Hmmm.
I downloaded the new firmware and tried to update the firmware to my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH (USA Model) which was bought from Newegg about 6 months ago.
Says it is NOT a valid file? I checked the file and it does not even have a .BIN extension to it.
Did Buffalo not upload the proper image?
I am currently running firmware DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896. This file when downloaded from DDWRT did have the .BIN extension.
Anyone have a similar problem, experiences?
I downloaded and unzipped the file, and sure enough, the file does NOT have the .BIN extension (I don't allow Windows to hide extensions, so I'm certain of this). I don't have the router yet, so I can't try this myself, but you could try adding the .BIN by renaming the file, and see if that lets you install the update. Good luck!
*don't rename the file*use the instructions in the text file*drmemory
I thought about renaming it, then thought about it again, because if it is NOT the right file I could damage the unit.
So I will wait till Buffalo itself uploads the proper file (if it is incorrect).
Thanks
Start with Buffalotech FW (not 3rd party FW)
You update through the WZR GUI, not the FW file. There are instructions for upgrading in the txt file. Do not expect to find a bin file with this kind of FW update. In the GUI, point to the FW update file, and update from the GUI.
If you have an older FW like 1.6, you may find it easier to upgrade to Buffalo DDWRT, if you update to the latest 1.74 FW first.
Sure ... I was hoping to help out, but if it could be damaged by an incorrect file, then I can understand the caution, and rightfully so. We all know firmware update failures have toasted more than one piece of hardware ...
I would guess that one of the Buffalo techs ought to notice the problem you've listed here, and get it fixed. BTW, I did read their instructions, but nothing was written about renaming the file. I hope they're quick about fixing the issue!
read my post above - don't rename the file.
I am not exactly sure what you mean by "update by WZR GUI".
I thought thats what I did with it and not to mention with the other DDWRT Firmware's.
I go to 192.168.1.1 >Administration >Firmware Upgrade, browse for the firmware and hit upgrade.
I mentioned renaming, but I should have said ADD the .BIN extension to the file from Buffalo.
do this
Clear your browser cache (especially if you've been looking all through the GUI and at the FW update)
I go to 192.168.1.1 >Administration >Firmware Upgrade, browse for the firmware and hit upgrade.
and don't close the browser window until finished. do not rename the file or add .bin to the file name.
Alright.... I will explain again.
I downloaded the NEW wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 last night from my desktop, tried to upgrade and it was then that it said "Invalid file".
So, I re-downloaded the file again this afternoon about 3:30pm, tried to upgrade from my laptop (wireless), looked like it was going to work, then it gave me a different error. This time is said "upgrade failed".
I will clear everything again and try again.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Let us know how you make out on this. Maybe when you try again you should have your laptop hard wired to the router when you do the upgrade ...
OK...as of 4:43 pm I have tried 5 times to update the firmware and each time it says "upgrade failed.
On the last 2 tries I have rebooted the router as well as my laptop, done it wired and wireless, cleared the cache on it and yet the same result.
I am at a loss as I am pretty technical, not to mention I have upgraded the WZR with other DDWRT firmware.
Again, I am already using firmware DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896, so maybe it wont update from this?
we haven't tested upgrading from anything but Buffalo FW. Please change to the stock Buffalo FW 1.74, and update from that.
the text notes say to first hardwire your router to your computer.
don't ever do a FW upgrade wirelessly!!!
whats the procedure for flash back from buffalo dd-wrt to user friendly firmware?
To revert to stock firmware you need a copy of wzrg300nh_original I found a copy over at the dd-wrt forums you have to be logged in to download it but you can use the web updater to flash back to stock.
never mind i managed to revert back to the user-friendly firmware, all you need to do is download the 1.74 firmware from buffalo site and just flash from the dd-wrt interface.
OK...Been a few days.
Looking over some of the posts and this one, can anyone tell me if this new updated firmware is any better?
I was trying to upgrade from my current one ( DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896 ) to the new one from Buffalo Tech ( wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 ).
I have not reverted to the old 1.74 in order to install the new FW as of yet because I have not had any issues with my current DDWRT so far, but I havent used certain features such as mounting USB drives. I thought it would have a few more features built into them such as NTFS support.
Anyways...anyone?
Fw wzrg300nh_original.bin not up to the original Fw Buffalo is, why do not fw.bin, principal of Buffalo Fw up too hard
way up from the DD-WRT Fw Fw wzrhpg300nh-up pro-v24sp2-14998 was not
I don't mean to be rude, but I have no idea what you are saying.
