: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 - issues and problems on DLNA
: bastono July 05, 2012, 09:20:29 PM

FYI, I noticed that new firmware 1.60 has been release in Buffalo Asia and Europe website.

You may download the firmware on the following Buffalo site (outside of US).

http://www.buffalo-technology.com/en/download.html

http://www.buffalo-asia.com/cgi-bin/support/download.cgi?country=ar&to=ls_vl

I was wondering why it's not listed on US site though notification about IP-DTCP 1.6 is listed.

EDIT notes: I changed the topic title to better represent content of discussion...

It will probably be added today, if not then in the next couple of days.

USA Quality Engineering is still testing the USA version - expect this to be released for download early next week on the USA download site.

That's a very good decision to test new firmware before upload it on the forum. I have upgraded my linkstation from 1.58 to 1.60. The upgrade went well and I also updated the DTP from 1.4 to 1.6. With this there's some improvement on the media server. Now my Samsung LED TV can play the video from DLNA with option for forward/backward which wasn't possible on firmware prior to these upgrade. However, I got some serious problem now as the media sever keep disconnected from time to time. Not sure it's the problem from the firmware or DTP. Hope the tech guys at buffalo US can look further about this.

no problems with disconnection on my media server on 1.6 and streaming mkv and avi no problem on my samsung tv :-)

good posts - please let us know specific TV model numbers that are having issues, and supply as much detail (file types) as possible.

Hi All - since installing 1.60 on my 3TB Linkstation Live, AVI files on the device are no longer picked up on my Sony KDL-26EX320. They still show on my PS3 and PC. AVI files are still streaming fine from my PC to the KDL-26EX320, so I don't think it's the TV. The only files streaming from the Linkstation now are MPG, MP4 and MP3. The vast majority of my files on the Linkstation are AVI so this is a real pain, any suggestions on how to fix it would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

what country are you in, and from what country's download did you get this from? Downloading from japan's website can have different FW that from other countries.

If you are a USA/Canada customer, please wait for the USA download for this FW to finish going through QA, and be posted on the USA download site, or you may experience issues due to different regional FW.

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US

I am in the UK, and was prompted to download the update when I accessed Websetting via NASNavigator2- I didn't choose to update as such. Websetting handled the download for me so I don't know which country's file it has used.

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: guschdl July 09, 2012, 03:03:02 PM

I installed the FW update 1.6 to my Linkstation LS/WX2.0TL. There were no problems with the installation.

After the installation the Media Server dosnt work well. After starting a movia via Blu-Ray-Player the movie stops and the player looses the connection to the Linkstation. Watsching the Movie directly via USB on the Blu-Ray-Player works normally.

What can i do ?

Thanks

please specify more details, such as type of movie file being played. What location are you in, from what BT downloads did you download 1.6 from?

The movie is a avi file. I downloaded and installed the update via the linkstation web admin console.

I am in Germany, if this helps

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US

It seems to be not only a problem with avi files. The same problem happens with m2ts files. After a little bit mire than a minute the connection to the linkstation is lost.

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: drmemory July 09, 2012, 05:12:07 PM

yes, all details help, include type of file, your location, what BT site downloaded from, how you installed it. Might be that some of the above issues are caused by by download or install (corrupt) but that is up to support to determine - I'm here to give feedback to the engineers. If anyone is having trouble, please try redownloading and installing one more time, in case of an issue during download or installing, so I can report correctly to the engineers.  Also, use your browser and enter:  IP (of your LS):9050  then to Settings, and tell me what version of Twonky shows up for your LS. 9050 is your Twonky port where the Twonky settings are.

I downloaded and instaklled via web interface and I am stuck at this:

The machine must be restarted to enable the firmware settings. Please wait until the restart process is complete.

It has been well over 10 mins and it is done rebooting.  Now what?

Help?

I downloaded the Firmware manually from support site. When i try to install manually the FW-update i get the following message:

PC and Linkstation Firmware are the same. Updating is not necessary.

How can i reinstall the firmware ?

