Product name : LS-CH1.0TL-V2
I bought LS few weeks before and update firmware few days before and after update bittorent stopped working says downloading but didn't connects to any peer, tried different torrent but no peers, for checking tired same torrent on my pc client works fine.
I noticed in my LS utorrent logs says "[23:48:25] JS error: [778] Unable to get value of the property '262': object is null or undefined?"
I think it is the reason its unable to connect support person please solve this problem.
I would try resetting the unit through the interface to see if that resolves the issue. Go to system, then restore/erase and choose restore linkstation. This will not delete any data.
Tried 2 times and after that bittorrent worked as per thread but webacess not working !
I am having the same problems. I tried resetting twice but still getting the same error.
I've reset mine three times, tried many ports (not that it matters - routed traffic on the network will give great speed on a PC on the same connection if the port forwarding is changed), forcably reloaded the firmware and STILL I get poor performance.
how is that solved?!?!!
Try restoring the web interface through the system, then restore/erase tab. Choose the restore linkstation button. This will not delete any of the data.
I have done that a few times. I have forcably uploaded the firmware. I have turned it off and on again and off and on again. Last night I had a utorrent running on a laptop with the same ports forwarded and was getting 950kbs average for the same torrents the Linkstation is trying to download.
The Linkstation was getting 10kbps when I moved the port forwarding back. From reading other forums this fault is common but people are quick to blame the ISP, it's just not the case here.
The network is fine, the ISP is fine, the NAS is dire.
This is a massive problem with the unit and all testing narrows the problem down to the unit and its firmware. When is the next firmware due out?
It's a shame I can't bill Buffalo for hours spent trying to workaround an inherent fault with the unit, I could quit my day job.
I re-initialized the bit torrent extension yet again and to my surprise it jumped to 600kbps! a nice reward for having to redownload all the active torrents.
then after 2 minutes it's now back at 10kbps.
once again this piece of technology raises my hopes jubilantly and dashes them expertly once more.
tested again using torrent client on a laptop on the network to see if the ISP has stopped the port...nope.
for goodness sake...
I'd like a response please.
It's clear from the other threads poor BT performance is a known problem.
update required please.
I just bought a LinkStation LS-VL 3Tb (firmware 1.54) and the bittorrent is not working either.
Took a while to get the NAS working on the network because my DLink DHCP was giving it an IP address that was on a different subnet from the rest of my computers on the wireless network. Hand to manually assign a static IP for it to work.
Now if I keep reseting the NAS in order to try to get the bittorrent to work, wouldn't it reset the DHCP option to automatically get an IP address on a different subnet?
That's my problem of not wanting to keep reseting the NAS.
What is causing this "Cannot read property '262' of null" error anyway?
We need to get to the root of that instead of just resetting and pray.
Product: LS-XL 2.0 TB
Firmware 1.55
I have exactly the same problem. Just bought the thing, everything works fine. First days Bittorrent worked great, very very fast. But now it says in the log everytime:
19:47:34] JS error: [778] Kan de waarde van de eigenschap 262 niet ophalen: het object is null of niet gedefinieerd
(it is dutch, but the same error as everyone.)
Tried restore, restart, power off. Nothing helps.....
Buffalo: Pls. help.
I just got the same error message, tried ressetting and initiallizing but nothing!
Any other suggestions???
I bought this NAS under the impression it was good but so far not too impressed and now this packs up.
Come on Buffalo get it fixed!!
I've got the same problem !
Please someone sort this out or maybe advise to go back to previous firmware?
I bought your LS-XHL...
I've tried resetting and same "Unable to get value of the property '262'"
Surfmk.
Try stopping and then re-starting the torrent application. That fixed the display problem for me.
_____________
I have tried restoring the nas and resetting all the settings i can find and nothing.
I have even tried restting the router and laptop but nothing works.
Buffalo tech don't respond to any e-mails and phoning them is hopless.
I think this is the last Buffalo product i buy as it is prooving to be a complete waste of money and time!
Same problem of uTorrent not starting.
JS Error : [778] unable to get value of the property '262' : object is null or undefined
Tried : restore -- no luck , power off restart -- no luck ,
Force firmware update :
change LSUpdater.ini with [Flags] version check = 0
changed LSUpdater linkstatiion_version.ini with dates changed under
INITRD=2011/12/09 16:10:41 to newer date
ROOTFS=2011/12/09 17:10:36 to newer date
Firmware started and completed successfully
System restarted
Problem remained same as before i.e. Still "JS Error : [778] unable to get value of the property '262' : object is null or undefined"
RAID remained OK , no loss in data , BT setup still "Enable" instead of "Disable"
Need to have a immediate firmware to overwrite uTorrent complete setup to recover the error in javascript.
Add me to the list of frustrated users with the Cannot read property '262' of null issue, although mine was introduced at an earlier patch.
Resetting to factory default fixes nothing.
Also, this an issue with the uTorrent web gui
Finally I have no problem using torrents with a normal client on my windows machine, it is just my linkstation that has the issue, although it used to work great.
Come on Buffalo, this has been going on for months. Take care of it for once and all.
Add me too.
I have 3 2tb linkstations and none of them work.
Resetting them each time I want to use this function is not the answer.
It’s like buying an all in one printer scanner fax and finding the scanner doesn’t work not.
Come on Buffalo Sort this out please, my faith in you is fast running out!
Oh and please could you reply to at least let us know you are real.
Upgraded my firmware to 1.60 from 1.54 (or 1.56 cannot remember) and as a result Bittorrent completely stopped working.
SAme problem as others seem to have JS error: [778] Unable to get value of the property '262': object is null or undefined?"
Have reset the LS, restarted, power down up etc, etc
Is there a possibility to back the firmware to the previous again in some way.
Kind of **bleep**ty that it works like this and others seem to have reported this earlier but nothing seem to happen.
Anyone with some solution to this other than the round bin?
Had exactly the same problem today after updating to firmware 1.60. I then found out that it is only magnet links that don´t work - torrent files still work OK. I went back to version 1.56 by forcing it to downgrade but still got the same problem. So maybe it is not due to the 1.60 firmware.
I remember that magnet links originally didn´t work in the Buffalo bittorrent. Then it suddenly started to work beginning of March without any upgrade! Another user, steveianson noted the same at the same time here:
http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/torrent-client-not-work-with-magnet-link/td-p/93132/page/2
Maybe there is some external function that via Buffalo website converts magnet links to torrent files and that has stopped working. For me magnet links worked day before yesterday but not this morning.
Bit torrent working fine on my Linkstation LS-CHL V2 Firmware 1.60. See below link:
Davo, does it work with magnet links also or only with torrent files?
Only .torrent files that ive saved to my desktop im afraid
Hallo, I've got same problem, after upgrade to 1.60 BT not work. I've tried restore my link station, but no result...
Does anyone know eny solution???
Thank you Pavel??
edit: torent file work normal, but magnetlink does not work
Linkstation Live on firmware 1.60 here. Experiencing the same problem. Same error message reported in log files. Seems to only affect magnet links. Torrents still work fine. I have a Linkstation Live on version 1.57 in a different geographical location which is also doing the same. Other NAS drives on location by Synology and QNAP are unaffected, as previously stated, this seems to be something related to how Buffalo converts and processes the magnet links. No changes to either device. Was working fine two days ago then just suddenly stopped working. Issue still not resolved.
Hey all, just wanted to throw my hat in here - same issue as everyone else as of 2 days ago. Magnets have been working for months previously with no changes to the device or config. I have tried reinitializing bittorrent settings with no luck. Error in the logs is:
[08:49:50] JS error: [778] Unable to get value of the property '262': object is null or undefined
Only seems to affect magnet links - torrents seem to still be fine. Is anyone else currently able to get magnet links to work through the uTorrent WebUI? Just wondering at this stage if this is something specific to the Buffalo NAS drives or something related to the uTorrent WebUI. When I try the uTorrent client from a desktop PC on the network it downloads magnets just fine.
Cheers,
Bobbo
Following on from my previous post - I have configured a test desktop machine running uTorrent WebUI v0.370 from the PC itself - unsure if this is the version still in use by the Buffalo devices. uTorrent WebUI v0.370 was able to successfully download a file via magnet link, so this appears to be something specific to the Buffalo version of the uTorrent WebUI.
I have investigated this issue for many hours now. It seems like that DHT (Distributed Hash Table) network doesn´t work despite it is activated and magnet links need to include trackers that actively tracks the file to work. Magnet links from e.g. the Pirate Bay using the four standard trackers do not work anymore despite they worked great with Linkstation a few days ago. They still works with µTorrent on my computer, even without any trackers.
The problem in Linkstation may be due to that a parameter is not initialized by the software at start so it has a random value depending on the exact system state. The java script error message in the bittorrent log: JS error: [778] Unable to get value of the property '262': object is null or undefined?" also indicates that. From other posts in this thread it seems like the problem usally appears after firmware upgrade. However, the problem persists if one reverts back to old firmwares (I have tested 1.52, 1.56 and 1.58). I have of course also tried to reset the Linkstation and bittorrent to factory default and restarted both the Linkstation and my router. I really hope Buffalo reads this thread and fix this problem.
A temporary workaround is to include relevant trackers in the tracker list, either directly in the magnet link or by rightclicking on the torrent file in the download manager and selecting "properties". I just paste a long list of common trackers that I found in various torrent files and normally one of them tracks the file one wants to download. One can alternatively try to find a torrent file instead of a magnet link for the file that one wants to download by searching in e.g. Google on the hash value of the file. The hash value can be seen in the "General" tab when highlightning the torrent in the download manager.
Hallo everybody,
the soloution is here: http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=22891&sid=994e98e71b96d5781b9c5a6e3d7e7db1&start=0
everithink work fine...
god luck :-))
Finally, I have got magnet links to work again, including DHT network!! I completely disabled the firewall on my router. I have previously forwarded all relevant ports for both http and udp traffic and activated UPnP to be sure everything was OK but apparently it was not enough. The strange thing is that everything works now even when I activate the firewall again. Maybe the UPnP function was reinitialized when I turned on and off the firewall or something. To make sure DHT works again, I used a magnet link with just the hash value (i.e. without any file name or trackers) and it works fine.
I am currently on firmware 1.58 but I think the same trick will work on firmware 1.60.
I was a bit too enthusiastic too soon. Although I the DHT network now works reliable with some magnet links, it still doesn´t work with other magnet links. It is difficult to pinpoint this problem. Maybe installation of the Transmission client is the only way to get a reliable bittorrent client....
DickeFix, thanks for your additional work and clarification on this - hoping for some feedback from Buffalo on this one soon - I've spoken with several colleagues who purchased Buffalo NAS drives on my recommendation who are all currently experiencing the same problem, so this seems to be a global issue.
I tried your recommendations my end involving DHT but still couldn't get magnets to start, additionally I tried right clicking the file after adding and going to properties, however the full list of trackers was already present for me, each separated by a blank line. I tried to clear and re-enter this but the issue was still present.
I can confirm your suggestion of using Google or similar to search for the hash value to download the matching .torrent file works fine, good thinking there! Hoping Buffalo can come back with something though as it kind of defeats the purpose of supporting magnet links. :-)
Cheers,
Bobbo
Bobbo, yes lets hope that the problem is widespread enough so Buffalo takes it seriously. It is a consolation that one is not alone and hopefully someone finally solves the mystery.
Note that I add additional trackers to the existing list of trackers of nonworking torrents. In fact I add a long standard list of 30+ trackers that I have collected from working torrent files. Normally at least one tracker is active for the file in question and the download starts.
The strange thing is that once a magnet link starts to work by using additional trackers, it continues to do so next time it is downloaded, this time without the need of any trackers at all! I tried it on several magnet links and they continue to function second time despite I erased both the original torrent and the downloaded data. Maybe there is some cache that remembers the seeders and peers of a magnet link even after the torrent and data are erased. Very strange!
I can confirm I have the same issue. Tried everything that was posted on this thread o fix the problem, but nothing worked. The only solution, as DickeFix wrote, is to download the. torrent file after googling the hash.
Hi,
I'm suffering from the same problem as everyone else in this thread.
So far I tried:
Still no success. My torrent webui still shows 0 peers and 0 clients and the log tab shows the "cannot read ....." message.
I have not jailbroken the device and rebuild the firmware using other setups but that will most likely not happen either. I hate tinkering around in those black-screen "ui's" :-)
This seems to be a very common problem and I am surprised that there are no comments on this subject from Buffalo themselves?
Come on now, you can do better than this..!
I have exactly the same problem. It's a real nuisance. Downloaded torrents work, but magnets don't.
Thanks to all of you who report the problem; hopefully it motivates Buffalo to solve it quickly. However, it would also be nice to hear from people who don´t experience problems with Linkstation and magnet links to pinpoint the problem. Does the magnet link problem affect everyone or only those who upgraded to firmware 1.60? I had no problems with firmware 1.56 but now it doesn´t work. I even downgraded to firmware 1.41 and still got the same problem. Maybe the bittorent client setup got corrupted when it was upgraded to 1.60 and neither resetting nor downgrading helps? Or maybe the cause is partly external?
With some very rare exceptions, magnet links from The Pirate Bay now fails to start without additional http trackers. This implies - if I understood things correctly - that the µTorrent client in the Linkstation can neither communicate with the four udp trackers that are included in the TPB magnet links, nor with the site router.utorrent.com (or router.bittorrent.com) that µTorrent connects to in order bootstrap DHT networking if no working trackers are present. One of these problems may of course have existed before without anyone noticing it. Anyway, it is interesting to note that a magnet link for a file that recently been downloaded (and deleted) works second time without any trackers at all which indicates that it is only the DHT bootstrapping that has stopped working.