This is what i have try..
my original firmware is stock 1.74
flash the wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 firmware via the firmware update page.
The error message i get is invalid firmware file.
flash via a wired network..
the new official dd-wrt firmware is really crappy,.,
buffalo admin if you are reading this ..please do something about this..

Got the same problem I'm using stock 1.74 us firmware, cannot update to dd-wrt official but I can reflash 1.74 without any problem however, when upload dd-wrt ofiicial it say invalid file.
still no updates from admin on this faulty firmware?
The firmware works fine, stop being noobs :) I installed it yesterday without any problems at all. But i was amazed to see that this was only the ddwrt firmware with a buffalo logo :) No feature for torrents or even network shares :(
you are very lucky then! In the last 24 hrs i had to restart the router 3-4 times. Older fw from dd-wrt were rock solid :(
since you are so pro you might want to tell me what is going wrong.? Please dont leave any unconstructive criticism... the screen shot says it all..an error is an error
I'm not sure what you should do, but you should but at least write your hardware revision when posting an error.
I was merely implying that the error your having does not concern everyone. Sorry for calling you a noob lol. If we have the same hardware rev. i might be able to help you out ;)
My hardware revision is B0 C0
No torrents or network shares? Then what is this firmware good for..?:smileysad:
my hardware revision is b0 c0
I just took delivery of one of these today. It came with 1.72 firmware (hardware revision B0 C0). I've sucessfully upgraded to 1.74, however every attempt to upgrade to wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 has resulted in "Invalid firmware, rebooting!"
Just to cover all bases, I've:
- downloaded three times (sha1sum of the zip: 0c69b4b04e45a246c74d15bde6067629089a9a7b ; sha1sum of the firmware: 76b24c599f79cb0cb17e08f754b0954bf1ef0445)
- tried three browsers (IE8, FF 3.6.9, Chrome 6)
- cleared cache on all
- tried two pcs and one laptop
All were wired directly to the WHZ-HP-G300NH
Edit: I should mention that every attempt was made exactly as stated in the "howto_update_ap.html" included in the wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998.zip
Is there going to be support for 40Mhz? Only 20Mhz right now it seems...
It's there, From the wireless network mode choose NG-Mixed, then You Must click on save before the 40Mhz Turbo mode will show up, Then you will be able to choose what channel to use.Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Is there a way to enable a USB NAS formatted XFS on it?
Invalid firmware, rebooting!!
Same here.
Please fix it asap.
Even though I love DD-WRT, I wont upgrade to this until there is support for torrents - this was my main reason for buying the router and losing it would be a backward step. Are there any plans to introduce this to a later firmware?
i even post the invalid firmware issue on buffalo facebook but it seems that buffalo support staff font bother replying...
Buffalo Facebook is run by marketing, and they forward requests to support, but facebook is mainly for marketing.
Please post questions here for customers and mods to answer, or call your local support if an answer is needed faster.- Admin
there is newer firmware out on the dd-wrt site, build 15279 or so.
the advisory on the new ddwrt 15279 is don't touch with a 10' pole, nobody has gotten this to work properly with any router.
Got the same problem as described above.
First I tried to upgrade from version 1.72 to the Buffalo DD-WRT firmware. But then I got the invalid file error message. I thought that it had something to do with version 1.72, so I tried to upgrade to version 1.74. And it flashed successfully. Then again, I tried to flash the Buffalo DD-WRT firmware, but with no luck. Same error message.
FYI: I have downloaded the firmware a couple of times in case something was corrupt. I have also tried to reset the router to the factory settings and then flash the firmware. Tried to flash the firmware using different browsers and computers. My hardware revision is also B0 C0.
Hope this problem will get solved soon!
one of you in the USA, please call the USA support line - we have not been able to duplicate the issue at Buffalotech USA. Once we find out what is different between your environment and router and ours, we can post a fix to it.
USA support 866-752-6210
Ask the support person to forward the information to drmemory@buffalotech.com (BT Support Mgr) and I'll post it.
You did not state - did you unzip the installer package?

I unzipped the downloaded archive and uploaded the wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 file to the router.
