Linkstation Firmware Upgrade Issues
« on: November 30, 2010, 12:48:28 PM »

Hello -

I have a Linkstation HS-DH320GL on firmware version 2.10-0.01 that I would like to upgrade to firmware version 2.10-0.05.

When I launch the Buffalo HS-DHGL Updater (LSUpdater.exe) it finds my device with no problems. However, when I click update, I get the following error:

"Couldn't confirm a response from JGH_ATH_NAS.

please check a network address of bot PC and JGH_ATH_NAS

Please disable the Firewall function if it id working on PC.

Updating is aborted."

My vitals are as follows:

PC OS: Win7 64bit

Firewall: Windows Security Essentials

PC IP address: 192.168.1.202

NAS Device: HS-DH320GL

Current NAS firmware: 2.10-0.01

NAS Device hostname: JGH_ATH_NAS

NAS IP address: 192.168.1.11

Router/Switch: Cisco E3000

Stuff that hasn't worked:

1. Run LSUpdater.exe as Administrator

2. Turn off Windows Security Essentials

3. Turn off Windows Security Essentials & run LSUpdater.exe as Administrator

Thanks in advance!

-JGH

Try doing the FAQ 2 of 5.

From this information it doesnt look like you followed the tftp boot method. It states to reset your unit and change your ip to 11.1. Please follow through with it step by step. thanks.

Hmmm...

Still no joy.

I followed the FAQ from steps 1 to 3 to the letter (including changing my PC ip address to 192.168.11.1).

When I fired up the TFTP client (from step 3) it just sat there at:

"accepting requests..."

My Linkstation never requested anything. In fact, it happily boots up with a static ip of 192.168.11.150.

Could it be that my device isn't supported by the TFTP firmware upgrade method?

If so, is there an old fashioned command line method? I'm a bit more comfortable with the command line as it is.

Thanks!

Even though it never said blocks served you could wait 2 minutes them try and force the firmware. Forcing the firmware is shown in FAQ 2 of 5. Your basically just going to be enabling the debug options for the firmware and select force update and do not check version.

Jotin -

Just tried this whole process on another Wintel laptop and it worked 1st time thru with no issues.

I am assuming that it's something proprietary that my company installed on the other PC.

(yay! something else to snoop in to)

Anyhow, thanks for your patience!
