I used the web GUI, Maintenance -> Initialization, then the option to reset configuration to factory defaults. Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize there is an initialize button behind the drive door. Looks like the same behavior though with respect to the logs. I held the button down until the init sequence started, although at the end the logs were still intact.
It isn't a huge deal. I need to return the unit and wanted to completely restore it to its original state. There doesn't seem to be any security sensitive info in the logs, other than local machine names, IP addresses, etc.
