Hello,
I got two WHR-G300N these days, 1.6 firmware, and I wanted to use those APs for my house, extending the coverage of my previous wireless gear. I dont understand why but when I put the same settings in both APs they look like they are trying to create two distinct wireless networks and not communicate between them. How can I set them up for extending the same wireless network?
Thanks
Thanks, but can I use one of the routers just as a client? If it can act as an access point it should be able to connect to another wireless device. Or not?
I also bought this router, hoping to do a similar job and have been unable to get it working. The box says it's a "Wireless Router, Access Point and Bridge", but I'm still wondering where the Bridge function is! If WDS isn't supported, how can this be a bridge? Will Buffalo be releasing Firmware which enables this functionality, or will they provide RMA for all 3 of the units I bought as they are not fit for the purpose for which the box advertises them? If anyone has any suggestions/answers I'd be pleased to hear them!
Regards
Will

Bridge mode, the problem is with the draft N and WDS, I will pass this up to our corporate office to see if they can upgrade the firmware on this unit. As for now the router will work as a wired bridge or a wireless access point.
So it'll work as a router, a layer 2 switch or an access point then... If you could get a response from corporate HQ I'd be grateful. I'll also put a support request in to see if that will get a response. Thanks for your help so far.

Hi, sorry I have really been busy these days.
I agree with Willot. I bought these items because I read "bridge" on the box and even if they are not so expensive, it's really not so useful to me without the wireless bridge function and by the way, how could a wired bridge be useful? I should use a network cable of 30 meters? :) Or buy a wireless bridge to link the wired bridges. ;)
Thanks for your help
Similarly, I agree with Willot & Euromax.
I bought two WHR-G300N because my supplier said they now no longer stocked the WHR-HP-G54 which I have used several times previously for AccessPoint and 'boosting' using another as a Wireless Bridge.
I do not believe my supplier even realised that this unit does not support WDS!
Unfortunately I will need to look for an alternative unit / other manufacturer? (to use with NTL / Virgin Media)
Does anyone know alternatives that are available please
Many thanks
just exactly how soon should we expect the WDS feature becomes available? i bought one of these model today and i tried to figure out how to bridge it with my other buffalo wireless router (obviously failed no matter how hard i tried) for hours before i decided to search the web for help... and now i know why it didn't work...
as the other users pointed out it doesn't make much sense to have a wired access point and we all bought this very model for its bridging ability (which to most people would mean connecting between wireless routers, not wired routers) and for whatever reason it is now absent from its functionality.
it would be nice if buffalo could give us an answer or at least a tentative schedule on when should or if such upgrade would at all be available in the near future.
an access point that requires wired bridge? isn't it the same as any REGULAR wireless router with proper configuration hooked up to any jack of a regular wired network??
honestly that's what it seems like to me and the use of the terms Access Point and Bridging was obviously misleading
It's not even said like that... it's "Wireless Router, Access Point and Bridge", so following on from the logic that it's a wired bridge, it's obviously a wired access point (wire to wire, no wireless involved, it's only the routing that's wireless... oh, wait, that's a bit strange) as well... a) what is one of those, b) what's the point.
I have put a request into Buffalo support for either firmware which support bridging functionality, or RMA authorisation for all 3 items so that I may return them to the supplier. I'll let you know of any response I get.
Response from Buffalo support:
"Yes the setup you oultline in your e-mail is possible however, it is not possible with these models of Buffalo router as the Wireless Bridging Functionality was not added to this model,
The model that you could use for the desired setup is WHR-G125"
Right, that's wonderful... why put it on the box then?! Have requested RMA to credit from them, and will see what I get back... it's taking them about 3-4 days to reply. Going to get the supplier to chase them as well, then go to Trading Standards types if I get nowhere that way.
Will let you know how I fair.

Is there an update to the possibility of using a WHR-G300N as a wireless bridge? I fall into the same camp of the other folks who purchased based on the phrasing of the product specs, but failed to accomplish what they were after, and then turned to the web.
I don't see anything on this page about WDS, but is this product expected to have that functionality? Because if it is, then that's what I really want. :)
Thanks.
My box doesn't say "Wireless Router, Access Point and Bridge", it says:
Wireless-N Nfiniti
Broadband Router, Access Point & Bridge
And I am very unhappy too with the marketing/sales for this product!
Will be returning mine tomorrow...
This is amazing... we can call it a bridge because users can connect two of them by using a wireline/cable.
Maybe Buffalo should create a new Wireline product category on their website and stick the WHR-G300N in there.
What pi$$e$ me off the most is that in 6 months of customer complaints on the subject, Buffalo has yet to change their packaging to prevent customers from being misled. I bought mine today (February 17th 2009) and am suffering the same problem as everyone on this thread.
Suggestions to the Buffalo MODs on this forum: please have the decency to at least apologize on behalf of your company for the boo-boo that is this situation... the wireline bridge response is a load of c#$p and you know that.
First and LAST Buffalo-tech product I will ever buy.
I bought my 1st wireless AP since the 90s. From the first one to this last one, I am a loyal Buffalo fans..
However, I just found out my new WHR-G300N does not support WDS...
I am really disappointed and this will be my last product from buffalo
I never understand why you can miss out something so important for a Router/Wireless AirStation, which is totally ridiculous
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_bridge
I don't mean to nitpick, but the term "network bridge" simply means a device that connects two segments of a network. When the device is in Bridge Mode ( router switch is "Off" ), the routing functions and dhcp server are disabled, and the device will act as a bridge between the wireless access point on the device to a wired network that it's connected to. This is typically used in business networks to add a wireless portion to an existing wired network. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Colin, clearly you're right and it's a statistical anomoly with no explanation the number of folks who have posted in this thread after they took to the internet to figure out why their network bridge didn't work the way the expected when they purchased it. I'm at a complete loss as to why these folks would have the audacity to show up in this thread and act upset!
I wonder if you have actually seen the box and the way the product title is written?! The product title is given as Broadband Router, Access Point and Bridge, with "Wireless N-Finiti" written above the whole of that... if that is not misleading, I don't know what is!
I'm at a complete loss as to why you have the audacity to show up in this thread and make comments such as that when it obviously does not concern you. If you have useful knowledge to pass on regarding the router, I would be happy to hear it, otherwise, why post?!
