G300NH + range
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:09:06 PM »

i recently bought this G300NH router but i'm disappointed with the range. it's the same as the d-link dir300 G router i used to have.

is there anything that i can change in the setup to increase the range.

my range with this router is poor too, i suspect it is to do with some issues with the firmware. or that my unit which is purchased in the uk is not really high power but rebranded or something.

I've bought mine in the UK and the range is great, be aware than the output power is slightly reduced when in 40mhz mode so trying 20mhz mode might increase the range a little.

Hello nismo-gtr

I just realized this post is quite old and you may have found an answer elsewhere, but ny two cents worth just in case.

One of the many advantages of the G300NH router using DD-WRT firmware is the ability to adjust the output power. These settings can be found under the wireless tab, then clicking the advanced setting checkbox. Not sure what the max is, but default seems to be 20dbm which translates to 100 mW. I am going to look in to this a bit further, but changing this to 23dbm will double the output power to almost 200 mW.

Also, supposedly anyway, the wirless N standard promises great range & speed, so if your wireless card supports it, try using that.

Good luck!

I never have any issues with out put. You could try ve3wva's suggestions or reset and flash the router if that doesnt work. My appartment is brick and I still get signal out about 200 feet.