I'm just wondering, is there a difference between routers for the Asia Pacific market and the USA market? Or is the firmware specifically designed to not install on routers from Asia Pacific. I'm also facing the same problem of invalid file when updating to the DD-WRT firmware from Buffalo. The label containing the SSID has B0 C0 above it as well but I'm not sure if that is the hardware revision. The serial number of my router is 44047700400888.
Does anyone have update on this?
I tried to upgrade from Ver.1.79 and the same invalid firmware. Mine is B0 C0, too.
Thanks
Same here, I cant seem to get the Buffalo DD-WRT to install. I have re-initialized my firmware and tried mutliple times, with no success.
Current version : Ver.1.76 (R2.01/B1.07)
Btw, I installed to the newest Alpha of DD-WRT on the Buffalo site, with no problems...
Hello everyone ;)
Is anyone using the WZR-HP-G300NH_pro-v24sp2-19484-beta on this device, just checking if is working "stable" and if this firmware has the samba GUI on it ?
19484 working great here, although i dont use the wireless side of this router but everything else seems to be working fine. considerably faster gui compared to previous build.
Hey thanks.
I'm going to give it a try this weekend, and see if this firmware works fine on my hardware.
P.S: One thing I notice is that the file I'm downloading (the zip), it says its modifed on this date(specified below), so this would make it like a new beta realease?
file info from FTP:
WZR-HP-G300NH_pro-v24sp2-19484-beta.zip

I just updated to V24-SP2 build 19484 beta and all seemed to work well. I like the change to the NAS with adding samba. I connected my NTFS drive and it read it with no issues. Glad i dont have to reformat my drive anymore. One issue i noticed is when I connect 2 machines to the ports on the router, they are unable to see each other. Ping does not resolve, neither does \\pc-name\sharefolder. Anyone have this issue and if so, any solution?
Thanks,
RC
Is Buffalo aware of the issue where wired LAN clients are unable to see each other and is there an eta when a fix will be released?
I know this is a bug but it would be nice if this can become a feature like a port based VLAN when needed
No, they probably aren't aware of it, as it would seem you to be the only one with the issue, i can see my LAN clients fine, wired or wireless. Also for the record, switch ports are all bridged, regardless of even if there is a working firmware or not (i use 2 bricked units for dumb switches now) switch ports are un-managed and are all a pass thru to each other, they are only managed when you config the firmware in the router to manage them. So as i said, it would appear that you are the only one with this issue that i have seen report it...
buddee, are you using wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-19484-beta? Try having your wired LAN pc ping another wired LAN pc and see if you get a response.
You don't seem to get what i'm saying here, it doesn't matter what build i'm using, switches (yes the wired physical LAN ports) are all connected (bridged) as a pass thru to each other, even if there is NO build on the unit whatsoever. switch lan ports are not managed in any way unless you specify the firmware to manage them. So i would say its in either your LAN setup (some kind of blocking app such as firewall or not mapped out correctly in your LAN setup with active shares, you don't have the gateway IP entered into the client machine etc.) or something other, but i am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the actual physical port mappings themselves.. as i said, i can see both my wired and wireless machines just fine. Also as i said, don't you find it rather odd that you are the only one with this issue? No one else has reported this kind of finding..
Buddee, Ping works from wireless cliento to a wired client and vice versa. But if you try wired to wired client, no ping response. That is why I was asking you whether you tried a wired to wired client ping. If you read the another post like badrc, he also has the same issue.
Other users are also unable to see LAN to LAN clients. http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Wireless/Best-Firmware-for-Buffalo-WZR-HP-G300NH-is-here/td-p/84203/page/7
I transfer files from wired to wired LAN connections quite frequently, as i said, i don't have an issue with wired to wired clients on my g300nh, as far as just doing a ping is concerened, no, i never checked to see if there is a response from wired to wired machines, i always figured if i can transfer files from one wired machine to another, a ping test becomes pretty irrelavant.. because you can have a firewall setting that will block ICMP ping requests..
Sorry buddee, but this is definitely a problem. Neither the latest Buffalo firmware, nor the latest brainslayer firmware, will allow me to connect with my other machines wired to the network. Never had an issue before. Looks like I'll be rolling back until this is fixed.
More people with this problem:
Meh, perhaps you should file a ticket in the dd-wrt trac, and provide plenty of info (pics etc.) regarding the matter. I see multiple users have the problem, but then again, i also see many users that have bought this router don't have this problem. I am one of the users that does not have this problem.
I called them but they were not aware of it so they just told me to restore the firmware that is not beta ver 14xxx.
