: trondf September 30, 2008, 09:10:36 AM
Hi, I have a terastation pro ii that shows TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image in the display... Is there a way to get it up and running again????
: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image

Procedure

ftp://24.153.165.234/disk1/share/nas-recovery

Before the NAS pulls the filesAfter the NAS pulls the files
Make sure the software is "Listening On: 192.168.11.1"
If it does not you must stop the software and restart it.

Help- I've done the same thing with a Terastation Pro firmware ver. 1.04.

I sold the drives out of it and replaced them- what a dumba$$ I am. Now I find out that my boot image walked out the door with the drives.

I don't see a TFTP version for the TS Pro- can I use any standard TFTP server to send it a file?

: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image
: dn1982 January 27, 2009, 04:36:33 PM

I cannot connect to my Linkstation Pro Duo via TFTP.  It hangs at 'accepting 'requests' and does not send the files.  I have set the ip address to 192.168.11.1. With a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.  I've made sure that all firewalls / antivirus are turned off and I am connecting directly (i.e. not through a switch).

What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks,

David

ccie7599: I'll work on getting the TS Pro TS-x.xTGL/R5 TFTP Boot Recovery on the site today. I've never heard of that happening with a Terastation Pro, though... can you check the model number on the back for me?

dn1982: try hooking both devices up to the same switch. Which version LS Pro Duo do you have (how many USB ports)?

Another bonehead move on my part- using 1.5TB drives which per Buffalo Tech are not supported by the 1.04 Pro. They say that's why it wasn't properly going into EM mode (although I can still PING it which is somewhat confusing but probably just means that the Interface initializes on a lower level).

Oh well- off to FreeNAS- I think something homebuilt will probably outperform the Pro anyway- it's a good unit but so slowwwww.

Anyone want to buy a gently used Terastation Pro without any drives? :-)

: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image
: Colin137 January 29, 2009, 11:04:16 AM

Aha, the original TS Pro (TS-x.xTGL/R5) supported at max 500GB drives.

As far as your FreeNAS project, try to find a TS Pro II (TS-Hx.xTGL/R5) shell, since it has a faster processor and an ARM architecture.

: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image

I have the latest version with two USB ports.  To cut a long story short, I installed V1 firmare onto it rather than V3 (due to the wrong files being included in the TFTP package).  I'm now trying to TFTP the correct files so that I can install V3 firmware.

The issue I'm having is my pro duo is not receiving anything from TFTP.  I should add that I do not have any flashing red lights - is that why?

Many thanks for your help,

David

: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image
: dn1982 January 30, 2009, 10:43:25 AM

Just thought I would add a little more context.  The box is currently in EM mode.  I can probably reinstall the V1 firmware it could it back working.  However, I really want to install the V3 firmware - as that's what the box is.  From EM mode, the updator won't install V3, that's why I need to TFTP the new files across which will allow the Updator to recognise it as a V3.

Thanks!

David

The TFTP software for the LS Pro Duo is for the v1. Running the v1 firmware on a v3 box is not a good idea, since there are hardware differences between them. I've been working on a TFTP package for the v3 Pro Duo, I should have it up on the FTP site by Monday.
: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image
: dn1982 January 30, 2009, 01:32:57 PM

Thanks Colin.  I realise that now however I didn't realise that at the time I couldn't understand why the V3 updater failed.

Any ideas why the box isn't connecting to the TFTP server?  I've tried it directly and through a switch, making sure that firewall / antiviruses are disables.  Is there something I can do to further diagnose the problem, or another way to upgrade from the V1 firmware to V3?

The box is only 2-3 months old so I could call support if needed.

Many thanks,

David

Once the separate versions of the TFTP Boot Recovery software are up on the FTP site, try booting the device off the one appropriate for your version.

I'm in this pickle too with a TS Pro II 2GB. I run the TFTP utility and it connects. I then run the NasNavi util and it finds the TS.

Then I must flash the image, but I have no idea on how to do this.

There is a utility within the TFTP zip file, but when I run that, a cmd box opens and nothing happens.

It is connected to a PC running Vista 64, set to the correct IP (it DOES connect !)

Help me out please ? Thanks !

You need to flash the firmware which for your model landiepete would be here. You have to flash the firmware after getting the boot image loaded on.

Ok, it's sorted.

The Vista PC didn't want to connect to the TSPII. Well, the connection went ok, but as soon as I tried the updater i got an acp error. So I whipped up an XP box and all went well.