I can confirm that the problem started randomly a few days ago. I never upgraded the firmware - the box came with version 1.56. It worked flawlessly for a year then, just like that, it stopped working. After it happened I tried upadting to 1.60, but the problem did not disappear. I think it has nothing to do with the firmware, but rather a server component controlled by Buffalo, or even the format DHT works in.
Observation: magnet links DO work with normal files, i.e. linux distributions (try downloading OpenSuse, for example - it will work!). I have a bad feeling that the agent has been tampered with intentionally by Buffalo as a result of the recent heat TPB has been getting.
Thanks for that valuable information, itayd! Then we know for sure it is due to some external reason that probably can not be fixed without Buffalos help or by installing the Transmission client instead.
I have the same problem with openSUSE magnet links from TPB. Maybe the distribution you downloaded had a http tracker included or...?
Good news! Magnet links from TPB have started to work again, at least for me.
I pasted the following trackers in the properties of a magnet link to kickstart it:
http://tracker.torrentbox.com:2710/announce
http://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce
http://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
http://tracker.istole.it:6969/announce
http://tracker.ccc.de:80/announce
After that other magnet links at TPB started to magically work without the need of any extra trackers. Maybe this is a temporary fix due to caching of the DHT nodes. Or maybe it was just a coincidence and something was externally fixed.
I used the magnet from OpenSUSE's website. Can you see if it works for you from there?
I just wish it would work again without adding trackers or messing with links/configuration files
Magnet links from TPB now seem to be working without issues (FOR NOW).
For now, TPB still not work for me. To make it work, I have to insert those tracker links, as suggested by DikeFix, in the properties on one of the torrent; then stop other zero peers torrents in the queue and restart them.
itayd , How did yours suddenly start working as I am guessing you didnt make any further firmware updates etc?
I re-tried mine remotely and its still not working , but I am not able to reboot my NAS remotely , so perhaps a reboot will fix mine?
Has anybody else had theirs start to auto-magically start working
hi ssshonky,
Reboot and reset to factory default won't help in my case (1.6 fw).
I really dont want to stuff around with resetting to factory default , surely Buffalo will realise they have an issue and sent out another firmware update?
Thanks for your reply though.
itayd, I couldn´t find any magnet link on openSUSE, only a torrent file.
I guess you got the magnet links to work after adding the trackers from my previous post? Unfortunately it seems to be just a temporary fix. I found now that the problem reappears and magnet files stop working after some time. It also reappears if one restarts the bittorrent client by deactivating and activating it in the Linkstation settings. The reason that it works must be due to some temporary cache of DHT nodes on the Linkstation. Still it is good as a temporary fix since one only needs to add trackers to a single magnet link (by rightclicking on it, select properties, paste the trackers and then stop and restart the downloading). Then all magnet links that are downloaded afterwards work.
I also found that on my NAS the password I changed for the Torrent client seems to revert back to the factory setting of no password randomly.
Its my guess that the latest update has issues with the BT client on the whole and probably needs a re-visit.
I have not read the entire thread yet, but has anyone heard an official communication from Buffalo about this?
DickeFix, yes, you're right. - it was a .torrent fileo n the OpenSUSE website. I don't know why I remembered a magnet link :/
Can confirm TPB magnets are not working again for me -it worked briefly yesterday without even inserting the trackers you posted. What an odd issue.
from the past couple of days, I was experiencing the exactly same problem you guys have been discussing here.
Mine is a LS-WVL Pro Duo running fireware 1.6 (was upgraded couple days back before magnet refused to work).
the weird thing happened this afternoon is that I found one Magnet URL on TPB working on my NAS, but others are still not.
the corresponding TPB webpage is at http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6675092/Parallels.Desktop.v7.0.14920.build.689535.inc.serial-ADDiCT
The tracker list are all the same across all the magnet URL on TPB I think. Do you guys have any clue what's behind the difference?
Just to confirm some of the troubleshooting undertaken in this thread, and adding some findings of my own:
- Magnet links can be added but don't start, they sit at 0 seeders and peers and display the null error mentioned previously in the event log:
JS error: [778] Unable to get value of the property '262': object is null or undefined
- Searching the file hash value of the magnet in Google and adding the .torrent file does work, it just seems to be magnet links that are broken.
- This doesn't seem to be an issue on uTorrent, if the client is installed on a desktop PC it will download fine, additionally the uTorrent WebUI version 0.370 if installed on a desktop PC or similar continues to work fine with magnet links, this seems to be something linked to the Buffalo uTorrent distribution.
- This isn't something linked solely to magnets from TPB. I am unable to download legitimate magnet links from other sites such as mininova.org - starting a magnet reports the same error, downloading the matching .torrent works fine.
- No official word from Buffalo in this thread as of yet, based on the amount of people with the same issue it looks to be a global fault.
-This isn't linked to firmware version, problem occurred for me on a box that had been running 1.56 happily for months. Upgrading didn't resolve the issue. I have access to several boxes in different locations running various firmwares, 1.56, 1.57, 1.60 - the issue is present on all.
- Resetting the Linkstation to factory defaults, formatting and/or erasing BitTorrent settings does not resolve the issue.
Please test this temporary fix!
If you download the following magnet link in Linkstation, subsequent downloaded magnet links will hopefully automatically work until the session times out. (Please paste the magnet link first in Word and remove the line break)
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:938802790a385c49307f34cca4c30f80b03df59c&dn=TPB&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80%2Fannounce
This is because the included http tracker works with Linkstation as opposed to the udp trackers. The cashed DHT nodes helps then to bootstrap DHT network. DHT network should be able to automatically bootstrap without torrents via router.utorrent.com but maybe Buffalo uses another bootstraping site that is temporarily down..
?
DickieFix - thanks for the tip, but when you say the session times out , what exactly does that mean? The web session to the Linkstation itself . or some sort of timeout for the torrent client?
The DHT cache will be cleaned after a while if there are no active downloads. I don´t know the exact time.
This is really starting to anoy me now, I'm having to start downloading torrents on my PC and linkstation, add the linkstation to my peer list on the pc (because the crappy web ui doesnt allow it to be done there, along with many many other options in the newer version of utorrent and the webui), and when i've got a handful of peers exchanged i can stop the download on my PC.
No RSS
No Autoloading torrents store in specifc folders
No way to specify where complete downloads move to
and now this?
The current build 20949, is almost 2 years old, I cant be the only person who badly thinks Buffalo need update the client, buy as far as i can can see they havent even acknowledged that theres an issue.
Adding random trackers which have abandoned TCP support to become UDP-only trackers isnt going to help things, in fact it will only end up causing more issues in the long term.
Two major trackers OBT and PBT have reportedly gone on stike because of it (source)
It isn't related to firmware version or upgrading - all firmwares are currently affected.
It seems to be a global issue judging by the number of people reporting this, however no official word from Buffalo yet and they haven't yet acknowledged it as an issue. For me this issue first became apparent last Thursday (12th July) although it may have started a day or two earlier and I haven't noticed.
The uTorrent WebUI continues to download magnets when using uTorrent standalone from a desktop PC, it just seems to be the Buffalo distribution that is affected.
DickeFix, I tested your temporary fix of adding the magnet link you specified - for ease of copy/pasting for others I have copied it to PasteBin so the Word step can be skipped:
Just copy and paste the magnet link from the raw paste data section.
For anyone curious about what you're actually downloading here, it's the Pirate Bay magnet archive (http://piratebay.se/torrent/7016365). Just to reiterate a point made earlier, this problem isn't just affecting magnet links from TPB, it's affecting magnet links from everywhere.
When I initially added the file, it sat at 0 downloaders and seeders like the rest, so I didn't think it worked, however any subsequent magnets I then downloaded seemed to start OK!
Just wondering here, if I edit the properties on this download to limit the upload and download rates to 1KB, it now has an ETA of several weeks, would magnet downloads continue to work while this magnet is downloading or is the cache timeout value you were mentioning something separate?
Goon, thanks for your help with uploading the magnet link to Pastebin! The linebreak that occured in the middle of the torrent when one copied and pasted it was very strange.
I don´t really know what determines the DHT cache length but think your idea to selectively limit the download rate for that torrent is smart and definitely worth testing. I also noticed that the magnet link took several minutes today before it started downloading so one needs to be patient.
Buffalo definitely needs to update the bittorrent client so it works fully with udp trackers.
The other thing I noticed is that when you load the native ( PC ) version of the torrent client my downloads seemed to be a LOT faster, with pretty much the same settings for amout of peers etc.
Perhaps a refresh of the client will help in that regard too.
Question - Does Buffalo have anybody on staff that checks the forums regularly and acts as a representative?
I suppose the fact that a fix has not been released immediately is a good thing as perhaps they are thinking it over and testing it more.
Hi Goon & Dickefix,
I use your dummy magnet link and it works perfectly.
My trick is once the dummy magnet link start working, I pause or stop it and leave it in the list. Next time if I need to download other maget link and it doesn't work, I just start downloading your dummy magnet link briefly and stop it. This is much more convinient than having to add the dummy magnet link everytime I need to download other files.
Thanks again for your help.
Same issue on my end as well. I thought it was the 1.60 firmware, but after downgrading to 1.57 this bt issue still remained. The fixes posted here, got me going again. Thanx!
Same problem here... LS-CHL 2TB unit... It was with 1.56 firmware, I upgraded to 1.60 thinking that it was a version problem, but same thing on both versions... The fix worked but it is very annoying, we need a real fix from Buffalo!
It should work. Maybe the file you try to download has no or very few seeders or maybe you stopped the bootstrap torrent too early before it had time to collect enough DHT nodes. Try to restart your other torrents after the bootstrap torrent has downloaded a few minutes.
add me into this list, since 1.60 firmware upgade. torrent is having problem.
RESET factory multiple time, does not works.
can someone guide me how to add the magnet link into the torrent? im does not seems to able to do that.
i pick a movie randomly from TPB, the magnet link is
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:7f163eee39233f8d1ad544b3d84f0b688b13dddd&dn=TED+2012+%28NEW+SOURCE%29+x264+-+KiNGDOM&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.istole.it%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80
the temp fix given is
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:938802790a385c49307f34cca4c30f80b03df59c&dn=TPB&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80%2Fannounce
how can i combine both this link to make it work?
thanks in advance.
after many tries, i read in post, where they say force the network ip in linkstation web setting, it can works.
after forcing my linkstation network IP, torrent seems to work again for now.
go to web settings, login, then choose Network --> Settings
enter the fixed ip and DNS, i put opendns (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)
Re-initialize the bittorent again, torrent seems to download again!
will try again tomorrow and update again.
has anyone else tried hard coding the IP address in and see if that makes a difference? I have my LinkStation set up to get a static/reserved IP from the DHCP server, so I cant really see how this would differ
I would imagine most if not all would have a reserved/static setup yeah?
the setting of network IP does not work!
the torrent is still not downloading and showing the same error
[15:21:58] JS error: [778] TypeError: lang is null
[15:21:56] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=getsettings&list=1
[15:21:56] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=getversion
[15:21:56] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=getxferhist
this is just frustrating!
im using the same method all this while, after upgrading to 1.6, problem on torrent is started...
Hello All,
I know it sounds crazy... but you may wish to try the following.
Open the torrent file via the web UI of the Bittoreent... as usual, nothing would happens...
On your windows pc, open the same torrent file via utorrent software installed on your windows pc.. the pc client will start downloading with connected seeds and peers, and your web gui will start in a short while...
I tried on a couple of torrents which I had difficulty and its working! You can close your utorrent and switch of your pc thereafter.
My NAS is on Firmware 1.58.
Cheers!
Manually adding http://tracker.ccc.de:80/announce to the list of trackers (in the download properties) seems to get DHT things going as well.
Firmware: 1.56
EANG18, does it works with bothe torrent file and magnetic link?
If you go to the properties of torrent and put "http://fr33dom.h33t.com:3310/announce" the torrent will start, it work for me i have te firmware 1.60.
this is doing my head in now! I've tried pasting the annouce links you give into my complete.gz which is now seeding (100% complete but seeding). I've tried pasting other torrents and nothing! Any advice... again technically this is my limit so I'm struggling to understand what DHT means and other stuff... but desperate for this to work!
Also are we 100% sure if I roll back my firmware to 1.58 it won't fix this (as I'm sure it all went **bleep** up when I updated my firmware)? This has been foxing me for some time, but as per previous suggestion, I right clicked on the torrent in the GUI and entered "http://fr33dom.h33t.com:3310/announce" to the list of trackers. Seeders & leechers appeared after a second or so and the download started. My Firmware is 1.56 and says it is the latest version. The standard uTorrent PC Client works fine, but I don't want to leave my PC on, so I prefer to use the Buffalo uTorrent if possible.
I looked on the uTorrent forums and they say:
Support for uTorrent integrated on that device is handled by Buffalo tech support and not us. They run a customized version specifically designed for their hardware.
So, I guess it's up to Buffalo to provide a fix in their own time..... unless there is an alternative client that works and can be integrated into the NAS ... am I right in thinking the Buffalo NAS units are essentially "linux boxes"?

