PCast Media Streaming via UPnP does not work
« on: January 17, 2009, 02:57:03 PM »

Hi,

I want to access music and pictures and tried it via Xbox Media Center (http://www.xbmc.org) and Cidero (http://www.cidero.com). Both listed the link station as UPnP media server with complete directory (Music/Pictures/Video) and subdirectories but without any data.

I've used the root directory "share" with lots of mp3 and jpg files. The user rights of "share" are not restricted (LAN access). I've pressed the refresh button and restarted the linkstation.

Actually, this configuration should work (see: http://www.kr8.de/wiki/index.php/Buffalo_LinkStation) - propably there is something wrong with my linkstation configuration ...?

Any ideas?

P.S.: I'm happy with my linkstation but have read a lot of bad things about the buffalo customer service - at least in this forum!

- I'd appreciate quick and competend response :smileyhappy:

   Are you using a LSL V2?  Are you on firmware 2.11?  Check the DLNA compatibility thread - maybe that will help.

thx for the quick reply.

Version 2 Hardware and V2.10 firmware. The 2.11 firmware seems to concentrate on problems when connecting the LSL to a real XBox (and is not listed under http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/).

Cheers

The 2.11 firmware is specifically to do with media sharing with pcast.. not sure if it is 100% DLNA specific, but it has fixed the empty folders for lots of folks...

I wouldn't pay much attention to where you get the d/l - unless it is not from a buffalo site of course.  For example, in Europe, these forums aren't listed either...

The 2.11 can be found at the US download area of Buffalo. The european area still offers 2.10.

Is there any experience with the 2.11? I found the following enty on this site that makes me feel a little bit suspicious of it:

   I've got the exact same model - HS-DH500GL.  The 211 version went on fine.  Just don't do it via wireless.  Safer that way.

I tried to update to 2.11 today but at the end the automatic reboot failed with the following error message:"HS-DHGL has booted up as an emergency boot. Updating may be failure. Please reboot the HS-DHGL again and confirm it boots up".

I tried it twice without success. At the end of the day I was happy to be able to go back to v2.10 (at the end of the firmware installation process the same error message came up but after rebooting the LS I was able to access my data).

What do you think is the problem during reboot?

Did the same erroor message came up during your update?

mine just worked.  Did you do the update in debug mode and 'force update'?

Check the ini has:

[Flags]
VersionCheck = 1

[specialflags]
debug = 1

Then click on the rings in the updater program, choose debug.  Tick all updates, do not check version, force update.  That's what I had anyway - 6 ticks.  If took a while to install, and rebooted a couple of times iirc.  Maybe your download was corrupt...  no ideas otherwise...
