And Finally it's out!
i'm using the 1.71 and it's very good, i can't wait to go abck home and update :)
my suggestion is to update the firmware as the instruction said and after that a complete reset of the router... [this is what i did to solve some problems i was experiencing].
:)
Ver1.72
[Specification change]
[Added feature]
[Bug fix]
Nice, gonna update soon.
Updated, working fine.
Where did you find this firmware. I went to the router download page and it does not show up.
I just purchased this router 1 hour ago from Amazon and will have it delivered tomorrow.
I spent a fair amount of time deciding whether to go with this model............I have had problems with other N+ routers which I returned them all.
I hope I do not end up getting "buffalod"! ;)
Bob
So far it's only on the EU site.
updated, 1.72... and i'm having again this problem:
i solved with the 1.71 ...
i just do another reset, formatted again the hdd, starting from scratch... and i'll see if i need to rollback again to the 1.71 :-/
quite disappointed now.
WRT Open Source firmware is out for this router.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
Folks very happy thus far......
If the euro firmware update doesn't solve problems I will go this route.
can you use bittorrent and nas functionality with DD WRT?
Yes.
Transmission Torrent Client: (Not included but you can install it.)
Also
Samba 3 for local network file sharing and ProFTP as a real FTP Server.
How stable is DD-WRT? I'm think it's a serious alternative but don't want to change incase it's not stable. Any user experience here?
reading the DD-WRT forum looks that it is better than the actual firmware.
and there's a huge news: you can install it like a normal firmware via the webgui.
i wait a couple of days to read some answers about the torrent client [transmissiond] and the samba share.
FW 1.72 is out on the USA download site
Received my wzr-hp-g300nh router today. Came with teh 1.6X firmware. Installed and configured in about 45 minutes. Have movie mode enabled. Did some testing and no problem thus far. Have one wireless N adapter connected at link speed 135mbs. have not tested usb drive yet. Upgraded to 1.72 firmware, currently testing.
can you do some tests with big torrents and see what happens?
i'm sure it won't work properly...
Been using dd-wrt build 13977 for roughly a week now and it's been extremely stable. Havn't had time from the exams to test bt function but shouldn't be too big of a deal. It's easy to change as you can "upgrade" to dd-wrt from the buffalo webadmin without any problems. Recommend sofar as it's stable and has better features than buffalos firmware :)
13977 does not support transmission or samba, for now. [just read the dd-wrt forums]
so you risk to brick the router and you haven't the same feature.
the alternative is openwrt that looks that everything is working already.
but i think i'm gonna pass for now :)
Official dd-wrt support by Buffalo for wzr-hp-g300nh is coming in July. Really makes me happy.

JULY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
this is quite insane... should we keep a bugged router until july!?
i'm happy, but it's a TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long wait
That is fricken awesome. Can someone post how they installed the current version of DDR-WRT? I wan't to make sure that I put the right image on.
download the 13977 versione from the site. upload it as a normal official release, wait 6 minutes and you're done. easy as hell.
i don't suggest you to do it, anyway. you will lost nas and torrent functionality, and it looks like it as some speed problem [you can't get over 130mbit lan].
it's pretty stable, works fine by the way...
and remember: you can't go back. a lot of people bricked their router trying to go back to the official.
the solution is wait the new official firmware or a fully working dd-wrt one.
Currently, converting to DD-WRT will void your warranty as this is a non-Buffalotech firmware.
Will those owners who purchased the WZR HP G300NH before June/July be able to update to the DD-WRT and stay within warranty after it becomes available from Buffalo on this device?
BigDawg
Buffalo Technology (upper management, not me) is working on the answer to that very question, as the new FW will be the result of the joint venture between DD-WRT and Buffalo Technology.
I for one vote yes I just purchased this router from Newegg just before this was announced. Do you know if Buffalo is changing anything hardware wise in the WZR-HP G300NH DD-WRT release of the Product line? If not we as early adopters of these devices should be able to upgrade as long as we follow detail info on doing so released from Buffalo itself.
BigDawg
I know our votes don't count. But never hurts to ask.

...
Of cause you can: see http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=410298#410298 - note that you must be registered there to see the file. I installed the current (13977) ddwrt build from the official fw web interface, played with it and flushed back (again in the web intf) with the official fw. The image provided there is 1.65 so you'll have to upgrade it to 1.72 if you want the newer version.
yeah, i know.
but that procedure is a roulette.
;)
BigDawg - the hardware should remain the same as long as it has the same part number and hardware revision.
Well if you guys need beta testers for the DD-WRT Buffalo style :) I would be happy to do so.