Hi Robig,
sorry, I can't think of what to suggest - the torrent appears in my list when I add the URL, just doesn't have any seeders or leechers.. The only time it doesn't list is when I paste the url into the "Torrent File" box by mistake :s
I think you have a differnt box with different firrmware, so it's probably just the client software needs tweaking to accomodate the diffferent kinds of Buffalo boxes - reassuring that they are looking into it, though ;)
i manage to get it work sometimes by
1) put in the torrent u wanted, stop all task. then paste this RAW Data from here http://pastebin.com/Mwcxq3ei# (thanks to DickeFix & Goon) into ur torrent URL
2) it run connect to run and download, u see a complete.gz, let it run a while
3) after that, start ur torrent and initially it will be zero and then it will magically start download!
i dont knw whether it will work for u, good luck to all.
thanks.
im a LS-XL7C0, firmware 1.60
have tried mozilla, safari and chrome. all does not work.
im using a mac os lion 10.7
My model LS-CHL 2TB
It was with firmware 1.56, it started with this torrent issue, then I upgraded to 1.60 and made a Factory Reset, it still has the same problem.
Tried with IE 9 and Google Chrome latest version...
The temporary fix adding the complete.gz torrent before each torrent to donwload worked, but it is unpractical for me this fix... We need a real fix from Buffalo...
add http://tracker.ccc.de/announce to tracker
1. Stop torrent
2. Right click torrect
3. Properties
4. From Tracker add: http://tracker.ccc.de/announce, Trackers (separate tiers with an empty line)
ex.
udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
udp://tracker.istole.it:80/announce
http://tracker.ccc.de/announce
5. press Ok
6. Start Torrent, you're torrent should start downloading now
most torrent now have udp:// from the tracker, i think that is the reason why the torrents are not downloading
Had already proposed this solution worked well for me.
Propertis of the torrent and put http://tracker.ccc.de/announce to tracker then restart de torrent.
work for me. FW 1.60

