Slow speed, long latency on LS_CH500L

I am using a new LS-CH500L linkstation. For some actions, the latency seems long.

I have been putting my large Quicken file on it so it is accessable from either of 2 PCs.  When I enter transactions, it takes about 15 secs for the transaction to be entered, ready for the next one. I see network activity leaving/arriving at my pc at this time. I think Quicken is recalculating some things when this transaction is entered.

With the quicken file located on the hard drive of my PC ( XP pro) , this transaction is completed in about 2 secs.

I had been sharing this quicken file using DLINK's Shareport utility, which is a USB hard drive plugged into the back of my DLINK DIR 655 router. The router does some USB -to-Ethernet translation and make the drive available on the network.  Using a Quicken file stored on this USB drive, the transations take about 5 secs.

I expected the PC to be the fastest, but the Buffalo to be much faster than the Shareport.  I tried jumbo frames but that made things slower. I have users and passwords set up. Media server enabled, but is seldom used.  No FTP or iTunes.

I would appreciate some advice on settings I can change to speed this up.  Thanks.

Re: Slow speed, long latency on LS_CH500L

I forgot to add that I am running firmware 1.02 that came on the machine a few weeks ago.  I have not yet loaded 1.06.

Re: Slow speed, long latency on LS_CH500L

I am having similar problems.  Using Microsoft Expression Web, operations that take 1-2 seconds with an internal hard drive, 3-4 seconds with an external USB drive can take up to a minute on the Buffalo.  Everything hard wired on a 100Mbps network.  What a disappointment.

Quickbooks disconnects if left unattended for more han a few minutes, creating data loss.

Disappointing.
