Kinda offtopic, but dd-wrt is currently in the works for this router. An alpha build is available as well.

Add me to the list of those waiting for 1.70. Any news?

I'm experiencing a lot of wireless disconnect problems on my laptops around the house with 1.65 and would certainly love to see if 1.70 fixes my problems.  Please get it to us ASAP.

Admins/mods, please respond as to when 1.70 will be available to EU customers. If next week, then I'm fine with that. If later, then my router is going back to the reseller. I hate to see my 30Mbit line downgraded to 8-16Mbit over this router.

Thanks for your understanding.

Come on guys, isn't there any news at all. We'd all rather hear at least an "I don't know" than stupifying silence.

I've been patiently waiting for firmware updates that fix the issues I've had since buying this router. It's the first time I've bought a buffalo product, so sitting around on this forum and wasting my valuable time waiting for paid employees to respond to customer concerns and questions certainly doesn't fill me full of confidence.

Am I the only one that doesn't have a problem with this router? file transfers etc work fine, never breaks no matter the size. Nor are there any wireless disconnect problems, it just works perfectly.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: peterp January 31, 2010, 03:34:56 PM

Aveyer: consider yourself lucky in this case ;) this router is far from any of the positive reviews I've read, that lead me to conclusion/decision to buy this box. I am running WZR-HP-G300NH Ver.1.66 (R1.16/B1.06), bought in Germany (maybe models sold in Germany are having troubles? :)

Experience: random wifi slowdown/disconnects, solved by power cycling the router; random slowdown/disconnects even on cable; I've given up on bittorrent feature (did not work at all from the start). Other than that the box is fine, but it does not perform it's primary tasks correctly.

For support staff: SN is 44047591101017. Is there any known batch with HW issues? As I've stated previously, I am inclined to return this unit (and do not care if it may be replaced or not, since I just want it to WORK and having it bought from abroad (no seller in Czech Republic), this would incur additional costs).

Anything in the logs when wifi disconnects etc? and what client equipment and adapters are you using, try changing the wireless channel too.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: peterp February 01, 2010, 01:55:04 AM

No weirdness in logs (mainly due to the fact that I have to power cycle the router). I've tried most of bands/channels combinations, no change. And the client is either Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (Toshiba laptop) or 2.4 GHz early 2009 MacBook Pro. For example multi-threaded download from ftps server just dies after a few transferred MBytes on both clients and I have to power cycle the router to get wifi back again. WRT610N is already on its way.

Buffalo tech has the worst online support behind Asus. There is well over 25 bugfixes in version 1.70, yet we have heard nothing on a US version. I can't wait to put dd-wrt on mine. This is a joke.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: Aveyer February 02, 2010, 11:32:34 AM

version 1.71 seems to be up on the EU site.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: peterp February 02, 2010, 12:12:02 PM

nice one Aveyer. any idea how to use .enc file? is that just the firmware, that's supposed to be uploaded to the router?

btw got wrt610n today, just hooked it up, ran the provided CD (which I rarely do, being in IT for the past 12 years, I know WHAT can get onto such CDs :-D )

and voila, here I am, downloading full line speed, being 2 doors and 15 meters away from the router.

curious, if I should update the firmware on buffalo and sell it locally (if 1.71 fixes things), or if I should just not bother and return it ASAP.

what would you do?

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: Aveyer February 02, 2010, 12:27:19 PM

Just updated to v1.71 without problem, they appear to have added WDS, 3G USB modem support and ECO settings (a schedule to sleep the router at the set time). Just upload the .enc to the router through the update page(with an ethernet connection, never wirelessly). Only use the EU firmware if you got it in the EU, you'll have to wait for the firmware on the US site if bought in the US.

went through upgrade, had actually problems connecting back again (wireless timed out), so I re-configured AP via quick wizards. I am back online now, but... none of the issues I've had is fixed. Sorry to say this, maybe I've got faulty unit, but it's going back. So much for Buffalo brand :(

Thanks for your support though and enjoy this otherwise lovely unit :)

Worry no more, dd-wrt is here.

Edited by Admin - It's OK to discuss DD-WRT - but do not post links to it, as there are many novices reading these forums, who might try it, make one mistake, and brick their units.

Has anyone tried to update the firmware with the dd-wrt .bin version using the web interface in windows?  I have tried and had no success.