Browser does not matter, this is not a gui problem. This is a problem with the torrent client built into the buffalo nas products.
But for the record I have used both windows 7 and mac osx lion with different browsers.
You asking for browser version is a bit disturbing thou since it doesn't make me confident that you really are digging into the problem.
Does anybody with these models like LS-CHL with firmware 1.56, 1.58 and 1.60 have the bittorrent client 100% working? Or is it a general problem on every unit?
For me the main reason that I bought the Buffalo NAS was the Utorrent client built in, but now with this major problem it doesn't worth nothing...
Buffalo Support team could at least keep us informed about what is going on, or let's say, if they even know what's wrong so far...
I agree with Sergio. i bought this nas because the torrent and gigabit lan after the update to fw 1.60 the torrent stop working. i can make download but i have to put http://fr33dom.h33t.com:3310/announce im the properties of the torrent. I very much hope that the buffalo is attentive to all complaints and resolve the problem. tanks
Thank you, worked for me so far, just added 3 pasted magnets from TPB and all are downloading at full speed.
My uTorrent used to work just fine before my firmware update, i believe it was 1.58, now I´m on 1.60 and it didn´t work until i followed your tip.
Not much more I can add.
Bye!
Same here,
Running a LS-WVL series which developed the issue after update to 1.60
Doubt if buffalo does something with this as it seems to be an issue throughout several firmwares already.
Anyway, it's working for me by copying the trackers although speeds ar 100kb/sec where they used to be 1mb/sec
Hi everyone
I encounter the same problem. I read the whole thread and tried most of the suggestion and none of it works.
I am using LS-VLE13 2TB. My situation is not related to firmware update. I used 1.56 for many months and it works fine, a month before, I realized some of the .torrent files in my usual BT site don't work, I switch to other site to d/l .torrent files. This week I found that none of the .torrent files works in any site. Therefore, I tried to upgrade the firmware to 1.6 and it doesn't help, not even added the trackers. Very frustrated, I mainly use the buffalo as a download agent, it become a RUBBISH now...
Anyone can suggest more?
Thanks!
Kenneth
i guess most of us, if not all, bought buffalo due to its BT client is using utorrent.. now the set is not providing this feature as it should..
Come on buffalo, your slogan is "performance matters"
I sent an email to US Support on July-20 and they answered me with the Ticket #201387763, here is their answer (I think is the same Brian from this thread):
"Re: [Ticket#201387763] Contact Form
I am currently investigating this issue.
Please reply with the firmware version you are currently running on the unit.
Also, are you able to start a download by uploading a torrent file instead of using a magnet link?
Thank you,
Brian
Buffalo Technical Support"
I replied with the link of this thread asking him to ask everybody here about the problem, and at least it looks like they've done something asking everybody.
So far, not a single word about a fix from Buffalo... I think it is time to search for alternatives and retire this Buffalo...
Has anyone with this issue thought to give a Buffalo Tech access to the download manager on their unit via port forwarding? The password can then be changed later , and from my experience they can only get hold of the BT interface and not the rest of your data.
Just a thought.
ssshonky,
That's an idea. Maybe that'll shed some light on the issue. Go ahead
brian_nathaniel wrote:This issue has been escalated to our engineering department, and a resolution is actively being worked toward.
Thanks Brian - much appreciated.
Just magnet links here. Pasting an alternative "http" tracker seems to work - and the uTorrent client on the PC works fine without modification on the same links.
To the ones who got the US support dept involved - Thank you!
To the buffalo tech team - Thank you for finally getting involved. I really hope you can show attentivness and execution ability now that you are aware.
I believe you can find most of the information about the problem in these 12 pages (and growing) of problem reports.
Really solving the issue will require your R&D dept to get a bit more engaged than waiting for your user-base to help reproduce the problem.
Reproducing the problem should not be so difficult if they get involved for real rather than pushing the issue back to support in your problem ticket managment system. The problem is widely affecting several devices and firmwares and more or less impossible not to get affected by.
Here's my description and analysis anyway:
The issue is not so much if you have a .torrent file or a magnet link.
The issue is that the torrent client seems to have stopped working with udp torrent trackers.
The http trackers does not necessarily work either.
I suspect that it could the trackers who stopped allowing requests from torrent clients which does not comply with curtain criterias (like client version id etc)
Should be easy enough to create a work around for thou, just modify the client id which is being sent from the built-in client, or even better, upgrade the client to a more up-to-date version. if this really is the problem I suggest adding some advanced setting where the user can enter the client id string manually to create a backup for future issues/work-arounds.
I'm not a technical guy so my analysis might be the laugh of the week in the R&D dept but trust me, none of your users are laughing right now.
Please fix the problem asap unless you want to see your customers turn to your competitors with their future business.
If this was a b2b market/product I am sure the competitors would start to offer your clients trade-up programs but since this is a consumer business you probably have to worry more about why this is one of the threads with most postings in the forum (12 pages and growing...) and how that affects your reputation. (Magazine reviewers will check your forums in future reviews and the way you manage things now will reflect your reviews in the future as well).
Anyway, I hope you can resolve the issues soon.

