Linkstation LS-XL 1TB taking more than 5 hours for firmware update?

I plugged it in to the network via ethernet cable, waited until the blue light stopped blinking, then the first thing out of the box says firmware update. I think cool, this device goes out and looks, finds an update, tells you about it, that's great....only 5 hours later it STILL hasn't completed. They have an existing Buffalo NAS that is making loud noises and they/I am afraid it's about to die.

My end goal is to transfer all folders off of the existing device onto the new one. 15 minutes into the job and a brick wall has been built, any suggestions?

Re: Linkstation LS-XL 1TB taking more than 5 hours for firmware update?

I had the same thing last week after I got my LS-X1.0.

After 2 hours I tried another simoultaneous web brower session to connect to the NAS again and it worked fine. Showed the new firmware version.

So I just closed the one that was sat doing nothing. not had a problem since.

shut it down and started it back up. It still has the same firmware version number (1.55) but under firmware update, it says there are none available.

I'm trying to figure out how to back up a BUffalo HD-HLAN series from NAS to NAS. The only option for backing up the HD-HLAN is to USB, but the LS-XL does not have a USB port. Calling tech support right now, so far it's been 15 minutes on hold.....yay!

Spoke to tech support and there is no way to copy device to device since they are different models. That's crazy. So now i have to rely on Windows to transfer 150GB of info across the network. I'm sure nothing will fail...

In terms of the firmware update, while the web interface of the device does provide you the automatic updating option, if our servers are slow for whatever reason, you can always download the firmware file off of our website and run a manual firmware update.

Due to extreme differences in kernel versions between the two Linkstations you're using, the technician you spoke to was correct in that the only way to transfer between the two devices would be to use windows as an intermediary.
