: Mac OS X 10.6 incompatible with HDS-PH160U2-US
: LinTech October 22, 2009, 08:39:26 PM

I have repeatedly attempted to install the Secure Disk Tool onto the system and it just adds a broken shortcut to the desktop which does not link to anything in the system.

The downloads located at:

http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/

for the HDS-PHU2 are almost 1 year old with no updates for Snow Leopard.

Is there a software update coming for this or do I need to return the hardware for something compatible with my operating system?

Our Japan engineers tell me that compatibility for Snow Leopard 10.6 and Secure Disc Tool is on their schedule for updating, but won't give me a timeline for completion date.

I looked into the installer package and found part of the problem.

The Secure Disk Tool relies on Rosetta which isn't installed by default in Snow Leopard. The kexts are also only available up through 10.5 so there is no way for this to work in 10.6 without an update.

I hope the release is available soon.

Any update on a timeline for a fix please?

I'm still asking for a timetable or deadline.

This sucks! :(

I have a lot of files to transfer over from my PC to MAC.  There is still not a fix?

I have an HDS-PH320U2-US and it just dawned on me last night when I upgraded to Snow 10.6.3 that I wont be getting my data after all.

If I we can get a timeline on the release date for this fix, that would be great!

Is this still being worked on and if so is there a timetable for a fix yet?

Any news from Japan yet?

Any chance of asking Japan how they are getting on with fixing this problem? Its been over a year now and I am still unable to use the disk for its intended purpose.

I'm having the same issue and since it has been a year or more delay on the upgrade, I'm assuming "Japan" is busy. I will be buying a new hard drive today and you can be assured it will not be this brand. I will make sure my contacts know about this lack of customer service.

Note to support - It is nearly a year since my first post on this thread after I purchased the drive for my wifes birthday to use on her mac. This year she has asked for another encrypted USB HDD to use on her mac as she has been a bit disappointed with the old one on account that we have been waiting for a year for an update from "japan" to make it work with OS X 10.6. Personally I think she should just be a bit more patient but if not I thought I would buty her a Buffalo HD-CXT1.0TU2-EU this year, another Buffalo USB hard drive that is also fully compatible with mac. Before I go ahead and buy the new one, any news on the update please? Thanks in advance from a loyal Buffalo customer.

Yes, I too own 4 of these fabulous little drives that I am grieving losing when I upgrade to 10.6.  I am disappointed with Buffalo's choice to ignore my needs and the many others who invested in their company and product.  I hope Buffalo will make this right soon.  I would like to remain a loyal customer, but to be honest it's very difficult when they do not adequately support their products.

Tech support - This must be one heck of a problem, any update on a fix please? Will the fix for Snow Leopard also work with Lion or should I stay on Snow Leopard while I wait for a fix?

Thanks in advance

I accidentally found a simple work-around (don't ask how)...if you have a virtual Windows program (like VMWare), open it, login to Drive, then toggle back to OS Snow Leopard.  Miraculously, it was there on my iMac desktop open.  It appears that you can access the drive in XP and it stays mounted.  Hope it works for you...obviously it is not a seamless bridge, but easier than transferring toanother drive, etc.

I'm as far from a computer geek as they come.  I literally was just logging into my drive via VMWare to see if data had been lost...dumb luck.

Thanks archihaus, I'll give that a try

Can any-one confirm whether this will work with OSX Mountain Lion?
