normal, you always get a decreased transfer rate on a wireless connection compared to a wired one.

Details please - need FW revision, how your network is set up, what your client card is, etc.

Always backup important data to multiple devices/locations. Storing data in one device IS NOT A BACKUP!

We still need to know your router's firmware version.

Re: WHR-G300N doesn't reach ideal speed

And curious also, what is "your" ideal speed that it is not reaching?

Re: WHR-G300N doesn't reach ideal speed

If 90Mbps is your ideal speed, then no, the unit you have will not reach 90Mbps on wireless, wired yes, but not wireless. And you are going to be limited having the 10/100 ports alone (yes the switch matters even in wireless, because the switch moves the data)

Buddee is correct, you need a router with a gigbit switch. The WZR-HP-AG300H or the WZR-HP-G300NH has this. With the current router you have now at max it will probably support the 90Mbps wired but once you send it over wireless it will reduce that even further. Also if you are only showing a 50Mbps connection wirelessly then you need to make sure that your wireless settings are set to NG-Mixed, 40Mhz with WPA/PSk-Mixed mode with TKIP+AES. Once you do this your pc should show the status as around 250-300Mbps depending on the quality of your network adapter.
