I got my WZR-HP-G300NH two days ago and I'm still having problem connecting to the router's VPN server outside of my home.

at home, I am able to connect to the internet using the router and link it to my other existing Buffalo routers with no problem but the VPN just won't let me log in when I tried connecting it from work.

I tried connecting to the VPN server at home using the local area network (duh), it connected but it wouldn't grant me any internet access and i don't know if that's considered normal or what...

I didn't mess around with the VPN setting so basically i just setup the VPN user account and enter the dhcp range and that was it... did i miss something or maybe there's something else needed to be changed at the security section? are ipv6 pass through and pppoe path through needed to enable? (they are currently disable) what are they for anyway?

my wzr-hp-g300nh is connected directly to the modem and the pc is directly connected to this router.  other routers' dhcp server function are disable. any idea what went wrong??  thanks in advance guys

forgot to mention the error message... the windows gave me an "error800" and when i chose PPTP instead of auto for the connection type it becomes "error808"

I have not set up VPN with this modem yet so I could not tell the problem. But you may refer to the following webpage to see whether there is any difference in setting http://support.hornington.com/kb/question.php?ID=537

Do you have cable or DSL?  Post the first two numbers of your WAN IP.  PM me with the full one if you don't mind.

dolpli: That's how I set up my VPN; and I'm quite sure my modem/network/router was detected when i tried accessing the VPN from the outside but it just wouldn't grant the access (error 800 and 808)

PCPiranha: DSL.  I do not have access to my computer until the weekend so I don't know what the current IP is (someone tried helping me to configure the settings via web interface but it seemed like they screwed it up and now i've completely lost any access to my home network) 

Do you mind telling me how may the IP info help my situation?

I don't believe it has anything to do with my PC at home or other devices/extra routers that are hooked to the G300NH since the connection should go and handle directly by the G300NH itelf; other devices shouldn't even recognize the request anyway... no?

could it be the DMZ setting?? because I've set my home pc to DMZ...

by the way I'm running Vista on my laptop

FallenC, DO NOT put your PC's IP into the DMZ. You are basically leaving your entire PC open for attack!

I believe that you could be double natting.  Have you bridged your modem and set your router up for a PPPOE connection?  If not that is why you are having issues.  Your modem is also acting as a firewall/router.  This would also mean you are probably getting slower internet.

davo: I set my pc to DMZ is because it practically doesn't do any P2P download when it's not in the DMZ mode... I don't know why, it could be because of my old router (WBR2-G54)... maybe I will try it again with the G300NH and see how'd it go... thanks for ur advice though

PCPiranha: this is the current setup of my routers: a WBR2-G54 is directly linked to the G300NH using a cable (G300NH's wireless signal is disabled); the WBR2-G54's is set to acquire a WAN ip automatically and it is wirelessly bridged to a WHR-HP-G54 that's in AP mode. 

The only router that establishes internet connection is the G300H using PPPoE, and it is the only router that has the DHCP function enable.

I know the connection between routers is fine because I was able to play my game console online and my console is hooked up with the WHR-HP-G54 and I was also able to go online wirelessly using my laptop...

I'm not sure if the NAT is still on on the WBR2-G54 but the connection seems fine otherwise...

Any idea?? or actually do u know what causes error800 or error808 in VPN?

modem == WZR-HP-G300NH =(wired)= WBR2-G54 =(WDS)= WHR-HP-G54

...so either your double natting, or the pc in the DMZ is messing with it, or your ISP is blocking the PPTP port

hmm... then maybe I should first try forwarding the PPTP port back to the G300NH, then take my PC off the DMZ mode if it didn't do anything... will report back

finally got it working....

cannot exactly tell you how i did it since they first thing i did when i got home was to reset the router to the factory default.... 

however, if i remember correctly, i did everything the same except this time i chose the ip to be within the "pptp ip range" option instead of the "assign from dhcp" option.

and no DMZ this time
