:

The problem is related to the Buffalo Linkstation, because I have a few sources like : Win7 PC, MyBook II NAS (updated to DLNA) etc.

Only problem has been spotted if the streaming came from Buffalo.

ON the other sources buttons from remote control >> and << doesn't work as well, but right and left cursor  from selection cross works fine.

I can Fast Forward if push right cursor from cross. If keep push the right button then after sec Fast Forward is accelerated speed by double or triple. ( but triple lost synchronization and works like jump to forward not smooth forward )

If I try using Buffalo Linkstation doesn't work at all.

I can watch movies but can not fast forward or rewind !!

It is something wrong, because both devices received DLNA Certificate !!

Samsung TV works fine with others DLNA sources (for example if stop play movies and go to folder then after back again the TV ask "play from begining or from last positions"), so for me suspicius is the Buffalo linkstation.

Fix ?

Any idea how we can sort the problem ?

Any firmware update required ?

I'm looking forward from you

Thanks in advance

Sam

What is your model number and firmware version for your unit?

: Re: DLNA support for Linkstation & Samsung TV
: skyn3t July 05, 2011, 05:24:28 AM

Dear Team,

i Bought a Bufalo Link Navigador LS-CHL with 2TB and with version 1.37, that i upgraded to 1.42.

My model is LS-CHLF10? the V2 (Red Oone)

I Tryed to watch MKV with my Samsung LE40C650 but the tv don't like the NAS server and says the format is not supported, but the TV reads MKV natative. I read allot of threads that point to the NAS version, so i ask how can i solve this? should i try update the twonkymedia? nas version?

Also i can not REWIND or FORWARD.

Thanks

Buffalo:

------------

Link Station
LS-WX1.0TL/R1

Firmware version:
1.34
(DTCP-IP:1.40-20110204)

Media Server:
DTCP-IP function:Enabled(1.40-20110204)

Serial number: 1LSWXL11010****

TV:

----------

Samsung

Firware version:

T-VALDEUC-3009.2 2011/05/03-003009

Model: LE46C750

Problems:

1. Not working FastForward, Pause/Play, etc.

2. After upload lot of movies NOT working indexing. Do not see any new files and all files are showing random. For example Monday see movie which has been uploaded, but on Thu the file is missing.

Try to sort a problem for update firmware to latest version from

http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/

I selected near point Uk site. Downloaded and installed fresh version 1.54

Current version : 1.54

Current problem:

1. Not working DLNA at all. NO MEDIA SERVER.

If you login via WebAgent and select Extensions from top bar menu and MediaServer from bar below then .. you can see nothing.

It's meaning that you do not have any DLNA server at all. It's confirmed when you switch TV and DLNA not found.

If you left this cake for few days, if you are lucky then you can received update from background.

If you select the option agan then you received message request "please update DTCP-IP".

The menu showing now:

DLNA Server : Enabled

Automatic Update: Enabled

DTCP-IP: Disabled

and downloading update from far far away galactic ...

My internet link is 20Mb. If you expect any quick response then forget it.

I can not say that problem has been sorted because after 30 mins downlad process has not finished yet.

Aprox time to download 700MB movie is 15 mins on my link, so must be a HUGE firmware !!

( it is of course sarkazm, but showing how fast are support links from Buffalo site )

Conclusion:

We have a lot of solutions for home SAN/NAS drives with ethernet cards.

If you would like to use the drive to share video to watch on your TV then forget about the Buffalo.

You have to work as ITservice  to patch and patch devices instead spend time to watch movies and nobody proof that the devices start work as was designed and described on the manual.

IT waste a time and money  !!

This is alfa version of product which basic function, streaming video and indexing files not working as expected.

It was my worst decision, buy Buffalo.

An update for the Twonky media server is needed. Is there anyone from Buffalo reading this?

Same Issue - NO Rewind or Fast Forward for Linkstation CH 1.0.  I have 4 other devices all of which work.  The only one that doesn't is the Buffalo Device.

Anyone from Buffalo even care?

Change your tv for an LG. My LG 47LW650T will pause re/fast forward with the LS-CHL V2. Can't be a linkstation problem.

it's a twonky issue on linkstation, were on version 5, apparently version 6 sorts it all out, supposedly we'll get a firmware release with twonly 6, but no dates given :-(

seriously, can you at least give us the option of a firmware enabled so we can update twonky ourselves, i know it inavalidates the warranty but frankly i don't care or at least keep your customers updated on upcoming updates

I am having the same problem on my Samsung LED 5500 series.

The FF, RW and Subtitles does not work.

I believe the DLNA media server on Buffallo need to be updated.