Ringfinger - which browser, and version number, were you using that wasn't giving you a comopletion notice that the FW had finished loading to the linkstation?

To all readers - if your browser isn't showing completion of the FW upload - please include Browser type and revision of browser.

I had also the problem with the completition notice for restart, my browser is firefox 13.0.1.

This morning i tried to watch movies and it seemed to work normally. I have to try this again and watch a movie for a longer time.

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: allmaster July 10, 2012, 10:30:39 AM

I didn't use the browser for the update!

I downloaded the archive "LS-series-fw160_fwwin.zip”, unpacked, launched the executable, and when it has finished, it said that it worked.

Now I've tried to reset to factory default but nothing has changed.... avi file are still unreachable from my SONY BRAVIA TV

I'm seriously thinking of downgrading the firmware to the previous stable version (1.57)

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: mjs2012 July 10, 2012, 11:11:33 AM

If downgrading to 1.57 is an option I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how to do it- I have experienced the exact same issue with my Sony TV since installing 1.60

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: allmaster July 10, 2012, 12:04:25 PM

It works .... :D

but the led now it's always orange (because it detects the update online) and I feel blue 'cause I like the blue :-(

to downgrade you need the zip file of 1.57 version and then modify "LSUpdater.ini" to set flags VersionCheck = 0

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: Taxandra July 10, 2012, 12:57:57 PM

after upgrading my LS-WX4.0TL to 1.60, more than half of the movies will not play annymore

I use a Samsung bd-d5100 blueray

It also gets disconected all the time

: After Upgrade to 1.60 new avi files don't show in directory on Samsung TV
: mikeprocess July 10, 2012, 04:44:52 PM

I have a LS-CHL1.0TL   After upgrading to firmware 1.60 it seems that any new avi files I download don't show up on my Samsung TV Model #: UN40D6000SFXZC.  It's almost like the directory list on the TV isn't refreshing?  (old files before the download still show up and are accessible)  My MP3 files show up on the TV but not the new AVI ones.  I use Windows 7 and see them on the computer.  I also have a Patriot Box Office Media Player and the files DO show up on it's directory...just not on my Samsung TV.

If I put the new AVI files in the "recorded TV" directory on my computer my Samsung TV then sees them and they can be played.  But not from the LS-CHL1.0TL.

I'd be interested in a link to the old 1.57 firmware.  What's been posted so far for a link just takes one to the new firmware.  Thanks all

: Re: After Upgrade to 1.60 new avi files don't show in directory on Samsung TV
: drmemory July 10, 2012, 04:47:16 PM

how much time have you waited for the new AVI files to be reindexed into the LS index of files? This can take several hours.

: Re: After Upgrade to 1.60 new avi files don't show in directory on Samsung TV
: mikeprocess July 10, 2012, 04:50:31 PM

Thanks for the reply.  It's been 24 hours since I upgraded the firmware to 1.60.  Is their a manual way to refresh or reindex?

: Re: After Upgrade to 1.60 new avi files don't show in directory on Samsung TV
: drmemory July 10, 2012, 04:52:38 PM

depends on the LS model - a mod can help with that question - how long has it been since you loaded more AVI files?

The 1.60 LS firmware releases are identical in all areas of the world (except for language with some)

To reflash, follow the Force Firmware sticky at the top of the Storage Board - the most important part is to change the flag in the ini file to 0, from 1, to allow you to reflash the same FW to the unit, in case of a bad FW update.

There is a Update List option in the media server part of the FW. This should force the media/movies/etc to update faster.

After udating the firmware to 1.6 the build in torrent client on the Buffalo linkstation stoped working (seed & peers 0).

I switched off/ on the torrent client and did also the "initialize bittorrent setings"

Nothing works- seed & peers are still for all torrent files 0.

Please advise what to do.

: bthoven July 13, 2012, 05:49:01 AM

Torrent also won't work. Try  initialize torrent setting and reboot. Still not downloading any torrents.. What should I do?

update 15 July 2012: it is now working. I still don't know why. What I did was reset the whole NAS to factory default, afterwhich it still didn't work; but now it is working!

update 16 June: it can't download again. Seeding the downloadedfiles are working. Strange!

