Linkstation 441e in Apple Environment
« on: November 24, 2014, 04:43:42 PM »
My first time in the NAS world so I'm a newbie.

I purchased a Linkstation 441e and have outfitted it with (3) 4TB HGST Deskstar drives.  It's in an Apple network environment running OSX Yosemite.  Once installed, I attempt to bring the Linkstation up on the network.  It is visible but starts up in EM mode.  Link Navigator attempts to set it up but set up fails.  It appears to get all the correct IP address information at this point.  After the initial fail, the Linkstation is no longer visible by the application and I have to reboot it to make another attempt.

The first search for help said to look to update the firmware.  After running the installer, it indicates there are no Linkstations that need to be upgraded.

My first question is:  Is there a difference between the drives that are designated for desktop use versus NAS use that could be the issue?  I purchased the desktop versions and was told by the Fry's associate it should work.  There was a $70 difference per drive so I went with the desktop drives.

Are there other areas I need to look at to bring this up successfully?

Thanks for the help and patience with a newbie.