It's sad to see that after so many weeks and we still heard nothing back from Buffalo. :-(

to help, we need exact LS model, and FW you are using, and whether you have updated the DTCP.

For those not mentioning the Samsung model, please provide that as well, and whether your network is wired, wireless, or combo.

I'd like to chime in with problems viewing a number of file types on my Samsung UN40D6420UF television using the DLNA server on my Linkstation.  If I have the same files on a thumb drive connected to the television, everything works fine.

I have a Linkstation Duo LS-WXL on a wired network, the TV is wired also.

I have updated the DTCP and firmware:

Firmware version:1.56
(DTCP-IP:1.40-20110204)

I'm only able to view .VOB files, and even then I can't fast forward etc.

I can't view .M4V or .MKV video files AT ALL via DLNA.  I have similar problems with this Linkstation when I try to view the same file types using a DLNA client software on my PC, just to prove it's not the Samsung TV's fault.

I have not tried updating Twonky or rolling back the firmware, since from what I've read on these forums this is obviously an issue on Buffalo's side and I'd like them to support their product and JUST FIX IT.  I can't return the device since I only discovered this problem after purchasing the TV (I wasn't using DLNA before then) and I've had the drive for several months already. This is my second Buffalo product, but it will definitely be my last given their failure to support their products and customers in  a timely manner.

: Re: DLNA support for Linkstation & Samsung TV - Rewind and FF Don't Work
: migzy March 03, 2012, 02:07:18 PM

the mkv playback gets fixed in townky 6, but until buffalo release a new firmware update with the latest version of twonky then there's nothing we can do. With other NAS manufacturers your're given the option of actually upgrading things like twonky, but bufallo have locked this down, obviously leading to a bit of frustration with users. Once my NAS packs up I may make the decision to go elsewhere as there are plenty of options.

Buffalo are going to loose a lot of customers if they keep to the strick policy, I know it can make support easier, but at least give users the options.

for ever in hope

Hi I have a Samsung UE55D8000 and an LS-QV4.0TL/R5 with firmware updated to 1.56 & DTCP-IP Enabled(1.40-20110204). The TV and NAS are hard wired through a gigabit router.

This is my first experience trying to setup a DLNA media server so have been experimenting with software to rip a dvd into a good quality format for the screen size. Using winxdvd I have found that if I rip to an avi file and store on the NAS I can use the cursor arrows on the Samsung remote to fast forward and rewind the film. However if I save the same film in an mpeg2 format I lose this functionality, is this the tv or the nas?

Not sure if its a completely separate issue (maybe down to how I am ripping a dvd) but I am unable to view 'forced subtitles' I have to have them completely on or completely off?

I have a Samsung UE40C6800 and just bought the LS-X2.0TL (Firmware 1.57).

m4v streams fine, other video formats (mp4 among them) not AT ALL. I can see all the files but not play them. Streaming went well entirely when using a Fritz!Box Media Server. Very annoying!

WilliamS.... The Cloudstor does not support streaming to your TV. You cannot open any files. The Cloudstor can only stream content to a PS3 or an Xbox 360. It will not work with your TV at all because this unit does not have DLNA support.

The June update will not help for cloudstation, since cloudstation does not have an installed twonky server. It uses a different streaming media server, which according to manual and product package is DLNA certified too.

One possible solution would be to root your cloudstation using acp_commander tool and manually install an addtional twonky server.

MVIX makes some very good products with MKV support as well as other types of files.  They are more tailored toward the streaming media end of the market rather than just storage.

: Re: DLNA support for Linkstation & Samsung TV
: oi_son May 20, 2012, 07:17:27 PM

Hi Everyone

I am new to the forum and new to a NAS. I have recently purcahsed a Buffalo LS-QVL.

I am also unable to play MKV files on my Samsung TV with an error showing "No Supprted File Format". I also cannot Fast Forward, Rewind or Pause any movies that I am watching from the NAS. Another thing is that the movies do not resume if you close and re-open them. These functions all work ok when the files are placed on a USB storage device and that is plugged into the TV.

Here is my setup for Buffalo to take note of.

Samsung TV - PS58C7000 (Australian Model)

Samsung TV Firmware - T-VALEUC-3011.0

NAS - Buffalo Linkstation (LS-QVL/E-AP) - 4x 2TB Sumsung Barracuda HDD

NAS Firmware - 1.58

All my devices are plugged into my network with cables and not wireless.

Are these issue going to be resolved with the June firmware update with a newer version of Twonky? If it isnt then I will go out and buy a WD TV Live box and plug that in as well. I was hoping not to spend much more money on this as I thought the NAS would be able to do the same functions as simply plugging in a USB HDD.