Well it would appear everyone is experiencing the same issues. Me too. Any fixes?? I don't want to revert to the previous firmware but do I have a choice? A lot of my avi files no longer show on my samsung and sony blu-ray players, but some of them are working. And doing a rebuild of the database in twonky does not bring them back. I'm also not able to watch a lot of mp4 video files anymore, that I have watched before on these players.

The linkstation is also CONSTANTLY disconnecting. This is unacceptable!!! Is there a fix??

: LinkStation firmware 1.60 : avi recognized as mpeg2
: azaghul July 15, 2012, 02:08:16 AM

Had the amber light flashing on my LS, announcing a new firmware release. Upgraded to 1.60 and Twonky 6.0.42-dev.

All avi video files (xvid) are now recognized as mpeg2 (via DLNA) and fail to play on my Sony Bravia. The same files are correctly recognized as avi when directly attached to the Bravia via USB key. MP3 files are no longer found.

Have downgraded to LS 1.57, but no change. Twonky version is still at 6.0.42-dev.

Location is Australia, upgrade to 1.60 was via the LS.

Any advice welcome.

Edit1: Is there any way to downgrade Twonky?

Edit2: Rolled back to 1.58 which includes Twonky 4.4.19_e2...all now appears to work correctly. Looks like it could be a Twonky issue...

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: Plukius July 15, 2012, 04:20:21 AM

I have the following problem after the upgrade to firmware 1.60:

I access the Linkstation as a mediaserver via my WD TV Live mediaplayer. I can view all avi movies just fine, also the music plays just fine.

However, the pictures show up really bad, which means a very low resolution: pictures with an average file size of 2MB show up only in "thumbnail" version. When look at the properties of the picture displayed, it tells that the file size is only 12kB...

When I double check the picture with sambamount on my pc, then it shows the correct 2MB size image.

So the problem is not with the stored pictures, they are still there. My guess is that the Twonky mediaserver is not correctly handling the picture towards the WD mediaplayer.

Is there a way to check this, and to fix the problem? I didn't have this problem before with the older firmware.

I bought the Linkstation in the Netherlands, and the firmware update was installed automatically via the Linkstation webinterface.

Thanks!

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: guschdl July 15, 2012, 05:54:35 AM

Rebuilding the database via Twonky did not help. Same problem like before, Blu-Ray-Player disconnects from LS after a while.

I think also the DLNA Update is the problem, and not 1.6 Firmware.

Whe need a solution, please.

Yes we do. In the meantime, I did the downgrade to 1.57 and all is well again. But I like the new features of the twonky update, but I can live without that so long as my linkstation isn't disconnecting constantly anymore!

Hi All, Can someone please advise the proper settings for my NAS getting the torrent client to work. It has worked fine with previous fw 1.57.

Updated to 1.60 and I could not get torrent client to work.

LS-CHL-1.0TB FW 1.57 (briefly 1.60)

I "tried" to force it back to fw 1.57 seemed to work but I cannot get the torrent client working properly anymore and I've started to doubt my settings.

Please look at following screen shots and advise which settings I should use.

NAS network settingsTorrent UIRouter settingsRouter

Please advise... Thank you.

The bittorrent problem is also discussed in another thread:

http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Bittorent-not-Working-after-Firmware-update/td-p/80757/page/5

Seems to be widespread and no solution yet. It only affect magnet links without http trackers. Torrent files still works if they contain active trackers.

Kinda pissed off about this as everything was working perfectly and from what I can remember the update mentioned something about SMB security ? I am only going by what I saw in the box b efore I updated via the Linkstations webpage

I hope a new update comes soon !

