I realize the best solution to a problem isn't to complain or point fingers but I am sorely disappointed with this company and its product. I recently purchased a Buffalo Linkstation LS421DE from a local computer parts store here in Ohio as a simple at home back-up solution and network sharing device. I got it home opened the box, took the harddrives out of my computer and installed them according to the directions that came in the box, and powered it on only to find out, it wipes ALL the data of the drives first! After reading a the directions a little more thoroughly I find small text (ironically print in bold) located on the 'AC Adapter' section of the large page that says "Original data saved on the added drive will be deleted...This seems a REALLY BAD place to put this.
I have 10 yrs. worth of data on these drives, personal files, from music recordings I've done with friends that have since passed away to photo's of loved ones that have passed as well, countless school documents that are now possibly gone forever. I realize now that I should have taken that all into account and I guess read the directions a little more attentively but at the same time why didn't Buffalo Technologies do that when they wrote the directions? It's not just one's and zero's that are being served up on these devices its our memories and lives. If anyone from this company can point me in the right direction of a data recovery program I can use to retrieve my life back, I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks,
