Linkstation Pro LS250GL died?
« on: November 06, 2008, 02:20:31 PM »

Hi

New to the forum

Have a LS 250 which I have had for over a year.Only used occasionally as a backup for our home PC's

Always worked well - switched on yesterday couldn't access it although there was an IP address allocated by the router and couldn't acces the interface.

Tried again today - still the same - noticed that it had gone into EM mode

Downloaded firmware updater - allowed to update (I have updated loads of firmaware and never had a failure until now)this failed - now the Linkstation just beeps and flashes error continuously. The updater says thre is no drive to update

Tried using reset but no different

Have I lost all my backups ? Is it dead ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the unit is out of warranty I would pull the fan out and replace it with one from a local PC shop.  If the unit is in warranty then set up an RMA.

Hi Steve

never did get the Linkstation to work again - Buffalo tech never sent a RMA as promised so I dismantled it and fitted a new fan - still wouldn't work.

In the end I removed the hard drive then copied all the software to my PC - this took a long time and you need to have a knowledge of Linux

I like Buffalo stuff but this was a real letdown and support was really poor in my case

Fiesata, Do you have an RMA number so I can check what happened to your RMA?

Getting the fan out is abit difficult. BEst thing is to remove the back plastic plate follow by the unscrewing of the two screws tighten the metal cast to the side plate.

Have you tried using abit of WD40 on the fan?

I've tried it couple of times and it started spinning.

But sometimes might not be the fan. I've experienced changing the fan but to same problems.

So what i did was solving it by TFTP and it worked!
