Hard Drive Fault
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:02:04 AM »

3 Terabyte TeraStation HS-DHTGL/R5 1.10

Installed disc 4 off ST3750640AS

Hello

My Terastation gives the message that there is a fault in the RAID array
and the front panel display declares disc 3 faulty (E23).  I think a power trip may have upset it

Question 1

Is there a diagnostic routine to check the specific disc and reveal what is wrong and if it definitely needs replacing

Question 2

If it does need replacing what is the required spec for the 750 MB disc as an
exact replacement seems hard to source in the UK.

Question 3

From your experience what is the expected MTBF for the discs if spun up 24/7.

Hoping someone can help

It may not be faulty. You can log into the interface of the unit, go to disk management, RAID setup, click on your RAID array and choose rebuild RAID array. This can take a couple of hours and your data should be safe. After that is done you could run a disk check. If the RAID array rebuild fails, then you know its a bad drive. The specs of the hard drive just have to be at least the same size or larger and the same rpm speed as the other drives.