Off topic, but in my case (a Samsung Blu-Ray player), I have the same problem and for most of them, I can simply rename them with the .mpg extension, and then they will play. Go figure.
Good post BeijingBT!!!!
Let's hope the tech support quickly figure out a way to resolve this issue before the pages of this thread hits to a higher level....
Hello friends so far no response from the buffalo. I'll just ask a question anyone know how to get into web-based administration? thank you
Shock: I just tried DL-ing two torrents from TPB (magnet links, all UDP trackers) and they worked. I did have an older torrent that I manually added the http tracker to still seeding, but that was not enough to start torrents in the previous days.
Edit: I did still get the error in the log though: [18:13:14] JS error: [778] Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '262' of null
Edit 2: did some more experimenting. Tried some other TPB torrents and most didn't work. I tried DL-ing the same one that worked before (it was out of the uTorrent interface) and it started again. Weird.
Yeah, iYan - I just tried a couple of links and they worked too.....
I apologize for the issues you are seeing. Please send me some links to legal magnet links which are not working for you, supply as many details as possible, firmware revision that is not working, full product part number (include capacity), location (country), whether or not you've tried adding trackers and whether that worked. Check your router and let me know what ports are being used for the torrent client. If it's working, but the speed is slower than before, send your ISP name and what type of service subscription plan (speed/bandwidth) Send to drmemory@buffalotech.com
So,
for me things seem to be working. the 262 message I do not see at the moment. Speeds, however are nowhere near to what they were in the past (100kB vs 1 MB).
Maybe my provider is blocking torrent traffic
after one week using the method, my bittorrent is working.
now just today, my buffalo is in EM MODE!! any can help me?
Yep same here. Now no need to add extra trackers but speed does seem very slow!!!
Same for me. Downloads start and work now, but take FOREVER! Incredibly slow, even with a lot of seeders!
Ok , I just bought a new modem/router, tried downloading a few torrents on the buffalo and they all worked at top speed!
I was thinking maybe it was just a problem with my old modem , but reading this thread I see that I am not alone?
Question , if the firmware isnt the issue , and nothing is being updated on the nas, how are these things just working , then not working , then working again
anyone thought that one through?
Looks like its all back to normal. Downloading without issues and also at top speed!!!!! :-)
are you downloading from The Pirate Bay, or were other magnet links not working? Also, when it wasn't working, in what countries was it not working - TPB was being blocked in some countries. Email me at drmemory@buffalotech.com to send me the details.

