TeraStation won't recognize 3TB USB Drive
« on: July 18, 2012, 02:37:30 PM »

My TeraStation (model HD-H1.0TGL/R5, firmware 1.12) won't recognize the new WD MyBook 3TB USB drive I just attached. Actually, some of the TeraStation utilities *do* recignize that the drive is there, but others don't. For example, it allows me to format the drive as XFS but then reports the wrong disk size, and Win 7 doesn't recognize it as attached. FWIW, the format process took about 20 seconds.

I successfully added another USB drive about a year ago (a Seagate 1.5TB unit), so the pocess does work. But this new drive seems to be more troublesome. Any ideas?

Details:

TeraStation / Disk Management / USB Settings reports the two USB drives thus:

USB disk 1   Desktop            1397.1 GB

USB disk 2   My Book 1140   746.4 GB  <--- this capacity is wrong

TeraStation / Disk Management provides these details:

USB Disk 2  Manufacturer    Western Digital

                       Model Name    My Book 1140

                       Unit Name        My Book 1140

Total Capacity  782,749,696 kbytes <-- incorrect

                       File Format       Not obtained

The other USB disk (USB disk 1) is correctly identified for capcity, maker, and XFS file system.

The USB HDD can only be a maximum of 2TB, anything bigger and it won't recognise it.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Update: Formatting the drive as EXT3 (instead of XFS) fixes many of the problems. Both the TeraStation and the Win 7 clients now recognize the disk and can read and write to it.

The only problem? The capacity is just 734.7 GB, not 3 TB. So only about one-quarter of the disk is visible. :-(  Is there some way to fix / overcome / hack this?
