Buffalo NAS WebAccess from within LAN problem
« on: February 18, 2012, 01:26:05 AM »

I have been climbing through this board off and on for about a month but I have been unable to resolve my issue.  I will be grateful for any help that I can get.

I have a Linkstation LS-CH1.0TL-V2 with ver. 1.56 firmware.   I am trying to set up the WebAccess but I can’t even get to it from INSIDE my LAN.  I can access the linkstation web settings and I have mapped a drive, so using it as a hard drive on my network certainly works.   Here are the current settings on the WebAccess page:

WebAccess Service: Enabled

HTTPS/SSL Encryption: Enabled

Use BuffaloNAS.com: Enabled

BuffaloNAS.com Name: GenericName

BuffaloNAS.com Key:  XXXXXXXXXXXX

DNS Hostname: -

Auto-Configure Firewall (UPnP): Disabled

External Port: 9000

NAS Internal Port: 9000

Exclusive session: Disabled

Session expiration time (minute): Disabled

WebAccess URL:  http://buffalonas.com/ GenericName /

I have a D-Link DI-524 router.  I have set up port forwarding on it via the ‘Virtual Server’ settings. Checking port 9000 with CanYouSeeMe.org shows that it is open.  I also have an Ooma Telo between the router and the modem and that may be an issue with accessing WebAccess from outside my LAN but first I need to get over the hump of being able to access it from within my LAN.

I have a static ip address for the linkstation (192.168.1.200) and trying to access the WebAccess through a web browser using the address http://192.168.1.200:9000 gets me an “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” message.  Essentially, it can’t find it.

Running the program Nmap to scan 192.168.1.200 does not show port 9000 to be open.

Can anyone offer some direction?

Thank you.

What I noticed in your post that you enabled https protocol... Use the following within your network from a pc connected to your LAN

https://ip_address:9000

If this works then look into your router if you have successfully forwarded port 9000 to your nas internal ip address.

It's likely that your Router does not allow port 9000 to pass through. Check your Router to make sure that it DOES allow the port be forwarded properly to your NAS's Static IP

I use Dyndns as a pointer to my NAS at home. Works perfect.

Also, try with Firefox browser to see if the problem still there

duke,

I have tried https://ip_address:9000 (the ip_address being the modem address) and it does not work.  I have tried https://192.168.1.200:9000 trying to connect within my LAN and it also doesn’t work.

jamesnb,

Here is what I have tried to see if the port is open: as I stated previously I checked to see if the port was open using the web site CanYouSeeMe.org and it was successful.  I then change the WebAccess internal and external port number to 9001 and tried CanYouSeeMe.org again (still testing for port 9000) and it failed.  This would seem to suggest to me that port forwarding is working - at least from outside the LAN.  I like the idea of using Dyndns, but right now I am just trying to get this to work on the LAN side.

Thanks for your input…keep it coming.

Daryl

Can you try enabling UPnP... I believe I read in one of the forum posts saying that after enabling UPnP, for some reason unknown, Web Access started working...

Tried enabling UPnP.  Didn't help.

It would appear that I gave some misinformation.  I have tried so many things that I got myself messed up.  I stated that after successfully checking port 9000 with CanYouSeeMe.org that I changed the WebAccess internal and external port numbers to 9001 and the test with CanYouSeeMe.org (still checking with port 9000) failed.  This was wrong; port forwarding is working from my Ooma box (which is between the router and modem) but there is no evidence that it is getting past the router.

The thing is; I can access other ports through this router to the linkstation (like 9050) and reading the manual for the router I am led to believe that it is not blocking ANY ports on a call that is strictly on the LAN side.

The testing seems to suggest that the linkstation has not opened port 9000.  Not only am I not sure about this, but I don’t know what to do about it or what further test to do…which is why I am here.
