Linkstation 220 power LED flashes red 7X.  NAS Navigator doesn't detect device.  IP scanner doesn't detect device.

7x usually means it's failing to read the partition table or failing to find a suitable boot partition.

I removed the drives, partitions are recognizable in Windows.  Tried 2 new bare drives.  Power LED still flashes red 7x.

Same issue here with a LS420D0402.  Both drives shot, second time this has occurred to me with this unit, both times using RAID (mirrored drives), both times BOTH drives failed simultaneously.  I'm about ready to give up on Buffalo and use a different brand going forward.

Why the heck are they booting from, and ALL firmware stored on, the DISKS????    So if the HD fails, these units is GARBAGE???   What the heck were they thinking?    This seems absolutely RIDICULOUS.

So there is no way of booting from a USB stick or something, and reloading the firmware onto new disks?

There's a "pinned" post under the "solved" section with links to instructions for installing the firmware starting with new/blank drives.

There is evidently, no pinned post under solved or even a link to said post in this thread.
Please provide a link so that others may follow along.

It is a firmware issue.  Mine (LS-220DB) started that nonsense. I replaced both hard drives 2x2TB with 2x4TB drives.
Watch this video link;  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owitMatnCsw&t=1099s

I am currently stuck with the Firmware Updater not being able to update the device.
The device firmware was loaded onto the drives by following the video referenced.
NAS Navigator found the device and I was able to update the IP Address to the device.
However, running the Linkstation Firmware Updater, gives me this error:

I get the following message:

     Notice:
"%s" is in emergency mode. Update the firmware or contact technical support. (2022/09/17 16:01:28)

And I am unable to update the firmware on the device via the firmware updater.
