Forum members, I have some good news for you. You should see an update to Twonky 6.0.34 in firmware 1.58 due for release in the June time frame if there are no delays for  LS-XHL, LS-WXL, LS-WSXL, LS-VL, LS-WVL, LS-QVL models.

Superb!

Is there a list of features which we'll see in this version compared to the current one?

Great news! How will this come? Through the twonky, the nas web configuration interface or a separate firmware download?

Firmware 1.58 is available now in some Buffalo official website (i.e. Asian and US site).

The release notes only indicate fixing on Media Server update issue and no further information about Twonky.

Can anybody confirm if the new firmware is included the update for Twonky?

[Firmware Release Note]* Ver.1.58 [2012.4.19]  - Fixed an issue appearing "Media Server update can not be updated completely" warning and error message when configration Media Server.* Ver.1.57 [2012.3.22]  - Fixed an issue the header of email notification includes bad timestamp.  - Fixed an issue formatting of newly added disk fails.  - Fixed an issue the firmware installation fails on the enclosure model.

It means the 1st post is false. :-)

Probably he refers to the next firmware update... 1.59 or 1.60.

Hope the admin who created this topics can confirm it.

"due for release in the June time frame i"

as far as I know currently we have April - but I am not sure, maybe someone can confirm or if I slept too long and we are already in June ???

Seems Buffalo inserted an extra update last days, so update in June time frame may  be 1.59 or 1.60 or 1.61.

Hi, I've been looking for forums on this.

I've just bought a Linkstation Live LS-X1.0TL-EU and want to get Twonky on there.

Will this next Firmware update include the LS-XL or not? Still trying to figure out what the difference is betwenn LS-XHL and LS-XL.

Thanks.

Thank you, Buffalo Tech for the new Linkstation Pro Duo firmware v1.58 for LS-WVL/E  which I have recently upgraded from.

uname -aLinux LS-WVL0XX 2.6.31.8 #1 Fri Apr 6 14:14:26 JST 2012 armv5tel unknown

However, I realize that when I try to create a new folder (read-and-write-able) for example "users" from the root of /mnt/array1 and try to make it accessible to Windows users via samba installed by default in LS-WVL, the Windows clients are only able to browse/read the folder and execute any file from it but they cannot write to it. Because of the issue, the Windows user will get "Access is denied" for error message "Unable to create new folder".

LinkStation web gui - shared folders

Linkstation web gui - shared folders - users

Access denied when creating a new sub-folder under newly-created users folder

I think next time, the Linkstation firmware designer needs to make sure the smb.conf created at /etc/samba by LinkStation program /usr/local/sbin/nas_configgen should include samba parameter write list = <list of samba users and groups> when writeable = yes via Linkstation web GUI.

In addition, the newly created folder must be correctly assigned the correct Linux group permission when it is configured via Linkstation web GUI. The best is to use the default hdusers group since Linkstation will update the users under this group as well. The Linux user permission shall be default to root user with chmod -R 777.

/etc/samba/smb.conf
[users]    comment = user personal folders    path = /mnt/array1/users    browsable = yes    printable = no    writable = yes    valid users = user1, user2, @hdusers    read list = user1, user2, @hdusers    write list = user1, user2, @hdusers    force create mode = 775    force security mode = 775    force directory mode = 777    force directory security mode = 777    csc policy = manual    vfs objects = recycle, audit    recycle:repository = trashbox    recycle:keeptree = 1    recycle:versions = 1    recycle:directory_mode = 777    recycle:minsize = 1    audit:facility = LOCAL6    audit:priority = INFO
###users###

Suggested Linux user/group permission setup:

ls -al /mnt/array1/*drwxr-xr-x    9 root     root          106 Jun 22 00:28 .drwxrwxrwx    8 root     root         4096 Jun 21 22:41 ..dr-x------    5 root     root           52 May 28  2011 .hierophantdr-x------   10 root     root          136 Jun 16 10:38 .midbeansdrwx------    2 root     root           22 Jun 21 22:41 mt-daapddrwxrwxrwx    8 root     root          140 Jun 21 22:27 sharedrwxr-xr-x    5 root     root           41 Jun 16 01:10 spooldrwxrwxrwx    4 root     hdusers        37 Jun 21 23:24 users

LinkStation samba view from a Windows SMB client

 Users folder

This configuraton must be persistent whenever Linkstation is rebooted.

Other related issue is that the users are also unable to do create a sub-folder under the newly created folder via Linkstation FTP service. It is probably due to incorrect user write permission setting for the FTP service by Linkstation.

Response:    257 "/array1/users" is the current directoryStatus:    Creating directory '/array1/users/New directory'...Command:    MKD New directoryResponse:    550 New directory: Permission deniedCommand:    MKD /array1/users/New directoryResponse:    550 /array1/users/New directory: Permission denied

Currently, it is set as followed at /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf by LinkStation program /usr/local/sbin/nas_configgen with duplicated names (bug?) when it should allowUser under hdusers and AllowGroup hdusers group as well...