BigDawg
I'm Ready to buy the WZR HP G300NH from newegg - Should I hold out to
see if there going to be a HW Change for the new firmware
Before you buy you may want find out if this is true from the guys here at Buffalo. This is a quote from lolcatz over at DD-WRT forums .........."I was told by the representative that the upcoming DD-WRT firmware support includes a hardware revision by buffalo, and that current routers are not guaranteed to work with DD-WRT, and that actually you lose your factory warranty if you try to upgrade your router with any DD-WRT firmware. " Can any of the guys with Buffalo confirm this? If it is..... those that definitly want DD-WRT, may want to wait for the July release of this router.
BigDawg
EDIT: In order to stop this rumor, I just want to be sure everyone reads the next post by Memoryman Thanks for the definitive answer on this.
We do not plan on changing the hardware on the WZR-HP-G300NH, any time soon. There is a little misinformation going around. We're trying to find the exact source of the info, and correct it.
Hmm.. currently I can't connect to my ISP (comcast cable modem) because it has challenges detecting DHCP server. So bugged is putting it mildly, it's more like unusable.
So now I have to wait till July to make this piece of hardware possible functional again?
Sorry, just a little frustrated in wasting a lot of time and energy in trying to make this all work and not getting any step further..
connecting to dhcp is not one of the bugs - you need to call support - they can help with a dhcp issue
Thanks, I was able to work around the DHCP problem, by using the settings from my laptop (when plugged in to cable modem) and manually applying them to the Air Station. (and put the router switch on the back to on).
Not detecting the DHCP server isn't a bug? How so and why is there a thread deticated to this very problem with no soulution other than a workaround of manually inputting the IP settings?
http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Wireless/WZR-HP-300NH-does-not-auto-detect-ISP/td-p/28535/page/2
This is a black eye on the firmware as far as I'm concerned. I can reset my modem and plug my linksys in and it gets the IP almost instantly. Likewise, I can reset again and plug my laptop in and viola, laptop online. It's not a matter of the modem having handed it's lease out after the modem is reset. I've even had the buffalo router get an address (after long waits), but the router drops it's connection randomly and can't get the IP settings again without manual intervention.
Comcast can't help this problem, because it's not their fault.
I received my unit a few days ago and have the exact same problem - my G300NH, regardless of firmware (and I can't flash to DD-WRT because I have the AO A3 version), will not reliably get an address from Comcast. Moreover, as others have experienced, I can after numerous power cycles get a DHCP address, but it's lost at the next DHCP lease renewal. I have also copied the gateway and DNS addresses and set the button to "router". I have a high level of technical expertise.
From what I read on other forums, the method used by the G300NH to get it's address is incompatible with the method used by Comcast.
I have repeatedly verified, using other wireless routers (including a Buffalo g router), that the problem is the G300NH.
Further, as shown on the small net builder web site, the G300NH has an unstable signal even on a clear channel - it will drop all the way down to 1Mbs, then back up to 54Mbs, for example. The signal cut outs have not been fixed by the 1.72 firmware.
This product is defective and not suitable for sale. I'm going to RMA the unit in exchange for a different brand router.
A0-A3 works as of svn dd-wrt revision 14402, flash chip of the router was not detected before but with new build it works.
the stock firmware is still more stable than dd-wrt and offers more performance however.
FW 1.74 is now available on the USA download site.
Please keep the insults to a minimum - we appreciate the support, but insults turn off a lot of forum readers who are looking for help.
Is there a list of changes/Fixes that are in this new version
I've just reflashed into latest 1.74, but..... it's still have issue to automatically detect IP from DHCP server.
Maybe smb had resolved this issue??? It makes me so mad, cause the second Wifi router from buffalo has the same problem.
Whats wrong, why changelist from new firmware has these lines:
[Bug fix]
DR:
A lot of us only bought this hardware based on Amazon reviews that said that it's *really* good hardware that can be flashed to really good open source software . . . so far, I have to say, I'm not impressed.
Buffalo was on my radar for other hardware solutions (not implemented as I wanted them, so I passed them over) . . . but well thought of enough by true techies that it wasn't crossed off my list.
The DD-WRT native software is really what's drawing a lot of us in, not the firmware that won't recognize (A3 as I recall and what's sitting on my desktop as a very nice looking paperweight) a very easy flash to the new "stuff".
Seriously, I wouldn't worry about former customers as "trolls" as much as I would your support reps that were kind enough to comment on popular website reviews, giving you a second chance at gaining customers . . .
I guess my question is: when can we expect an "out of the box" excellent solution?
