Hello all,I have issue on my ITB buffalo ext HD, i can see the blue light on the HD when connected to my laptop then green, but i can't access it since i the HD can't be seen in the "My computer" list of drive.
I hear a tiny noise everytime I connect it but just for few seconds.... then silence.Thanks a lot for your help,

whats the model number, does it appear in disk management or device mananger? Have you tested it with a different cable and PC?
I can't see it in disk management or device mananger. Yes I've tried it with 2 different PC.
I just see that ther is a yellow cross on the usb mass storage hub on device mananger.

Is your computer USB 3 compatible and if so, do you have the USB3 drivers installed?
No it's not a USB3. But I've never had any trouble before...
Do you think that the hard drive is broken? I am worried about that though I don't hear any continu noise, except the short one when I plug it just for 2 sec.
Code 10 is a driver issue. test the HDD with a different USB 2 or USB 3 cable.

Does it sound like it's powering up and then powering down again? If it is then it sounds like the hard drive has failed.
I will try to find another cable tomorrow.
The sound is continue with the same strenght but faint (it's like: ta-ta-ta-ta-ta) for 3 secondes, then nothing.
If the hard drive's failed, what's the solution for that?

Does not sound like the hard drive is powering down, so the hard drive seems to be alright. So it does look like there is a USB issue, either with the cable or with your USB drivers.
I've bought a new cable USB3 and try another PC but the problem is the same...

Looks and sounds like a hard drive failure as it sounds like the drive heads are constantly moving from one end to the other. The only other thing to try is when you are able to initialize select "GPT" and not "MBR" as the MBR is only used if you are booting from the drive.
I've tried unfortunately both the GPT and MBR, nothing happend.

The solution is a new hard drive I'm affraid. As the hard drive is physically damaged the only way to recover your data is to send it off to a data recovery company, but these are very expensive.
