1. Move the power switch to the ‘Off’ position(rear). The LinkStation Mini will shut down after about 45 seconds.

2. While holding down the function button(rear for 6 sec), move the power switch to the ‘On’ postion(rear). The Function LED will begin to flash blue.

3. Push the Function button again while the Function LED is flashing.

4. LED on the front will flash Blue, then will turn to Green when process is complete.

Similar issue, trying to reset Linkstation Mini LS-WS500GL/R1.

Followed (unclear) function button method and got:

Japanese language login screen, but still no luck with the password.

Please strive for crystal clarity in describing the PW reset operation

1) Turn off, for how long?

2) Pull power or not?

3) Press clearly labeled function button (for how long?)

4) Turn power switch to on, or auto?

5) Release function button, after how long?

6) Push function button again for how long, after how long?

Not at all satisfied with device operation.

pheil,

1. Doesnt matter as long as it turns off

2.  Doesnt matter as long as it turns off

3.  6 seconds as it is powering on, the second time, it doesnt matter

4.  Shouldn't matter, although I guess I would recommend on.

5.  See 3

6.  See 3

PCP,

No change,

Still in Japanese,

Still not the default password.

Which is kind of funny as the Japanese help button clearly states the default login information.

So the device responded to the restore command but did not restore the password.

Where and how do I return this?

Boot the unit into EM mode and do a force firmware update and check the option to delete user configuration data.  If you have backups of all of the data on the LS, check "rebuild partition table", but if not don't as it will delete all of the data on the unit.  If it prompts for a password try the default admin/password.

A very interesting result, the fault appears to be with the login screeen.

I tried changing the IP address and the unit requested the admin password, I gave the unit the default password and the IP address was changed.

Yup, just checked, giving random passwords fails the challenge, but the default password allows changing the IP address.

I would imagine this should give a pretty good insight into the problem.

Still in Japanese and still can't login.

I would suggest going through what suggested.

I have now followed the Force Update suggestion. Twice.

The LS-WS500GL/R1 updated but is still in Japanese and still will not respond to the default user and password. In normal and EM boot, the password is indeed 'password'  from force update and change IP but it is not recognized from the web admin screen.

As an aside, when dealing with people who are absolutely livid about the failure of their purchased device, cutesy signatures are not appreciated.

Are you trying to connect to the unit via Nas Navi or Via the run box?

If your trying to access it VIA Nas Navi then try it like this

Hold the windows key down and push R.  It will bring up the run box.  In the field type in \\ipaddress.  When trying to connect to the Web Admin just take the IP address and put it in the address bar of your web browser.

From the run box typing in the ip address opens the top level directory view of the linkstation, no problem. As a disk drive it seems to be working fine. The network attached drive comes up reliably. I just can't log onto the device.

From "Web Admin" started from Nas Navi still not recognizing password. (and in Japanese)

From Firefox using the explicit IP address, not recognizing the password. (and in Japanese)

From Internet Explorer using the explicit IP address,  not recognizing the password.  (and in Japanese)

Have used force update with delete user config. The only thing I haven't tried is deleting all the partitions. I don't think it will help.

From here it seems that you can get to the data so I would suggest pulling the data off then calling our support line so we can set up an RMA for you if the unit is still in warranty.

Hi JoshC,

I also have the same problem with my Linkstation Mini 1TB as mentioned above and I have tried all the resetting functions mentioned. I still have warranty in force. Please explain, what is a RMA?

I will send the unit back to supplier asap.