I have read several forums about this over the weekend. I found there is a way to hack the Samsung TV with SamyGo however I have the latest firmware for my Samsung TV and it only works with older firmwares. From what I have gathered the hack allows you to make the TV think that the NAS is a Samba share which will allow MKV files to be played just like they work on the USB drives. This sounds good but I would like to see if this can be resolved at a NAS level before hacking into my TV. I also read that the Samsung TV does not supprt MKV files over DLNA. But with Twonky on the NAS I suppose it is the NAS that is playing the file and not the TV.. correct?

Another thing. When I turn my TV on it does not start the NAS automatically. But when I turn my PC on the NAS starts up no worries. Is this because I have the NASNavigator2 software installed on my PC? It would be good if I turned the TV on and the NAS woke up.

I hope this is enough information?? If not please let me know what else you need.

I look forward to your reply.

Regards

Jason

Twonky is NOT a player-software ! It is ONLY a streaming software.  Reads the bytes and sends the bytes to a device which has to be able to play this kind of format.

Yes, NasNavigator does the wakeup.  No device with NasNavigator (or any other tool sending UDP packets on port 9 to NAS device) no wakeup.

Thanks for your reply 'axe'.

So can I be sure that the new version of Twonky will let me play MKVs on my TV?

This is a copy from the Samsung DLNA guide I found..

Samsung DLNA Guide

"Compatible files:

DLNA-supported file types and extensions are listed below.

Music – MP3 (.mp3)

Photos – JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)

Video – MPEG1 (.mpg, .mpeg) MPEG2 (.mpg, .mpeg, .trp, .ts, .tp) DIVX (.mpg, .mpeg, .avi) MPEG4 AVC (.mpg, .mpeg)"

Remember.. the TV plays MKV files over USB without any issues.

MKV is not listed for DLNA...

http://twonky.com/support/index.aspx

Why can't I get my Samsung TV to work with Twonky software?

First, confirm that your Samsung TV works with Twonky software. You can view a list of Samsung TVs that work with Twonky software here.

Samsung's 2009 TVs can be externally controlled without any changes to the settings. Samsung TVs from 2010 sometimes need to have the following settings changed before they can be controlled using Twonky software:

Use your Samsung handheld remote to navigate here: Menu > Application > Content View > AllShare and then press ENTER.
Make sure "Media" is set to "On" by pressing the ENTER key.
A warning may appear informing you that media sent from a mobile phone or other device will be displayed on your TV. Press "Allow" to allow media to be sent. Please refer to the User's Guide that came with your TV for more information on this.

back to questions

What formats can Twonky serve to external devices?

TwonkyManager and TwonkyServer can stream the following file formats:
Music: MP3, WMA, WAV, 3GP, M4A, MP4, LPCM, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, MP2, AC3, MPA, MP1, AIF
Photo: JPEG, PNG, TIF, BMP
Video: MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG2-TS, MPEG4, AVI, WMV, VOB, DivX, 3GP, VDR, ASF, MPE, DVR-MS, Xvid, M1V, M4V

Ergänzung:

MKV ist kein Videoformat sondern lediglich ein Containerformat.  Dadrin können sich unterschiedlich codierte Videos befinden!

Erläuterung des MKV Containerformats siehe

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matroska

D.h.   Ob der Samsung ein MKV abspielen kann ist vom Videoformat im MKV abhängig.  Deshalb wird im Samsung DLNA Guide MKV auch nicht genannt weil MKV kein Videoformat ist!

HI I was having the exact same issues with Samsung EU32ES5500 and linkstation live LS-X1.0TL-EU. Mkv files played ok from usb on TV but when streaming from NAS would see the files but report that video format not supported. After renaming the file extension to .TS from .MKV I can now play the files and it still works with  the Boxee Box connected to the other TV

Hello; I have the LS-WX4.0 (Link Station Duo 4TB). I have not rooted anything. I'm running the Twonky Media Server and using my Netgear NeoTV (NTV300SL). I'm able to play MKV's; AVI's; MP4's; FLV's, etc.  The problem I'm running in to is that I cannot get my .srt subtitles to play. They work on my PS3; but they do not work in VLC media player, windows media player, window 8 media player, x-box live player (on windows 8), or the Netgear NeoTV. I've read that in Twonky version 7 this issue has been fixed.

The problem is that I cannot update my version of Twonky server on my NAS station (at least without rooting it and voiding my warranty). So I'm wondering; is there a way that I can update to the latest version of Twonky on my NAS? if so; how would I go about doing this. (please note I do not want to void my warranty if I can avoid it). Also what version or download should I use when updating my Twonky Server.

Thanks for any help you can provide for me in advanced.