Thanks,

Peter

I had a similar problem with my pro 2 duo, with 2 usb drives (and two 500g drives).  I may or may not have had the v1 image installed but it was working for the image i was using for many months.  When my ls2 became responsive this was the place i came to and found a whole lot of good information.  I was able to do the tftp boot, using the sticky message at the top of this board, and i was able to flash the v3.09 image from the bufalo support site for the pro duo 2 with 2 usb ports, but now all the web langauge is in japanese, though i was able to see the status page indicating 1000gb of RAID*1 storage.  The * was a japanese unicode character that didn't look like a *.  Why would it be reporting 1000gb of RAID 1 storage when 1000gb in my case would be RAID 0?  This gives me some hope of recovery, although the share it is reporting is now empty!

is there another v3.09 image that comes in english?

: Re: TFTP MODE E06: Lost boot image
: Jason May 23, 2009, 01:57:17 PM

It defaults to Japanese during the installation most likely. This can, in most cases, be changed back quite easily.

Log into web admin.

Click on second top from the the top (the one below the one labeled "top")

Scroll to the bottom of this page and select "english" from the first pull down menu and "cp437" from the second, then hit the button on the bottom of the page

Close the browser

Wait about 30 seconds

Re-open the browser and try to log into the LS again and it should be in english

Hi

This article is great, I have replaced all of the disks in the station of terra but I cannot get the firmware back on.  I have the iSCSI version TS-RIGTL/R5.  Long story on how I got here, but needless to say, I have not got the original disks.

I can follow this and the NASNavi can see the unit - GREAT

However, when I come to put the correct firmware on (TS-IGL_101-116), TSUpdater does not see it.  I use the TSUpdater that came down with that firmware

Yet if I use the firmware TS-RHGLit can see the unti, and all works fine and I upload the firmware.  This only gives me NFS though, I need the iSCSI functionality back.

Can anyone help me ?

Thanks

You have the model TS-RIGTL and tried to put the firmware TS-IGL on to the device to no avail?  However, the TS-RHGL firmware works on the unit?  Sorry, I'm a bit confused could you please re-check and make sure you didn't typo the model or firmware revisions?  Reason being is if the firmware model revision doesn't match with the model itself it won't work.  Hence why you can't update the firmware of a TS Pro II to a TS III.  It quite simply will not work because the hardware is different to each model, this also includes hardware revisions.

Hi,

Some advice and then a question.

I recently has the E16 error. I removed the disk from the Linkstation had someone extract the data I required from the hard disk. He told me it looked like the partition was damaged.

Now I have the data I need from the disk I was hoping to put it back together and see if I could format the hard disk and get it working again.

I followed the steps above and the TFTP Boot and NAS Navigator register the device however when I try to update the firmware (which I assume is the next step) I got an error saying "Couldn't Confirm a response from HS-DHGL-EM9CF, please check a network address of both PC and HS-DHGL-EM9CF, Please disable the firewall if it is working on the PC. Update aborted."

I eventually managed to get this to work by removing the static IP address from the PC network settings and allowing it to set this automatically. (That is the advice). The firmware updater now finds the Linkstation and tries to update the firmware.

When I run the updater it tells me I need to format the drive as expected but when I try to run the format it comes back with an error "Failed to format (ACP_STATE_ERROR)". I take it that means it is game over for the hard drive?

Many thanks in advance.

Gordon

Hi All

First of all i wann say that this site is really good. As a complete noob i got alot of information for my second Hand Nas.

My System: I got a HS-DHTGL/R5 Nas with a 2GB Hard Disk in it. Its a new Disk. The NAS is connected to a Router with a RJ45 Cable. I dont know what Firmware i got on it because i dont know what the guy who had it before did with it.

My WKS: I got a win 7 64bit System. The Workstation is connected to a Router by a RJ45 cable and has a IP.

What i did. I read the FAQ`s and tried to make the procedure like explained in that Thread on the first page. I tried to get in to that "EM Mode" like explained here.

http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-1-of-5-EM-Mode-boot-procedures-please-read-this/td-p/11008

I did anything like they say there. I get the message that tells me "System EM Booting" and i release the "INIT" Button.

Then  it comes the next Point that sais

"After 120 seconds the NAS Navigator should not only find the unit, but the LCD display should show a link status (i.e. IP address, Hard Disk space used, etc)"

In my case it dont wait 120 seconds. i get after a few seconds the message telling me "Lost boot Image".

What i am doing wrong ?

