Is Buffalo 54G router compatible with wireless USB adaptors of different make ?

Is Buffalo 54G router compatible with wireless USB adaptors of different make ? I bought a Buffalo wireless 54G ADSL+Router and tried setting it up with a Belkin wireless USB adaptor (I purchase the Belkin adaptor as Buffalo was not available and the shop keeper said that the router is compatible with all adopters). When the installation was done, the connection was getting disconnected and the pop up that showed up stated that "The connection is disconnected as the end device is not a buffalo product". So, is the Buffalo router only compatible with Buffalo adaptors ? Appreciate help to sort out this one.

Re: Is Buffalo 54G router compatible with wireless USB adaptors of different make ?

Hi Ponz,

The Buffalo is definitely compatible. Both companies are memebers of the wi-fi alliance. It sounds like a software conflict or issue. I have successfully used Belkin USB adapters, Linksys USB, Dlink pci cards, even ancient Cisco B cards, (the first wi-fi pci cards known to man), etc with Buffalo routers and Buffalo USB stuff on the other companies routers.

That said, I am not a fan of the software wi-fi connection apps that any of the companies use, rather, I just load drivers and use the Windows embedded wi-fi utility.

So, in short, I do not believe compatibility is the issue but more of a software conflct.

One question though, which model are you using? Is it a US device?

Good Luck!
