WHR-G301N Router with iphone 3G (in Japan)
« on: January 28, 2011, 01:46:55 AM »

Hi there,

It's a long shot I guess, but hoping someone might be able to help me. I recently bought a WHR-G301N (firmware 1.82) router here in Japan primarily for connecting my Wii and iPhone 3G to wifi internet. Despite language barriers (my Japanese is not that good, especially reading) have been able to get it set up and connected with PC, Wii and iPhone. The PC connection is great - about 6mbps, which is about  the full speed of my 12mbps ADSL connection. The throughput on the Wii is lower but managing a satisfactory 2mbps. The iphone, however, is pathetic - maxing at about 128 kbps! Would really appreciate any advice on router settings to improve the wifi speeds of the iphone. The Japanese Buffalo Customer Support is unfortunately beyond my language abilities.

You might want to try just using WEP or TKIP encryption types. The encryption would be the only thing that I could think of that would cause weird issues like that.
