I just got a LS-WVL and wanted to perform a firmware update because the current firware is not included, but it failed (ACP_STATE_FAILURE). Now the NAS is not booting anymore. It powers up, spins the hard-drives and after about 35 seconds it reboots and starts over again. I just learned that unfortunatly the LS-WVL has no way to perform a TFTP boot (http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-1-of-
That's basically all the information I got and I'd appriciate any help and suggestions.

First of all make sure you have a backup.
You can remove the disk(s) and attach them to a Linux PC or a Windows PC using UFS explorer.
Then you need to delete partitions 1 and 2 of the disk(s).
After installing the disk(s) back you can try a TFTP boot with this unofficial file:

Hopefully your data will survive, but don't risk anything.

Thanks for you reply. I just got the Link Station so fortunatly there is not much important data on there.
I also found the unofficial TFTP release, but from what I understand this release only works for firmware versions >1.4 - Since the update of the firmware failed with this strange error I guess I still have firmware version 1.37.
Also I dont get a connection - maybe I do something wrong. My setup is as follows: I start "TFTP Boot.exe" on my laptop (IP: 192.168.11.1, as recommended in some forums), after the "accepting requests..." message I power up the LS, but nothing happens. If I hold down the function button during power up the function LED blinks, but I still dont get a connection. Am I missing something?

I also tried this: http://download.discountnetz.com/tftp-boot-recover
The IP adress during power up of the link station seems to be 192.168.11.11, which is wierd because I haven't read anything about this adress so far. Also I connected my laptop to the linkstation with an ethernet cable and cofigured my laptop to 192.168.11.1, but I still don't get a connection to the TFTP tool.

What happens is that the firmware is not properly loaded but is not completely corrupt, so the LS ends in a crashed state.
Try to delete the partitions of both disks.
After reading this you will feel confident it is possible to recover your LS.
