I have a LS-QL/ R5 and I"m trying to update to the latest firmware. I've downloaded the newest updater, but it fails to find the Linkstation, saying ""linkstation that needs updating wasn't found." I've tried this on a Mac (OS 10.6.8) and a PC (Win XP), with the firewall turned off, both connected over a switch and directly connected. I'm able to connect to the web interface or the storage shares, just the updated won't find the Linkstation.
Any help with this situation would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Paul

Are you using tftp correctly?
What does the unit come up in nasnavigator?
Is there a red flashing led?
Are you using pre-formatted drives?

Hi, thanks for responding.
My answers are:
Are you using tftp correctly?
I'm not using tftp at all, that I'm aware of. I honestly don't know what it is. I'm using the updater application available from Buffalo.
What does the unit come up in nasnavigator?
It comes up as:
Name: MONKEYPILE
Product: LS-QL/R5 Series
Workgroup: WORKGROUP
IP Address; 192.168.1.25
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Is there a red flashing led?
No.
Are you using pre-formatted drives?
No.
Thanks again!

Hi, I'm just bumping this back up to the top. Anyone have any idea of why the firmware updater won't find my linkstation?

Hi there,
I know that this thread is a bit older, but I got my LS-QL8.0/R5 last week (with Firmware 1.11) and I'm having exactly the same problems with updating the Firmware.
Where do I unlock authorization?
Hope someone is still reading...
