BuffaloNas.com just not working (from external PCs) for me
« on: February 18, 2012, 11:38:19 PM »

I've followed, unfollowed, and refollowed the setup instructions for web access until I'm blue in the face.  I tried to hard I almost bricked my router.  I cannot, for the live of me, connect to my NAS drive (via IP address OR BuffaloNas) from computer outside my network.

I have a LinkSys WRT54GL and a Buffalo LinkStation Live 2TB.  I think my problem may be that I'm not sure what PORT FORWARDING or "opening" a port is.  I'm a network idiot.

I do, however, have BOTH ports 9000 and 35077 (what the linkstation software says is my "external port," with UPnP enabled) set, in the Linksys' Applications & Gaming > Port Range Forward screen for application NAS, start/end, protocol=both, address = 101 (the IP of my NAS drive) and ENABLED = on.

Do I have to turn off the router's firewall?  Do I *HAVE TO* have a static IP for my router (because I'm on Comcast, and really don't want to pay).

What am I missing, please?

Are you able to access to your share folders using Web Access within your local network?

Ok...some screen shots showing your web access configuration and your router port forwarding configuration might help us.......

I don't know how to get a local image/screen shot into a message on this board.

NAS address = 192.168.1.101.  My IP with Comcast is dynamic.

Webaccess service

Volume "Share" has attributes of Read & Write, and its Webaccess settings are "Use inherited..."

WebAccess service = enabled

HTTPS = disabled

Use BuffaloNAS = enabled

DNS Hostname = blank

UPnP = enabled

External port = 35077

NAS Internal Port = 9000

Exclusive session = disabled

Expiration time = 30

On my Linksys WRT54GL admin page, I'm assuming that what I see (under Applications & Gaming) called "Port Range Forward" is where I set port forwarding.

My application name = NAS

Start = 9000

End = 9000

Protocol = Both

Ip address is 196.168.1.101

Enabled

     Same settings for port 35077

I also have the option to set "port triggering," on the linksys.  Do I need to?  It didn't seem to do anything...

Under the Administration > Management tab on the Linksys, Route Router access is disabled, and UPnP is ENabled.

What else do you need, to help me?

Thanks

Dude come on! If its working locally but not remotely then your router is not forwarding the port correctly!!
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Dude, come on!  Read my post.  I realize I may have port forwarding issues -- I asked for help in resolving them.

Internal and external ports on the NAS need to be 9000

On the modem leave the trigger blank

Remove the 30577 port forward

let me know how you get on.

Sorry for the delay in updating this.

Did all recommended steps.  www.canyouseeme.org can see me at port 9000.

Buffalonas.com , however, still cannot connect to me.

I do NOT have a static IP address from Comcast.  Does that matter?

This is extremely frustrating.  I'm following directions, but am still not able to access my Linkstation from outside, so I can't share anything on it!

From my experience, if you have the port forwarding set up per the recommendations, then the next thing to figure outis how to pass your public IP address from comcast's gateway to your router.  For most typical Internet providers with gateways, the private ip doesn't go to the router. so the buffalonas.com search doesn't ever get to your router to forward to the nas.

Ok I was following this thread as I am in the exact same situation, but the talk became private and I don'tknow how the issue was resolved.  Any help?  Can't access my NAS via webaccess. forwading issue perhaps, but what should I put in Internal and external port?