-Download the latest firmware from our website at http://www.buffalotech.com/support-and-downloads/downloads
-Unzip it and run the Updater (Usually LSUpdater.exe)
-You may need to disable any firewalls or security programs for it to go through

Any answers on the unacceptably slow download speeds? Takes me DAYS to download a 700mb file with nearly 50 seeders!! This used to take literally minutes! What's going on?? Sometimes they will start out with a good speed, then quickly drop to less than 10.0kb/s!! Ridiculous! Using Ktorrent (in linux), the speeds are normal. It's gotta be sumthin in the bittorrent on the linkstation.
***admin - send the links and trackers to drmemory@buffalotech.com so I can try to reproduce here. Send location, product name and firmware version too
what am i suposed to do davo?
i reinitilized the bittorrent client multiple times - no change
i tried different folders to save to - no change
i tried torrents from different trackers/sites - no change
i tried magnet link - no change
Not much else one can do on a closed system.
i even went so far as to add the terastation to the dmz net, because i thought the router was blocking something but - no change
Looks to me like i will have to see how to get transmission on the box.
send the links and trackers to drmemory@buffalotech.com and I will try to reproduce here.
Hi,
ok i found the problems.
There were two problems, now it's only one.
The first problem was my Network configuration.
Since the terastation stopped responding over LAN1 two times i had set up LAN2 as the active network port.
But it seems that Bittorrent only works over LAN1, because after i changed it back to LAN1 and deactivated LAN2 part of the torrents run.
So first problem solved.
The second problem is the Bittorrent client.
The tracker uses a whitelist for which torrent clients are allowed.
Thx to wireshark i know that the bittorrent in firmware 1.57 uses the peer id: -UT300B-
As i got told that stands for utorrent 3.0.0 Beta, which is already over a year old.
Betas don't get allowed on the whitelist.
Is it possible to get a firmware with a stable version of theutorrent client.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the problem that many on these forums had - no new torrents would download. One day, they started working again. Welp, as of yesterday - SAME PROBLEM. Nothing changed on my part; one day they were working and then starting yesterday neither magnet files nor .torrent files would start. In logger I received the messages:
[10:33:44] JS error: [778] TypeError: lang is null
[10:33:42] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=getsettings&list=1
[10:33:42] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=getversion
[10:33:42] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=getxferhist
Any thoughts?
send the torrent/magnet addresses to drmemory@buffalotech.com and we will try to reproduce the issue here (first step) _ Also send full product part number, firmware revision, and a summary of how your network is set up (include ISP and world location)
is there a fix for this yet?
Ive just purchased my LS duo running FW 1.60 and the utorrent client wont even start to dload at all.
Ive tried adding the trackers manually listed in this topic but to no avail
Regards
As you suggested it I have sent you an email 1 week ago with torrent/magnet address. Unfortunately I havent't receive back any feedback and I'm really disappointed. On my pc bittorrent client is working properly, BT on NAS (FW 1.60) doesn't get any peer and even trying to change manually trackers (as some other customers suggest on tis 3d) nothing has changed.
Please focus on this issue because if BT client does not work I don't need this NAS anymore.

Sorry - didn't catch your email until now. I've forwarded your details to our NAS engineers and will report back to you after they have investigated it. Thank you for emailing the details to me.
Thanks in advance Bruce. I have just reply you by mail.

Hello Bruce,
Yesterday I had chance to play with NAS and I reconfigure some parameters. You know what? I put DNS and after restart bittorrent daemon the client has started to download. Since I have purchased NAS I have never set DNS and bittorrent worked fine. Lately bittorrent stop working and I tried even this change and as I said, surprised it worked. It's quite weird, isn't it. Anyway, now it's fine again.
BTW thanks for the support and hope I do not have anymore any need :-)
BR from Italy
Mauro
To be clear, you entered a DNS in your router or modem? It wasn't self-populating with an address from your ISP?
Hello, the significant changes I did yesterday were in order:
change IP address of the NAS from DYNAMIC to STATIC
set DNS at NAS level (network configuration)
CHANGE PORT of bittorrent clinet on NAS (over 15000)
and did loads of restart (bittorrent client on NAS) and loads of changes about path and folders related on bitorrent client @ NAS level
Except for the DNS changes (which I have never set since I have bought the NAS and bittorrent client was working properly before FW release 1.56) other changes above seems not affecting the resolution. I says SEEMS because I did lots of MODIFY and RESTART without a logic so I'm not sure 100% that some of the other change had affect resolution. So NAS starts downloading as soon as I set DNS, that's for sure but also I'm not totally sure thta even other changes had not impact as well.
My suggestion is to do all the changes I did and check even if at router level BT port are open.
Hope is clear my english, in case you ned help BRUCE is the right person :-)