Thanks for the Help

Hi Paul,

I have managed to get this far using your instructions - Thanks.

I got stuck, you have mention: "Once the NasNavi utility "sees" the Buffalo, you can start the firmware update."

My problem begins here, how do I start the firmware update?

I upgraded HDDs to 4x500GB, unit model is: TS-H1.0TGL/R5,

Buffalo NAS Navigator (v1.20) can see the unit but thats abut it.  I tried to use Setup > Browser Managment but it does not display anything, I dont have anything installed on this XP SP3 machine, its a clean isntall.  This setup goes throug a small switch nothing on it exept for the unit and PC, I tried to use https just in case, but no go either.  On the Buffalo NAS Navigator when I press the button "I'm here" its asking me for Administrators password?  Im not sure what passwort to enter here - or if I need to.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,

here is what I got:  TS-HTGL that needs updating wasn't found

I have TFTP Boot still open, thats what Buffalo booted form, and I have Buffalo NAS Navigator open (TFTP Boot Recovery TS-RHTGL-R5 1.30) - should I close them before running the TS-RTGL 1.33-1.31 ?

Unit and PC are on the same IP segment.  PC 192.168.11.1 Unit is on the defauld: 192.168.11.150  I can PING the 192.168.11.150 I have no AV, and my Windows FW is disabled and stoped.

that is a good question, ...  I have no idea.  What should I use if unit model is: TS-H1.0TGL/R5

I changed the PC, used the TFTP Boot Recovery TS-HTGL-R5 1.20 (and waited for good 5 min) and than I used TS-HTGL_1.33_1.31

I came back to life, but its in JAPANESE :)   is there any way I can change it? or this is F/W dependent if yes - which firware is in english, if you know.

You don`t need to change FW,

Try following these steps to change the device back to English:

  1. Connect to the web configuration utility by entering the TeraStation's IP address in a web browser.
  2. In the column of blue items on the left hand side, select the second link.
  3. Under the first header are two text fields; enter or modify the text in the second.
  4. Under the third header, the first entry is a radio selection with two options; select the one on the right.
  5. Under the fourth header (with two menu/pulldown boxes beneath it), set both menu boxes to the second entry in the list (the second menu box should say cp437).
  6. Click the button, and close and reopen the browser.

This is what I’m seeing when connected to Tera through web browser.

I assume your instructions are visible after initial login.

I’m trying the default user / password.  admin / password.  I even used the google translate to use Japanese fonts, but without luck.

Lost a hard drive and I'm trying to get our TS-H0.0TGL/R5 Terastation Pro rebuilt/past the TFTP Mode E06 Lost boot image error message.
I think its booting into EM mode after I press the reset button and power. But I'm not sure. Display says System EM mode booting but
it goes back to displaying the normal messages Server IP 192.168.11.1, Machine IP 192.168.11.150, and TFTP Mode E06 messages.

I've been most of the after noon going thru the many many posts that I thought had a solution to the problem. Even after

a. Install a network switch with only the workstation and TS connected.
b. connected the TS directly to the nic in the workstation with both straight and crossover cable.
c. Changed the workstation ip to 192.168.11.1.. Also tried 192.168.11.100 but network status seems to be happier with 11.1.

1. Using the latest version of the NAS Navigator nasnavi-256w and TFTP Boot Recovery TS-HTGL-R5 1.20
2. Booted Win7 pro 64bit to safemode.
3. Set Network security to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated
4. tweaked the nasupdater.ini to /force & debug

As mentioned in the forums I expected to see the config window for the updater after setting debug = 1. Config window it did not appear.
I just get the error message TS-HTGL that needs updating wasn't found.

One thing (only expected to see things connected from/to 192.168.x.x) I didn't expect..
netstat -an is coming up with a 169.254.112.98 address. Changed the workstation to a 196.xxx.xx.xxx address but did not see
any changes as far as connecting to the TS.

I purchased (qty 4) 2.0TB drives to replace the origional 750GB drives but find that this
TS may not be able to handle them.. till after the latest firmware update has been installed. I took the 2.0 TB drives out
and replaced them with (qty 2 ) 400GB to see if it made a difference. Nothing. Is it required all 4 connections must be made?

TS was purchased 5 or 6 years ago. Am I using the correct firmware.. The only firmware I've run across is
1.33_1.31, 1.33_1.32 & 1.35

I know that this subject has been discussed over and over but I'm at a loss as what to do next. Any help would be greatly
be appreciated.

Thanks.
