WZR-HP-G300NH NAS problem

I'm using a 320GB external drive formatted in FAT32 plugged in through USB on the aforementioned router and it's not detecting it.

The router itself is great everything works very well for what I need, but the NAS function isn't seeming to be so cooperative.

I've followed the instructions in the pdf manual for this unit and configured everything properly (according to the manual) but I still don't see it show up

in the list, just "No recognizable disks found".  Since this 320GB external drive is small.. it has no power cord on it.. just a dual USB cable. When I plug

it into the router the light comes on telling me it's connected and I can hear the disk spin a few times.. but I can never get it to show up on in the

webconfig.   Thanks

Re: WZR-HP-G300NH NAS problem

a dual usb cable usually means a product (your ext HDD) can't get enough power from a single USB port and has to tap into 2 ports to have enough power to boot up and stay on.

Re: WZR-HP-G300NH NAS problem

So does this mean I'll have to get a powered usb hub for it to work? I've been using just the one usb plug ever since I got it and its been working fine... although it was on a pc and a ps3. Thanks for your reply.

No, I was just offering a suggestion for one possible issue. What is the model of your HDD? I'll look it up and see how power-hungry it is on the port side.

Re: WZR-HP-G300NH NAS problem

Sorry for the double post, I can't seem to edit last post on my droid. I don't have the model of it, but its located at http://www.simpletech.com/content/signature-mini-black-cherry-320-gb. Thanks again.

Re: WZR-HP-G300NH NAS problem

We have those Y-cables on some of our 2.5" portable drives as well. Not all products are perfectly matched for Current, and it looks like the Mini Black Cherry and the WZR-HP-G300NH (or at least these individual models) are not matched. I'm checking on whether a USB powered hub can be used with the WZR.

Ahh, that's what I was thinking. Hopefully I'll be able to use a powered hub with it. Thanks again for your help and effort in advance. :)

Re: WZR-HP-G300NH NAS problem

Any update on this? I don't have a powered hub available to use with it and I'd have no use for one otherwise. If anyone has any input on this let me know :)

I'm still checking on whether this would work  with a powered usb hub.