For customers experiencing slow Torrents with 1.60, please contact me with your linkstation model number, serial number (14 digit), ISP name/type, and a link to the torrent that is slow (we need for testing) Send to drmemory@buffalotech.com
Since i got no response in any kind the first time, i will try a seceond time:
Many Torrent Trackers block BETA clients.
Which means the torrents don't start.
My Terastation Duo with Firmware 1.57, which was released on 19.07.2012.
A litte work with wireshark shows that this firmware uses a utorrent version that uses the peer_id UT300B, which identifies the Torrent client as a Utorrent 3.0 BETA.
Utorrent 3.0 Beta is "only" about 1 1/2 years old.
Is there a chance to see a firmware in the near future that uses a up-to-date and stable version of utorrent?
It "could" be the solution to many "Torrent doesn't download" threads.
I hope i get a response this time
For FW suggestions, please add the suggestion in the Idea Exchange Lounge and urge all your friends to vote for it. For faster help with these issues, I have to provide complete information to the engineers (along with your written suggestion). My post above details what they need. Also, a few weeks ago TPB stopped working for people without trackers and a week later began working again, though slower. I have received some information from people on this post, but most have not responsed, so the engineers can only guess that most people's magnet links are working again, with trackers.
Hello. I'd also like to ask the development team to upgrade the embedded utorrent client. As Guyver said a beta version is being used that is blocked on some of the trackers.
Btw I've already reported this but had no responses: http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/embedded-torrent-client-advertises-itself-as-beta-client-id/m-p/97854
Ideas need to be suggested on the Idea Exchange Lounge for the engineers to see how many people vote on it.
i just posted the idea in the "Idea Exchange Lounge".
But then i looked at the "Top ideas" and saw that the two top ideas are more then 2 years old, with 90 and 46 votes, and non of them ever made it to a firmware ....
I don't think that many people go to the lounge or don't know that they can vote.
Oh well we are just end-users.....
***Correction by Admin - the top idea was implemented - Twonky was updated to the highest stable version (6), and the engineers are working on ideas number 3 and 5. If more votes come in for 2 and 4....but you are correct that people aren't voting much, people need to go vote. Less than 100 votes for the top ideas isn't many votes, considering these forums have over 36,000 registered members, BTW, I voted for your idea - keep the votes coming in****
Well, voting won't hurt - let's all do it and see if we can make a positive change
Where do I have to go for voting new ideas?
Could you please link the address for voting right here.
Thanks in advance

there was already a suggestion for this at http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Idea-Exchange-Lounge/Updated-version-of-uTorrent-webui/idi-p/57830 but I'll add all the votes together when getting the engineers to look at the suggestions.
I have the LinkStation Pro Duo LS-WVL/R1. Since the current firmware includes a beta version of the Utorrent client, does anyone know what version of the firmware includes a non-beta version? As a temporary solution, I'm considering downgrading the firmware.
good question, as i wrote the 3.0 Beta is about 1 and 1/2 years old.
i'm surprised that, in all that time, they never updated the client.
And there were a few firmware updates in that time.
Propably worked by the rule: "Never change a running system"
The version of uTorrent on the Buffalo NAS is not open source. It is licensed from uTorrent, but developed and maintained exclusively by Buffalo. It is unlikely to be updated regularly.
Since I really needed a reliable version of the bittorrent client on my LS-WVL, I was able to install instead the most recent version of the open-source bittorrent client Transmission. This requires getting root access to your NAS to allow for the installation of new packages. This will violate the warranty on your NAS.
I don't think a detailed discussion of this procedure is permitted here. If anyone else is interested, I recommend that they search other forums.
And the problem is back again.
After having worked again for a while, now no downloads, even with loads of peers etc.
same as me. I'm waiting a feedback from buffalo support, sent to them a dump almso 1 week ago.
Who knows what version of torrent is installed on our NAS?
Any news on this topic?
Torrents are still not working and no firmware has been released?
I know that it has been requested by the users to vote for the features in the ideas exchange thread.
However, many users might not fully realize how to do this or have taken the time to do so.
None the less, there is a good reason for why this thread has 17 pages and still growing. Its because there is a real problem that affects many users.
One could argue that this is a defect rather than a feature request but I guess the technical guy who sees everything from a pure logical point of view rather than from a customer service and satisfaction point of view might see things differently.
Anyway, by the end of the day it comes down to what kind of reputation Buffalo wants to build for themselves. Do you want to be a company who just sells the boxes and treat customers in a way were they'll end up just passing on a bad rep or customers who actually become returning customers and refers your products to others?
Sadly you get the feeling that Buffalo doesn't care about normal end-users.
I just looked through the Idea Lounge, and if you take every request concerning Utorrent together (request for Updates or features from newer Utorrent Version) you get at least over a 100 Kudos.
It should be more, but i believe that nearly no one knows the Idea Lounge System.
At least i didn't know about it till it was pointed out to me.
My Idea für the Update to a stable Version of Utorrent only got 18 Kudos, since i postet it nearly 6 weeks ago (one even from a MOD).
Maybe Buffalo wants us to change to their competition?
At least drmemory is trying to help us.
@ghz
Thx for the Info, from that it looks like Buffalo likes to use BETA utorrent clients sind the B in UE210B stands for BETA just like in UT300B.
Maybe our only chance for a clean working torrent client is, like Hooner said, to root the Station and install our own client....
Asking for the money back is a slow and agonising process. The warranty conditions are extremely limited in the favor of the vendor. (Unreasonably so?)
Its probably a lot more "effective" to talk to the various local IT magazine journalists. Like the guys at pcmag, cnet and pcworld.
Samara Lynn (pcmag; http://www.pcmag.com/author-bio/samara-lynn)
Matthew D Sarrel (pcmag: http://www.pcmag.com/author-bio/matthew-d.-sarrel)
Elias Plastiras (pcworld: http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/author/1116437436/elias-plastiras/articles)
Jon l Jacobi (cnet uk: http://www.cnet.co.uk/search/jon+l.+jacobi.htm)
- are a small selection of persons to talk to.
Even making some sincere and honest comments on customer review sections at places like amazon and e-bay could be seen as our duty as good citizens. Comments and opinions stated off course does not need to be limited to consumer products from buffalo. Our bad experience with this issue goes beyond a technical one and includes customer service and attentivness. Making comments for high-end, high-profit and business crucial products is just as relevant (perhaps even more relevant than for these specific consumer level products given that customer service is even more important then).
Dropping some notes to the competitors marketing / product marketing departments might also help aid other customers make better decisions in their future purchases.
Anyway, I still hope that we won't need to come to that and that the good guys and girls at buffalo comes through and solves these issues. But I must admit that my hope is running out.
FYI: Torrent magnet links are downloading successfully on all my Nas's.

