HS500U2 Utility disc
« on: May 19, 2012, 10:21:52 AM »

I've lost my installation disc some time ago and recently, I acquired a new laptop and wanted to install the Buffalo utlity to enable it to access my HS500U2. I went to Buffalo download page where it asks me to provide model number and serial number. I selected HS500u2 from the pulldown manual (as displayed on a white sticker at the back of my device) and typed in the 14 digit serial number starting with 1558 and ending with 751 and a square bracketed "G". I tried the serial number with and without the G and on both occassions, the serial number is tested as invalid. As both the model number and serial number are read straight from the white label on my drive, I'm not sure what I've done wrong.

I read from another thread the serial number is region specific. I'm in Hong Kong so I logged onto the Hong Kong site where the closest model I was able to find is under External HDD - HS1U2 series (mine is a HS500U2). The serial number is still not correct :(
