: Special characters corrupts directories
: fArGo October 12, 2008, 02:28:03 PM

Somehow directories containing Swedish charaters corrupt the folder names and makes them imposible to access. I guess it has to do with the language settings on my Terastation Live.

Right now the settings are:

ISO8859-15 Latin 9 Western European Languages with Euro.

Please see screenshot: Click here

Any idea what language options I should use or how to correct this?

I would really appreciate if someone could help me out on this one. I have several Gb of data that is currently inaccessible. Could it be a major firmware bug or bad disc? To me it seams to be a software related...

Only directories containing Swedish letters ĺ, ä, ö are affected.

I have tried changing all the Windows Client Language settings under "Basic" in the webadmin interface.

Many thanks

What unit and what firmware are you running?

Hello Paul,

I'm running a Terastation Live and the latest firmware (214_102).

I have forced a firware reinstallation but that did not solve the problem either.

I will request additional character support in the next firmware please check buffalotech.com for more updates.

The strange thing is that it was working fine before... When is that firmware planned to be released, because I have a lot of data that is inaccessible right now... quickfix?
I wrote to your support and they suggested me exchanging it for a new one. Personally I think that is a waste of time and a lot of hassle since I live in Dubai and aftersales really sux down here.

What region was it purchased in?  Maybe your flashing it with an unsupported firmware?

I am more familiar with the North American firmware, I will set up a ticket for this issue.

What firmware was on the unit when it was working?

Hello Paul,

Ironically I was using the same firmware when it was working so something must have happened.

Thanks

Hi

I have the same problem with an european LS Live 500last updated !

I'm french and my wife is Brazilian. So a lot of my mp3 collection are Frenchand Brazilian and I need verify all MP3 filename before upload to my LS.

The unique way to find a problem is to be connected with ftp and verify each directory and each filename !!!

All accentuation french or Brazilan (Spanish too) disturbe the internal filesystem but NOT samba ;)

Please Buffalo developper, produce a good and final firmware for this vice and the DLNA server which accept a too less number of file (10k) :-(

According to me this is a serious bug - especially since I'm unable to access my data. Buffalo Tech should come out with a quickfix ASAP. Selling hardware on a market that is not compatible with the language is not very trustworthy.

When can we expect a fix?

I have sent this up to our development team, we are testing it now.  I will post again when I get more information.

Thanks for all your help and input on this.

Paul please let me know if you need a description on how to recreate this problem. I could probably send you a "corrupt" directory with a test file.

Here is our reproduction test. Could you confirm it?

Download the firmware(214_102) from BTUS site.
 Update the TeraStationLive.
 Make new folder.
 #We can not input Swedish charaset.(ex, ? ? ?
Make new file and input Swedish charaset.
 Confirm accessibility to this file.

Can you to check the following items.

1.Try to Access Restrictions change Disable
2.Try to  initialize by WebAdmin(if possible)

HartyShow, If you also could help reproduce this bug I would appreciate if you could describe the exact process step by step.

Many thanks

any updates on this thread? i have a linkstation 320GL (firmware 2.10) with exactly the same problem. filenames are corrupted and subsequent ftp directory listings corrupted too after any character over ASCII 127. My specific application is composer names such as Belá Bartók, Carlos Chávez, Fauré...

since you already logged this Paul - is there any chance of a date for a fix? how far down the priority is this? with the recent price drop on this item i would expect a few more calls on this bug!

I live in Finland and we use a lot of a´s and o´s with dots and it is funny that I have never experienced any issues with these directly at any Linkstation I use (LS Live, LS Pro Duo, LS Live w/BT), but indirectly with a Tvico 6500 media player. Even that shows the characters correctly but just declines to show or play any item with these characters.

I'm running Ubuntu Linux 8.10. When using English as default language I noticed missing  "Swedish" characters on my LS Live. Switching to Swedish in Ubuntu solved the problem.

It seams LS does not like certain ASCII or ISO standard. I'm gonna do some ore investigation and get back to you on this but I'm surprised of the lack of response frpn BuffaloTech on this. Cause this is seriouse bug indeed.

Same problem in my TS-III after updating to newest 1.3 firmware. Some users (shared folders) have this same problem.

I have tryed all "Windows Client Language" settings in TS but I cant access to this folders anymore.

I really hope we find some solution soon!