/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf<Directory /mnt/array1/users>  <Limit ALL>    DenyAll    AllowUser admin,user1,user2    AllowGroup hdusers    AllowUser user1,user2,user1,user2,nobody  </Limit>  <Limit READ>    AllowUser admin,user1,user2    AllowGroup hdusers    AllowUser user1,user2,user1,user2,nobody  </Limit>  <Limit WRITE>    Order deny,allow    DenyUser admin,user1,user2    DenyGroup hdusers    DenyUser user1,user2,user1,user2,nobody    DenyAll  </Limit></Directory>

Thank you.

There has been a delay in releasing FW 1.6x for the linkstations in the Subject line. Our engineers are stating FW 1.6x will be released in mid-July. The engineers and quality depts state that the update will include the Twonky update.

We apologize for the delay; some difficulties were found in the FW code, and these needed to be resolved before releasing this update to our customers.

Next thing is to let users have serial access to U-boot.

It will make these devices far more interesting to be able to make own alterations ...

Firmware 1.60 has been released and I was wondering why it's not listed on Buffalo US site.

Anyway, you can get the firmware on Buffalo Asia's or Europe's website.

I just downloaded it and have not had any chance to update my Linkstation.

I believe we will get the update of IP-DTCP v1.6 after ugrading to firmware 1.60.

I have not tried the new firmware v1.6 on my LS-WVL.

I've read the README of the firmware v1.6 and it says

[Note]Version 1.60 [2012.7.5]- fixes several Samba security problems (CVE-2012-1182).

Is that all?

Hi, I just got my new LS-XHL yesterday. I bought it, because it supports Squeezebox Server. Unfortunately firmware version 1.56 only has an old version of SBS (7.5x), which seems to have some bugs (scanning files fails on certain file names) and it causes my Squeezebox Touch to downgrade its firmware everytime I switch between mysqueezebox.com and the SBS on the Buffalo NAS. Will the new firmware coming out mid July contain an up-to-date version of Squeezebox Server? This would be great news. :-) I'm also unsure about the SBS setting to check for updates on mysqueezebox.com every day. Is it meant to function in the context of the Buffalo NAS? It would be idea, but if it would work, it should have notified me about the newer version 7.7x already, which it didn't. Thanx for your help... flaccer

Yes it does, it is the software used to control the media server on the unit.

Thanks for the info.

But how can one tell which version is installed?

And how can one update (if needed)?

In my unit I don't see the 'Update DTCP-IP' in the web-management (as described in the 'media server update procedure')....

Firmware is 1.58.

Sorry to reply on my own message.

But (after finding out about Twonky is on port 9050 and how to re-enable that port in Firefox...) I found out this rather strange behaviour of LS firmware "updates and downgrades": I had firmware 1.58 installed, but there was no option for DTCP-IP-updates (which, some readme-file o,n the Buffalo-site tells me, also will update the Twonky server).

So I forced a downgrade to firmware 1.57. Tried the  DTCP-IP update: keeps saying "downloading" until an error-message pops up 'connect to the internet' (there is another thread about that I saw, so I had to stop trying.Connection to the internet is 100% fine.)

But now I have Twonky 6.0.42-dev.

I re-updated the firmware to 1.58. DTCP-IP entry is missing again, and... Twonky server is back to 4.4.19, the "very old" one, with less capabilities.

I thought buying this Buffalo LS Duo Pro was clever, but I start feeling regret I did. What the * is this when firmware updates do downgrades and downgrades do (partial) updates. And reading all the "good news" about firmware version 1.60 (which should be removed from the site, a Buffalo spokesman seems to have said, but is still there and seems unable to play .AVIs)....

I've seen and handled a load of bad hardware and loust firmware, and I hoped Buffalo would do better (because I read some good reviews about these NASs, but I better had found this forum before buying).

I hope Buffalo gets things right with a next firmware. Soon.

(I have a LS-WVL Pro Duo 2TB, Windows 7 64bit, never tried the torrent-squeezbox-iTunes-stuff so I can't comment on those. I just want a reliable DLNA-compliant media-server to stream some video/music/photos).

With firmware 1.6 I finally have twonky's webinterface on the LS-WVL. In 1.58, It was not there on port 9050.

However..... Twonky should have a flash interface. At least there is a link in the left hand menu bar. This, however gives a 404 error

What version of Twonky is there in FW 1.6 ?

(Visible on the :9050 page, if it's there;-) )

I still don't like the idea to 'upgrade' to FW 1.6, read bad things about it. And if this update includes a downgrade of Twonky again (as the 1.58 version did in relation to FW .157) I think an answer/reaction of Buffalo should be here. As should a decent firmware-update with a decent Twonky (and the interface enabled etc etc). Asap.
