add 2nd drive keep drive 1 data LS-WXL/1D

Hi a while back i bought a linkstation duo LS-WXL/1D 

Firmware version: 1.37
(DTCP-IP:1.40-20110204)
and has been working fine i now want to add a 2nd drive in the empty bay but i do not want to lose the info on drive 1.  When i log into the websettings for my system and go to system/storage the status of my drive is normal.  i want the settings of the drive both to be normal so they are accessable as seperate drives, so am i safe to insert the 2nd drive and just format drive2 and drive 1 data would stay intact? any info would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Yeah that should be fine. Just don't create a RAID or they will both be wiped. They can work independently.