Hi All

I can confirm that the above mentioned roll back to firmware 1.58 with Twonky version 4.4.19_e2 fixes the issue of the Linkstation disconecting after about 30-40 minutes on a samsung T.V

Happy Days

just spoke with buffalo Aus and told them that 1.6 was cake and thy should remove it from the web.  the guy said he would call Japan and inform them  and he also suggested that 1.61 may come out ..but didnt know when

I think a 1.61 version didn't solve the problem of DLNA 'cause if the trouble are in the new Twonky server

after many tries, i read in post, where they say force the network ip in linkstation web setting, it can works.

after forcing my linkstation network IP, torrent seems to work again for now.

go to web settings, login, then choose Network --> Settings

enter the fixed ip and DNS, i put opendns (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)

Re-initialize the bittorent again, torrent seems to download again!

will try again tomorrow and update again.

For me, the issue was been a halving of speed of access since 1.6.

I have just had to downgrade to 1.58 as it has become unusable on the network.

Now everything is back to normal again.

Roll on 1.7!

yes, we are working on it, customers need to let us know if they are using magnet links, private trackers, or regular torrents when reporting issues.

I too have upgraded to 1.60 and I'm problems with my Sony TV not finding the avi files.

Firmware: 1.60

Twonkey: 6.0.34-dev

turning off DHCP, and adding open DNS (208.67.222.222) got both magnet links and improved my speed (had an non magnet torrent downloading before)  twice the speed it was before,

1TB linkstation, CHL v2, firmware 1.57

At the moment I have a PS3 also connected to the TV, so losing the media server on the TV doesn't cause too much of a problem.

Having said that, it would be nice to watch the TV without the noise and heat the PS3 (fat model) produces.

I don't fancy rolling back the firmware so I'll wait for 1.61 and hope they have a fix for it.

I'm pretty impressed with this buffalo linkstation NAS so far.

How to solve it?

I'm using the 1.60 firm ware.

: dt-ls August 01, 2012, 06:09:33 PM

I have this exact same issue (JS error: [778] Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '262' of null), but have not upgraded to the new firmware. I'm on 1.56 and I use normal torrent files, not magnetic links. I've tried switching DHCP off (suggested above), but still get the error. Also tried a reboot of both my router and my LS-CHL - nothing fixes it. I have noticed that not all torrents fail.

Right-Clicking on the torrent once in BT and going to properties, adding udp://tracker.1337x.org:80/announce gets it going.

Thanks

Ok , I just bought a new modem/router, tried downloading a few torrents on the buffalo and they all worked at top speed!

I was thinking maybe it was just a problem with my old modem , but reading this thread I see that I am not alone?

Question , if the firmware isnt the issue , and nothing is being updated on the nas, how are these things just working , then not working , then working again

anyone thought that one through?

Hello,

same problem with Firmware 1.60 of Buffalos Europe Website. Using Terratecs Noxon 90elf Internet Radio over W-LAN: Media Server can not be found at first time. Even a restart of LinkStation Duo or Speedport Router doesn't fix that. Using same Device over LAN: Media Server can be found but the mp3-files play just a few moments, then disconnects. LinkStation sometimes appears in the menu on the radio, sometimes it seems the LinkStation is unable to grant access to the Noxon device.

Using the Bluray Player BD-C5500 of Samsung with the newest Firmware (don't know what Version that is): Playback via LAN of .wmv- and avi.-Files also run for a while but then the video stops and an error message from Player appears "No connection to media server". The BD-C5500 is directly connected via Ethernet Switch to the LinkStation.

Now it's my job to fix that and install Version 1.57 for now...

Hope this informations will help you. Excuse my bad english, i tried my best :)

Kind regards from Germany

Patrick

For customers on FW1.60 and can't play AVI files from their Linkstation to a TV, Please email me your TV manufacturer, model number, and TV firmware revision (if you can't find the revision - send the other details and I'll find out how to determine the FW version). Also, send details about the AVI file - purchased, converted from another type of video file, etc.  Send to drmemory@buffalotech.com

It happened to me on firmware 1.60. Try downgrading to firmware 1.57 or 1.58 and it solve the problem.

In fact, I am currently using 1.57, but the media server / twonky are updated to 1.60.