Mine works fine too - while I did have some issues for a week or so, I didn't change anything, and it all just started working :)
Nice to know that for you two it works, but there are those who got problems with the uTorrent Client.
And i for one believe that the problem may lie in the version of the utorrent-Client that is used by Buffalo.
The Client tells the Tracker, "hello i am BT300B".
The Tracker checks his list list of Clients and see's that BT300B is a Beta Client and is not allowed an the tracker.
The Tracker tells the Client "Sorry but i don't talk with Beta Clients"
So were hoping that Buffalo would be nice enough to update the torrent client to a stable/update version, which has in one way or another been requested a hundred times or more already in the Idea Lounge

I'm using the same version as yourself so what does that tell you?
It tells me that the Trackers you use don't care about the clients hat to connect to them.
But there are Trackers out there that do care about what kind of Clients (Leecher, Beta and so on) connect to them.
And those are blocking us because Buffalo uses a BETA client in their firmware.
And i for one didn't pay so much money for my NAS to be a BETA Tester.
OK so, send me a link for a torrent that you are using. I've tested nearly 50 links and they all are working.

or virtually any other torrent from tpb and all other majort trackers / search engine.
*admin* when posting, list your product and firmware revision please*
The above torrent is working for me:
@davo
Did you get the Link i send you work?
yes, that worked also, sorry for not replying.
Did you test it from a terastation with 1.57 Firmware?
Yes and LS-CHL (1.60) and CS-WVL (1.13)
okey...., very suspect.
I will try this weekend again with the utorrent
This is indeed very strange.
I'd wish someone would figure out what the issue is. There is no doubt about the fact that there is an issue and not an isolated event considering all the reports.
Since torrent downloads works from my home-computer but not from the NAS, just as reported from others as well, then I guess we can rule out issues with the service provider.
I wonder if anyone in buffalos support or R&D team have been able to replicate the problem.
If not, then we need to help them see the problem. My guess is that they should have been able to see the problem since it seems to be so wide-spread.

Just bought a new LS. The same problem as all others in this thread, Bittorrent doesn't work with general torrents.
Why is not Buffalo addressing this issue? It is a major flaw.
The repeated requests for set-up info from the Buffalo guys at this thread is irrelevant - many have the same problem, Buffalo should solve it NOW.

Dear robigouk,
Have you success in asking the money back.
The wholesaler in Hong Kong said that BT may not be working, after I have brought the unit, and say that it is normal.
The did not give me back the money.

What is the firmware on the unit, also can you post the torrent link that doesn`t work for you?
Hi,
I've been "contributing" to this thread several times and been "shut down" by admins stating that they get it to work and that there is no problem.
At the same time I've seen in a lot of other (newer) threads that Buffalo updated the client in other firmwares due to the issues that we are experiencing on the LS-CHxxL devices, namely that the torrent client identifies itself with an old version number which is banned from most trackers.
Have Buffalo stopped supporting this model?
IF so, where is the End Of Sales / End Of Support statements and lifecycle descriptions?
At least in Australia there are several consumer laws which holds the manufacturer responsible for making sure that the products provides the functionality state in the advertisement, that is obviously not provide in this case if seen from the users perspective.
Is there any plan to update the firmware (1.60 was a major fiasco and the critical bugs related have not been fixed even if the release was done 6 months ago).
You have to understand that from their point of view, the device works fine - at least mine and many others do. I appreciate that doesn't help you, but if your situation is one of a relatively few number of users and a larger number of users are working fine, then the problem may just lie elsewhere. My firmware is 1.56 - it stopped working once for a few days and started working again without anything at my end being changed and has been fine ever since. Really sorry I can't be of any help.
This is not a problem that affects a relatively few, it is something that affects everyone who try to access a private tracker that does not approve of torrent clients which are old and outdated. It will affect EVERYONE that uses the same hardware / firmware as I am using. And based on the number of replies in this thread I'd say that its a wide-spread problem that should not be neglected of waiwed as "irrelevant background noise".
I read in a number of other threads that this problem had been resolved in other buffalo products (newer version of the torrent client installed)
This means not only that it is a confirmed problem but also that Buffalo has actively choose what user groups to ignore and which ones they continue to support.
UnProfessional organizations have a lifecycle plan which they follow. Unfortunately buffalo does not seem to be one of them even if they are dealing with senstive storage solutions..
@BeijingBT
Forget it, while the mods here seem to at least seem to care a little i think that Buffalo as a whole doesn't seem to care a bit.
I had this problem with both my Linkstation (about 4 years old) and my Terastation (have it for about 1 year) for a long time and no Firmware Update helped on any of them.
As far as i'm concerned Buffalo is on my "Buy Never Again From" list.
You pay much money and get lowest-end hardware.
i have to agree with you guys. buffalo products lacks the features that most of their competitors (eg. synology, qnap) deliver for a similar price. okay, i am not always concerned about all the bells and whistles. but come on, they do care about customers and do support their older boxes as well.
was loyal for years but already started getting rid of my Buffalo stuff. that's it, end of the story.
concerning the TS question: I had this problem a couple of days ago, and solved it by changing the language character set.
When trying to download the same torren with another program I turned out that one of the files had a 'strange' character in de filename. The letter ü
Don't know if it can be of any help to one of you, but it dit to me....
Experiencing the same problem with bittorrent after a firmware-upgrade to version 1.60, I finally found a solution that is likely to solve your problems too.
Some time ago a guy named Shonk started a great job by modifying Buffalo's firmware, including version 1.60 which seems to be the last firmware version for the LS-CH1.0TL-V2, because this model is presently to be found under "discontinued products" (yes indeed, this is questionable support). Shonk even modified further versions of the firmware, meant for other models, and tested it for proper operation on a number of devices, including the LS-CHL v2. At the time of writing this reply, he arrived at version 1.64 mod1a.
I installed the last mentioned firmware (with fingers crossed) on my Linkstation, and yes, it turned out to be working like never before! Not only bittorrent is working now as in the old days, but various other features have been added (for instance I can't remember to have seen the SqueezeBox server in previous official firmware), or have a newer version (like TwonkyMedia server). You can read all about this here:
http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=23603
The download link mentioned on that page didn't work for me, however this one did:

I would be happy to learn from you whether this turns out to be THE solution. If so, I suggest to erect a statue for Shonk.
Good luck.
Just seen that Buffalo is uploading firmware version 1.65 for the LS series after their last release of 1.64 back in Dec 2012. According to the release notes there are no changes to the BT client. I hope it will not be the case...
Have you already tried this version?