: Slax February 07, 2010, 12:40:44 AM

You can't do a dd-wrt upgrade like that on wzr. You have to boot into ubuntu (use a live cd), install tftp and then send the dd-wrt to the router. Read the wiki link posted above.

Why was v1.71 taken down and now v1.66 is up?

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: Gingernut February 10, 2010, 01:45:41 PM

Yea, I saw it too but couldn't get the router to accept it giving back an invalid image warning and rebooting.

I thought it might have something to do with the 1.71 firmware so I downgraded to 1.65 and tried again but no go.

So there seems to be something wrong with the new firmware image that Buffalo have put up.

So why do you think we've gone from 1.65 to 1.71 then back to 1.66? and there is said to be a 1.80 alpha floating around also.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: Aveyer February 10, 2010, 01:49:08 PM

I don't know but I'm staying on v1.71, no problems and obviously a newer version.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: dregert February 11, 2010, 10:13:15 AM

I’m having a strange problem with version 1.71.
When I plug my USB HD (250Gb formatted as XFS) the wireless speed goes down to less than 50Kbps (make it impossible to use) it is very strange, and in the moment that I unplug the HD everything is back to normal.

Anyone does have a similar problem?
Daniel

I just tried my 1TB USB drive (FAT32) to check, no problems with wireless here.

No, you're not the only one.  Mine works very well (fortunately, FW 1.65 was available for me to upgrade at purchase time).

A new firmware however, might bring some added features useful to me, and may ease the clunkiness of the UI, which is definitely not for newbies.  I'd also love to see port-forwarding being available in both directions --last I knew, it was only one-way.

I have uploaded 1.71 because Buffalo for some reason keeps taking it down.

Please stop posting links to 1.71. We will post 1.72 or 1.74 soon.

Since I bought my WZR-HP-G300NH, I've constantly had to reboot it every few days. Some of the issues I encountered were: compatibility with certain network cards, dhcp server freezing, dropping wireless clients, etc... I installed the supposed firmware 1.71 uploaded by the previous poster and everything seems to be going ok so far. My router now reports as WZR-HP-G300NH Ver.1.71 (R1.15/B1.03). I haven't noticed anything too different in the GUI so far. I'll post back on Sunday evening to let you guys know how it's holding up.

Edit (10 days later): The router is 95% stable now, I've only had to reboot it once since I updated it and no clients have lost connection yet. It's a big step in the right direction, just enough to make the router useable on a day-to-day basis.

Nope mine works great. Got it last August, had no problems, have updated to 1.65, again runs great will probably put 1.71 on this weekend.  Run 2 wired & 3 wireless computers plus 2 network printers, everything works as advertised.

Mine seems to work fine, apart from some minor problems (disk not powering down and transfer rate a bit slow).

I have the same annoiing reboot problem. The router restarts many times a day. Sometimes it makes a full reset with deletinng the config  Is it true that the firmware 1.71  is fixing this bug?

I got the EU Version bought in Germany. @ FW 1.66 3G

What are you doing on the connection when the router reboots, bittorrenting or just simple browsing? more details please.

simple browsing  and sometimes torrent over wlan.

Do you know how many connections are open on bittorrent? If using uTorrent it will say # connections - under help>show statistics.

not many only 25 to 40 udp connections the wlan is connected over a intel wifi link 5100 @ 20 MHz 130 MBs. I Have installed the newest Intel Drivers.

I'm running v1.66 right now, tested a torrent last night and there were around 110 connections and no problem, I was connected via Ethernet. I might test over wireless later.

: Re: WZR-HP-G300NH Firmware 1.70
: Aveyer February 19, 2010, 04:31:23 PM

I tested over wireless with a WLI-UC-G300HP adapter, associated at 130mbps, uTorrent running with 190 connections, working perfectly for me.

Edit: Done some brutal testing with IxChariot, I've tested over 2000 pairs( connections) over WAN/LAN/WLAN and I haven't been able to crash it.

Is the firmaware version 1.74 one that based on DD-WRT?

the one that has been announced in March?  http://www.buffalotech.com/press/releases/buffalo-and-dd-wrt-collaborate-to-create-the-most-comprehensive-consumer-and-small-business-wireless-offering/