For me, this is the best combination that works so far..

Has anyone updated to the new firmware?

Hi,

I have upgraded my linkstation from 1.57 to 1.61

One change on the media server: The admin interface on 9000 port doesnt work anymore :-(

My problem is that there was an option (something related with extended presentation, dont remembrer exactly the name), and with this option off, my dlna radio sort the music alphabetically. (it's a chinese clone of many reciva radio)  And without access to this specific twonky interface, the ability to customize this behavior is very poor on the nas admin interface...

Maybe the twonky interface is now on another port ? I will try a portscan...

That's really not possible:

I downloaded the FW Update 1.62 and executed it. After a while i got the following error:

"Confirmation failed.

The Linkstations Firmware kernel [2012/06/08 11:02:05] does not match the intended version kernel [2012/09/10 18:01:26].

The Firmware update may have failed."

If i retry the update routine, it says that my admin password is incorrect. That's not possible.

What ist the problem now ?

When i try the update via the web interface, the answer ist that there ist no update available.

It'snot possibile that there are allways problems with the FW-Updates. Make my DLNA-Server work again please...........

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: guschdl September 25, 2012, 02:54:23 PM

Download file was corrupted. New downolad and the update worked.

Now i want to see if the problem with the connectionsto DLNA-Server are resolved.

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: guschdl September 26, 2012, 07:02:36 AM

The update to FW 1.62 worked well.

The problem that my Blu-Ray Player loses the connection to the Linkstation after a few minutes is still there. The only difference is that the error message now is in German.

Really great job Buffalo, respect.

Now there is only one solution for me: i will throw out of the window my Linkstation and buy a new NAS.

The new NAS will surely not be a Buffalo.

: pbryd September 27, 2012, 02:29:10 AM

I've updated my linkstation live with 1.62 and now it won't power down.

I clicked 'shut down' in the browser window and confirmed it then went to bed.

This morning the blue light was still flashing on the front so I had to use the switch on the power lead to turn if off properly.

I think I'll be reverting back to 1.60

Ok I'm stuck. I have a few firmware versions to roll back to but can't find the instructions.

If I run the firmware program is just says there's no linkstation that needs updating.

Help me roll back to 1.58

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: pbryd September 27, 2012, 05:38:42 AM

Those of you who may want to rollback firmware you'll need to unpack the zip file for the fw you want.

Then you'll need to alter an .ini file so the installer doesn't check for which fw it's downgrading from.

Thanks to allmaster in post 12 for this info...

"to downgrade you need the zip file of 1.57 version and then modify "LSUpdater.ini" to set flags VersionCheck = 0"

: Re: New LinkStation firmware 1.60 has been released... outside of US
: pbryd September 27, 2012, 05:56:09 AM

Well that's me rolled back from 1.62 to 1.57 and I won't be upgrading the firmware again.

1.60 failed to stream the AVI files to my Sony TV

1.62 failed to stream the AVI files to my Sony TV and wouldn't shut down the linkstation properly (flashing blue light).

My next NAS won't be a Buffalo - I'll build a Freenas server box instead.

I tried to downgrade the FW to 1.57 as told me from Buffalo and as described in the forum.

After the Update i got the following message: "LinkStation has booted up as an emergency mode. Updating may be failure. Please reboot the LinkStation and confirm it boots up."

I rebooted the LinkStation by switching it off an on and confirmed with OK. Now it's still in emergency mode. I tried to reset the LinkStation, now the power LED is on and the Function LED still blinks."

The admin page can't be opened. what can i do ?

I need urgently help.

Hi.

I've been just reading this forum, and got the impression that LS-CHL v2 could be upgraded to 1.62. As far as I can see, 1.60 is the latest version, and this product has been discontinued.. True?

And 1.62 updater doesn't find my LinkStation.

Will the firmware for LS-CHL (V2) be fixed? I was waiting for a fix for the DLNA server before upgrading. The latest firmware is not stable enough as proven by the reports in this thread and therefore needs to be fixed but nothing has been published/announced for a while.
